We stayed here in June 2008. We saw the hotel last year and it looked very nice ......

I cannot understand how the reviews of this hotel rate it so highly.... were we staying in different place?

For the money we paid we expected a good hotel.

Prior to going away we had emailed the hotel with a simple request of a room with a balcony, preferably at the back and a higher floor for a little privacy as it was our anniversary. We got a reply stating this was no problem. What a shame that we arrived we ended up with a room with a small terrace directly in front of the pool which allowed everybody to see into the room and for me to have a view of the wrong end of some topless sunbathers - not nice!

After a bit of complaining , which we never do, we were given a room at the back - better we thought until we got inside and realise there was no balcony - just a small terrace which was the walkway for 5 other apartments. The room had a bed on a mezzanine level which was awful and was like sleeping in a tomb.

We asked the rep if there was another hotel on the island we could move to as this hotel was very disappointing - she told us there wasn't one of this standard. Neither myself nor my husband could actually see what the standard was - did a few toiletries and an IKEA lampshade make this a high standard?

The staff at the hotel eventually moved to us to a 'lower standard ' room. Well, this room had a fantastic balcony and view so I didnt care that it was 'lower standard', although I couldnt actually see the difference - except that it didnt have an IKEA lampshade.

One thing I would expect a hotel of this 'standard' to offer is a kettle in the room but no, just a very small boiling pot. Last year we stayed in the Aegean View Apartments in Santorini and, although half the price of the Bellonias, they had full kitchen facilities which included a kettle ...... oh and absolutely fantastic sea views.

It was impossible to get around the pool at the Bellonias or have a beach bed because unless you got up at 7am and put a towel down, there were none left. I did note that in the hotel's welcome book it states that the reserving of sunbeds etc is prohibited - really!

We asked about the free internet access that we had seen advertised - oh no this wasnt free.

The only good thing about this hotel was the breakfast and the lovely waiting staff who were very friendly and did a fantastic job.

Don't bother staying here.

My wife and i have just returned from santorini where we got married and enjoyed our honeymoon..We stayed at the bellonias last year as seen in my previous review and decided last year that we would be returning to the Bellonias for our honeymoon. I cannot fault this hotel or the staff,the service,food,politeness and overall attitude of the staff was amazing,nothing was too much trouble. It was so nice returning as there were so many familiar faces and we were so suprised to find a large bottle of champagne in our room on the evening of our wedding waiting for us from all of the staff at the hotel. The Bellonias may not be the cheapest hotel in kamari and there are very few bad gotels in the resort as a lot of our guests will testify to,but all i can say is that when you sit by the pool and people walk past on the front,everybody and i mean everybody stops to admire this hotel,pool area and cocktail bar. Its such a wonderful place to stay and if your budget can stretch a little please please please stay here,you will not be disappointed. Yes we did stay in the executive suite and then the honeymoon suite which is at the top end of the tariff but this does not affect the service one bit as last year we stayed in a standard twin at the rear of the hotel and received the same warm welcome and flawless service. The breakfasts are always well stocked with cereals,fruit,eggs,bacon,croissants etc etc and sitting on the beach front looking out across the sea with the sun shining high in the sky is only way to start your day on this magical island. We have been every year for the last 4years and each time we leave its like leaving an old friend behind,we have made so many friends over there and if you haven't been before you WILL fall in love with the island and its people,i promise you. My advice is to book directly with the hotel as there are not many tour operators that book package deals here and when they do they are quite expensive so contact them directly. Flight wise if you need to travel on any other day than a tuesday (first choice,thomas cook,thomson,monarch) or thursday(thomson only) then i would suggest flying Aegean who fly everyday from stanstead to athens with a connecting flight to santorini..its not direct but only adds about 2hrs journey time on to your overall journey which is nothing...
