I have just returned from staying in Fomithea Hotel self catering last week - firstly I would like to mentioned the location of the hotel is fabulous close to beach and shops no street noise . The Public areas in the hotel and the pool and bar kept immaculate condition and the breakfast looked nice lots of choice !

However our room was dark and noise from the bar ! My grandma mother and myself go away once a year all together and share a room we do a lot of self catering hotels and done a lot and Greece and this one of the most disanointing rooms we have had since I was a child.

We were given a ground floor room opposite the pool I am always a bit cautious about bein opposite the pool for noise but I had looked at the reviews before booking and not seen any past problems. On arrival we were shown to our room where my mum was immediately disappointed as the room was very dark and the bedroom kitchen all in one room ! the reading light above my bed didn't work ! my mums bed had not been made either so I went up to reception to report this and ask if there was any chance of moving room as didn't want to start the holiday on a low ! there was not another room which is was fair enough the hotel seemed busy ! the bed was made promptly and the light was not fixed the entire stay I did mention it again the next morning but after that didn't want to ask again as was a bit embarrassing.

The room is on top of the pool and right next to the bar which my pictures can show. There was no net curtain on the window which there was on the room one along which overlooked the pool so we couldn't open the curtain as there was people literally just outside the window when sitting in the room it was like being in a dark cave especially with one light down! You felt you couldn't sit on your balcony as everyone would be starting at your from the pool no privacy at all.

the first night we arrived after having a early flight from gatwick 6am and was tired the bar was open until 3am that night we felt people may as well joined you in the room you were that close to the bar ! we were super tired we went to TUI meeting next mornig and i mentiond this to the rep she assured us that the bar shuts at midnight and that just on check inn days it was open late with the later flights coming in - we did tell her about the room too which she seemed to listern and sort of agree about the position I had the felling someone had mentioned this before to her ! She said if we had small children it would be perfect as you could sit on the balacony and watch the children in the pool - which didnt resolve the problem as we didnt have any small children and also if i did have small children i dont think you would want noise from the bar area waking them up!

We dont stay in the room much as we enjoy exploring the local area there is a great excursion place down the road the trips are really good value much cheaper than the TUI excursions also he has a dog called Amerigo very cute !

Just like to say the bar only shut at midnight twice the other nights were around 1am sometimes bit later and then noise resumed at 8am from the pool with cleaning and guest starting to get sun beds so around 7 hours sleep if your lucky we don't really lie in but some people do go away for a rest!

we had a few other issues the third night we were getting ready to go out and the light above the mirror exploded it made my grandma jump as she was near the mirror at the time brushing her hair and luckily dint get cut by the glass ! we reported this to reception who didt aplogie but reposned i dont know what happend which was fair enough but aplogy would of been nice as it did shock my grandma - we think it it a dodgy fitting ! the bulb wasent changed for 2 nigts menaing the room was extra dark !

the kicthen was supoose to be self caterng now we were not looking on cooking a three course meal but it was beyond basic it says on the webiste fully equipped kicthen there was not even enough cutlery for us not 3 knifes no spatula no bottle open no tin opener or any utensils 3 folks 3 spoons 2 knifes 2 tea spoons 3 cups 3 plates 3 bowels 3 glasses a kettle and 2 hobs and a fridge 1 x frying pan. we would of liked a toaster and a cleaning cloth it would be nice to have these extra bits as if it self catering it should have the bits to help you cook !

The shower was just a tray with shower hose and was tiny ! everytime you showeed the floor was flooded because no curtain so had to hang floor matt outside !

the room was checked daily and bins emprty toilet roll cant fault the staff for cleaning as above !

The pictures on the website only show the new refurbishment rooms well you might as well been in a different hotel in the older style rooms nothing like the website ! we spoke to another family who were staying in an older style room and agreed with us and we all agreed the holiday wasn't cheap for self catering and wondered in the newer rooms are only if you included B&B and the older rooms are the self catering ones or its luck of the draw !

Overall I can say the room was dark with no privacy ! the bar is way to close I would hate to stay July and August ! the hotel need to put more bits in the kitchen for self catering guests and a net curtain on the balcony doors !

we enjoyed staying in santorini itself a beautiful island ! x

Room Tip: Dont choose ground room overlooking the pool ! A/C FREE :)

Dear Mrs Zoe, Thank you for your time to wright about your stay at Fomithea hotel.

About your room when you send us an email to request room with twin beds we ANSWER you that the only triple room with twin beds is a room in the ground floor next to the pool bar with pool view balcony and if you want we can give you room at first or second floor with one double and one single bed. Your ANSWER it was that you prefer the room on ground floor with twin beds.

In other email you asked about the renovated rooms you have see in our website. Our ANSWER it was that the renovated rooms we don't sell them to TUI and for this rooms you can book only direct with the hotel. The hotel inform you that TUI dosen't have renovated rooms and the type of room that you have booked through TUI is in their brochure so you knew that you have booked one of the older style rooms.

About the bar the first day cloesed at 00:00 o' clock and it wasn't noisy because we didn't have music on and in the bar it was only 2 clients. For all this week the bar cloesed between 23:30 and 00:00 o'clock.

About the light above your bed when you told us about the lamb we change it. For the lamb above the mirror it wasn't in our hand to not explored and when you inform us we change it.
About the self catering enquipment all the studios are fully enquipment. If someone wants to cook like his house he must book appartment and not a studio.

About the window curtains all the rooms they have and yours also.

We thank you again for your time to wright about your experience and we hope next time when you book a hotel through tour operator to check first the brochure to see what type of rooms they sell.

Kind regards,
Fomithea hotel

We spent a lovely 2 weeks at the Fomithea. Spotlessly clean, rooms cleaned everyday. This is a family run hotel and they take great pride in their business. ! Thankyou to Theonis , Savvas & especially Angeliki for looking after us. The bar prices are reasonable as are the pool bar snacks. The hotel is in a quite street just about 5 min walk down to the beach with its long flat promenade full of restaurants and bars. Supermarkets within easy reach. We hired a car for 5 days which gave us chance to do our own exploring. There is a good bus service from Kamari to Fira €1.80 each way. Fira & Oia are extremely busy but the views are spectacular ! There is a water taxi around the bay to Perissa that goes from just outside the Hook Bar in Kamari, so plenty of ways to get around. Nly downside to Santorini in our experience was the chaos at the airport on our return home !!!Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and I hope that they have a good season, they deserve it.
Many thanks to you all.

We have once again just returned after 3 weeks visiting the Fomithea for our 8th year. We now consider it to be our second home. This wonderful, hardworking family go the extra mile to make not only our holiday, but everyone who stays with them special Nothing is too much trouble for them. This family run hotel is a hidden gem in Kamari. We would never go anywhere else and cant wait to return next year.

Only got back home early this morning, had a great 10 nights in the fomithea hotel, great family run hotel, staff very friendly, who can't do enough for you (Savvas at the bar in particular!), great location, short walk to the beach, supermarket and outdoor cinema (amazing).

If we come back to Santorini, wouldn't stay anywhere else!
