We really enjoyed our stay at The Boathouse, even if it was just for one night. We arrived to Santorini by ferry and took two buses to the hotel in the town of Kamari. We had never been to the island, but the bus system was very self-explanatory and inexpensive, and the bus rides were a great way to see the island. Not only does the hotel have a beautiful pool, but it's located literally footsteps from a beautiful black-pebble beach, smack in the center of a thriving beach town lined with shops and tavernas. The moment you step into town, you know that you will have a great time there.

We had several great meals in Kamari, and took the requisite trip to the north side of the island to the famous town of Oia where all the Santorini postcard pictures with blue-roofed churches are taken (you need to take two buses to get there, but it's an easy trip and highly recommended).

The staff members at the hotel were all extremely friendly. They gave us great, honest recommendations, and even let us keep our bags in the lobby for a large portion of the day since our ferry to leave the island wasn't until midnight, but we had to check out by noon. We enjoyed staying in Kamari because it allowed us the relaxing beach vibe we prefer, while also letting us be a short distance from one of the most famous tourist spots in the world.

Another fabulous stay at the Boathouse! Diane, Spyros and family were so welcoming - felt like we had never left. We had a great room with quick access to the pool, which my girls loved. It was just as I remembered it -- such an amazing ambiance, with sound of the waves (It is right on the beach), the palm trees, the bougainvillea...The room was perfect: spotlessly clean with a super balcony looking out at the pool and beach. We loved it. It won’t be so long to come back next time!

We absolutely love this hotel. We came this year with my brother and his wife who have now fallen for Santorini and especially the boathouse just the same as we have. I have posted many reviews over the years on this fantastic little hotel and I can only say, it just gets better. Wonderful family and staff and the atmosphere is very relaxed...long leisurely breakfasts by the pool and long leisurely evenings by the pool bar.....I wish I could stay longer.....maybe, next year xxx

Room Tip: I prefer upstairs sea view but all rooms are good and rooms at the back are cheaper

If you are looking to take a young family to a beach hotel in a child friendly location on a budget – The Boathouse is a perfect choice for you.

When we visited there recently there were 2-3 large family groups who all made friends quickly. The kids were able to play together in the inflatable paddling pools beside the main pool. Older children were able to have pick up ball games and generally amuse themselves so that the parents could relax at the pleasant poolside bar. The photos on the site really are what you get so if you like the photos you won’t be disappointed when you get there.

The rooms at the front have terraces and overlook the pool and beach. This is ideal for the people in the larger groups and with families as they would only be disturbed by their own party. Other guests might be happier at the rear. The rooms at the rear are more utilitarian but at €60 we thought they were priced very fairly for a beach front hotel.

There have been a lot of comments about airplane noise at the hotel. As you will see from our attached photo there is nowhere in Kamari that is very far from the flight path but it is true The Boathouse is at the noisier end of the beach. Someone else will correct us but I seem to remember about 12 flights a day so you need to decide if that is acceptable to you.

Single travelers or couples staying at the hotel might be happier not staying around the pool. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent (about €5-8 for 2 people all day) all down the beach so you can pick a different location each day, often with waiter service from the nearest tavern. Our two favourite areas were:

- outside Irinis – a Kamari institution and part of its history since at least the early 1970’s – as both a business and in person with Mama Irini. It’s a must.
- Outside Prince – also a great place for lunch or dinner

The breakfast was pleasant enough but a little repetitive. Two blocks away there are a couple of bakeries around Johnny’s supermarket selling croissant and pain au chocolat the size of a large house brick and very tasty. So don’t get bored – fix it for a couple of Euros.

We didn’t have a lot of interaction with the staff but when we did they were responsive, helpful and very pleasant indeed.

I am in Santorini with my 14 year old son. We choose to at The Boat House randomly. We do not regret! The hotel has a perfect location at the beach. The staff is friendly, service minded and assist in giving good advices. The rooms are very nice, always clean and have a balcony. The pool area is very nice!

I can highly recommend The Boat House! We will definately return to this hotel next year!

As long as you're ok with being a little distance from Fira and Oia then you can't go wrong with The Boathouse Hotel. Friendly staff made check in a breeze even as we arrived 5 hours late due to ferries. A stone's throw from the beach in the suites and restaurants/markets on your doorstep put everything within reach - just be aware that this is a beach resort area and you'll have to hire a car to easily access other areas of the island. Parking is nearby and free though! The owners had plenty of recommendations to make the most of our 4 day stay and you can book most trips/experiences through the hotel itself!

Highly recommend.

Great place to stay!!! Rooms clean, breakfast tasty, great location on the beach, friendly family-run hotel. Diane, Spyros, Evie, Will, Kelly very helpful and kind. Close to bus stop for Thira but you can get a taxi for pick-up. Nice to have the pool for a change from the sea. Great value for your money!!!!
