“AMAZING!”
Reviewed 20 April 2009

I just got back from a trip to Greece with my Grad School roommate. We had been on Naxos and decided to go to Santorini for 2 nights. I can't say enough about The Boathouse!! We were the only people at the hotel the first night (it was still low season...the islands were pretty quiet). Because of this, Spryos gave us a bigger room at no extra cost! He was so welcoming and helpful. He both picked us up and dropped us off at the port; he even took the trouble to buy two little coupons (still not sure exactly what they were) for the ferry that he thought we might need! We had no idea he was going to; he just popped up next to us in line with them! The view from the hotel is amazing...pool and then across the narrow road is the beach/sea! There are many hotels along Kamari Beach, but The Boathouse seemed to be one of the most well-kept and updated. Santorini is of course beautiful, but our stay at The Boathouse really enhanced the experience; I wish I could go back tomorrow!

The reason I gave the room a '3' was because there was not a TV. Of course, we were out much of the day, but it's nice to come back at night to watch something before bed. I'm studying in Italy and do not get English stations, which is part of the reason I was a little disappointed.

If you are looking for serenity and peacefulness, this is the place to be. The hotel is clean and the service is excellent. It's conveniently located near the airport. You actually see planes land from your balcony.

Only complain I have is the bed is a bit hard and the pillows are flat.

Otherwise, this is a great hotel!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for almost a week in late August. We fortunately decided to stay in Kamari Beach, rather than Fira or Oia. It was a great decision because we were able to wake up every morning and lay out by the hotel's pool or the beach just across the street (I would recommend walking down the beach a bit rather than immediately in front of the hotel) and then take the awesome clean public transportation or rent a car to Fira/Oia. In doing so, we also avoided the crowds of cruise boats that dock into Fira/Oia on a daily basis and were close to Ancient Fira.

Kamari Beach had a resort town feel to it, nice and mellow in comparison to the busier areas (still all tourists, but mellow compared to where we had just come from - Paris, Chania, Heraklion).

The hotel was amazing. We were given a discounted rate as the owners expected that there would be construction going on during the day, but there wasn't any. All of the staff was extremely friendly.

The owner, Diane, was especially wonderful. She was fun to talk to while she manned the poolside bar in the evening and she was great in making recommendations for where to go (Santo Winery at sunset), arranging how to get there (she helped us rent a smart car to take into Oia for a day), and we really got the sense that she treats the guests as her personal guests. The poolside breakfast was also nice, complete with yummy Greek yogurt. We will definitely be going to Santorini again and staying at the Boathouse.

The bedrooms were also very clean. I notice that someone else was complaining about the beds. While I will not say they were the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, most of the beds in the 5 hotels that we stayed in while in Greece (2 hotels in Athens, 2 hotels on Crete) had the same beds, so keep that in mind.

  • Liked — absolutely great value - best place we stayed at and lowest price we paid on a 6 hotel trip
  • Disliked — the rooms were a little dark, but its better to be outside anyway :)

We stayed at The Boathouse for 3 weeks in August - the week before our wedding, the week of our wedding and the week after our wedding.

Diane and all of the team were amazing - especially when 25 of our friends and family kept descending on their pool bar!

Right from when we made our booking Diane was amazing and helped to keep us calm and on track with our wedding plans - she even booked a bus to get our guests to the ceremony!

We had our reception at Almira (the hotel's restaurant) and Christos and the team were so, so wonderful. They looked after us so well and we had to tell them to turn off the music and send everyone home, or else they would've let us dance 'til dawn! The food was beautiful and the table looked stunning and the next day Christos wouldn't let us pay until he made us sit down and drink a nice large beer!
Christos also calmed Kieran down on the day of the wedding when he was found pacing the streets of Kamari with nerves :0)

The rooms at the Boathouse were lovely - just simple Greek rooms and lovely for it, and they were cool and quiet and within easy reach of everything.

The pool area was lovely and felt private with it being at the quieter end of town.

The breakfast was great (but I defy you to find room for it after you've eaten at Almira the night before!), simple, healthy, fresh and with a wonderful fruit salad. Exactly what you need to set up up for a day exploring Fira and Oia.

We really can't fault anything and would recommend Diane and everyone without hestitation. We were made to feel like friends and nothing was too much trouble.

And the best thing about the hotel....??

Well they must sprinkle the beds with magic fairy dust because we made a little baby on our honeymoon and are due in May 2008!

We can't wait to take our baby back to show everyone and we've even asked Diane for her top choices for Greek baby names!

We'll never forget our time at The Boathouse

Being the low season (October) we got quite a good rate.

We were a little disappointed with the room. We had asked for double room and we were given a twin share (two singles). The room was clean but quite basic. The beds were pretty uncomfortable - it takes a lot to keep me up at night, especially after a few drinks, but these beds managed to.

The outdoor and pool area were quite nice and the staff were pleasant.

The breakfast was pretty disappointing - boiled eggs, bread (toast), butter, jams, cornflakes and a pretty lame fruit salad which I would suggest to steer clear of.

Location was pretty good - on the beach, just on the outskirts of the main strip but only a few minutes walk away.

This was the first trip to Greece for my sister and I - but not the last! While planning this trip, I was uncertain whether to stay in Fira, Oia or on the beach but made the right decision staying in Kamari. Everything we needed was within walking distance and we took the bus to Fira and Oia to shop and watch the sunset. The Boat House Hotel was perfect for our stay. Great location, wonderful staff that was very helpful. Almira resturant was the best on the island. We will visit again!
