“nice quiet hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed in this hotel with our friends for 7 days in june 2010.
It's tiny, private hotel.there were only us and 4 other people.Swimming pool was also small but nice.
Rooms were ok, we had self catering, but there is no point in using kitchen, this electric cooker didn't work as it should, it took us 20 min to boil water!!!!

It's nice place if you just need place to sleep.
It was perfect for us,we rented a car and were sighting-seeing most of the time.

'Golden Sun' has spacious, clean studios, with a nice pool, and is in a very quiet corner of Kamari. From them, it is a twenty minute walk into the centre of town - this makes for a good night's sleep, and a peaceful, quiet holiday. When we arrived at 'Golden Sun' however, there were no staff there to greet us, so I rang the owner, having been waiting for nothing for a good half-hour.......our holiday clock was ticking away ! When he arrived, there was no apology for this, and then we didn't see him again (not actually a bad thing !) for the rest of our week until it was time to leave - maybe he wanted a tip !! "Meet your customers upon their arrival" would have been my tip to him. The cleaning lady was very pleasant and thorough.
The island itself is beautiful - I went previously about 10 years ago, and always wanted to return. The photographs you see of the island hide no secrets - the views are breathtaking, villages are coulourful and well maintained, and the churches look beautiful. I would not hesitate going back a third time.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool in the direction of the town - Kamari. All are quiet, because of it's '...

This is a pleasant enough little complex. We booked an apartment - wanted separate room to kids, but found double and single bed in bedroom and single sofa bed in the kitchen / diner. Easily remedied though as we did a quick re-arrangement.

The apartment is very basic, but very clean and regularly kept so by a very good cleaner. We were on the ground floor, so no view to speak of, but a nice-enough outside area which we used to eat . Pool is excellent and never a problem getting a spec to lie and read while the kids played.

The downside of this place is that it is a good old distance from Kamari and the beach. It is a good 20-25 mins walk. Beds are not that comfortable, but acceptable. For the money, you couldn't ask for more.

For kids, Santorini isn't ideal. There's not much on offer for them save the beach and the pool. We were there for a wedding, otherwise we wouldn't have chosen it. If you need entertainment, go elsewhere because it ain't on offer at the Golden Sun, way too small. By the way, if you're looking for somewhere to get married, Santorini's Santo Winery is perfect.

My tip for Santorini would be to get a hire car. It was a god-send because the island is beautiful and to be able to explore it independently was great. For couples, Santorini is fantastic. I wouldn't stay any longer than a week though.

hi all. a group of 7 of us (2 couples and 3 singles) stayed at the golden sun. we had 3 one bedroomed apartments. the couples had requested double beds and that is exactly what they got. we had no idea what to expect with the other apartment as we needed 3 single beds with one of them in a seperate room as there was 2 girls and 1 guy. we found no reviews to help with this info but when we got to our apartment we were pleasantly surprised with a double and a single in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the sitting room/ kitchen which worked perfectly for us. the bathroom is basic but we had no problems with flooding as read in other reviews. the kitchen well equipped and we even got a kettle from the lady at he bar/reception. there was a table and 3 chairs for dining. a tv but we never used it. we were on the ground floor and had a huge terrace/balcony as did the guys in the other apartments with table and chairs also. furniture seemed to be quite new and beds were comfortable. pool area was beautiful and very quiet while we were there in may. the walk down to the shops, bars, restaurants and beach was the only thing that i wasnt too keen on but seeing as we are young and well able to walk it wasnt too bad for us but if you have young children or elderly people with you maybe this place isnt for you. it is roughly a fifteen to twenty minute walk and if you are carrying bottles of water it seems alot longer!!! the apartments were cleaned everyday and clean towels and bedding during the week too. cannot fault the apartments themselves or the people running them as they were very helpful with directions and anything we needed to know. some places we went out to eat in were very good like 'atmosphere' where we had a fabulous meal. i am a celiac so i have to eat a gluten free diet and was nervous about whether i would be understood when trying to order my meals but this caused no problems as they understand very well (i also had an eating out card from the coeliac society which explained in greek) and i never got sick once so i was very happy with that side of it. we also ate at the chinese in the square, no name restaurant, and a few others which i cant remember the names of. we spent between 25 and 30 euro each every night just for a starter, a main course and one or two drinks each so it isnt a cheap place to eat out in and it is more expensive now than it was 5 years ago when we were there. we got a selection of desserts free in every restaurant so that was nice. we also came across a new bar called the sky lounge looking out over the seafront. it is run by a young couple and is so beautifully decorated and furnished we loved it. it was just a shame we were the only people in there so if you are in kamari please go and see for yourself. we also went back to the hook bar where we spent a few drunken nights 5 years ago and enjoyed it there too. i hope if you are visiting kamari you have as good a time as we did and feel free to ask any questions. we would definitely stay at the golden sun again as it was great value for money and we found it very comfortable and had no disasters big or small :)

Arrived at our Apartments which had no reception area, just a pool side snack bar that was open for our key collection. This also seemed to open and close as they feel.Normally 1-7pm.Apartment was good with basic catering facilities although on arrival out toilet had no water to flush.Complained next day but to no avail so it was very much DIY to resolve the situation.Balcony views were excellent from our room No 36 overlloking the pool and views of over the town to the beach.Supermarket was about a 15 min walk and we found a bakery around 12 mins stroll which had everything fresh you could imagine.Apartments were cleaned almost daily and spacious! Transfer from the nearby Airport was only 5 mins and we had a private transfer which was good.Taxis are few and far between so dont be expecting to flag 1 down.Book in advance as there are only 37 Taxis on the island.

Our apartment was very clean and the staff kind and polite.
If you're looking for somewhere basic to stay this is it.
Bed not comfortable, but apart from that and only having 2 hobs to cook on was satisfactory. Wouldnt give it the 4 star standard it was awarded but certinaly 3.
Cleaned daily by very hardworking lady.
Pool very nice.
Quiet location, very peacful.
Not too far from Kamari beach and shops.
You should really hire a car or moped if you want to explore the island though.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at these apartments.
It was a family holiday combined with a friends wedding.
We found the rooms to be very spacious and clean. The kitchen was not very well equipped and certainly didnt have a coffee machine. Not enough glasses, plates, cups etc. The bathroom also clean, but beware when taking a shower it sprays everywhere.
The pool was good, maybe a little murky at times. We also found that after swimming our costumes and bikins turned yellow. We asked, who I guess was the owner, but he said he didnt know what had caused it and no-one else had ever mentioned it.
Other reviews have mentioned that it is a very long walk to the beach, restaurants and shops and IT IS. (especially with a baby of 5 months and a child of 3.
Overall we had a really good holiday, and I must praise the lady who seems to work non-stop cleaning rooms, washing towels emptying bins and washing down everything insight. She also changes the sheets every other day and the towels every day.
So when we tried to tip her at the end of our holiday, she refused to take any money.
There was someone there between 12 and 7 at the little bar/snack area, but the only food available was toasted sandwiches. Any combination of cheese, ham and tomato.
Ice creams or ice lollies would have been nice.
We had a great time as there was 9 of us and we had 3 rooms. The only problem we really had was on arrival one of the rooms wasnt ready and one of the rooms wasnt available until 2 days later. Which meant 2 people had to move into one room and then change after 2 days.
On the plus side it was hot and sunny and we all came home relaxed.

  • Liked — The cleanliness
  • Disliked — Too far to walk to shops
