From start to finish this place is fantastic. Rooms are kept very clean and tidy with daily maid service. Very well maintained gardens and above all very good food and a excellent variety. Absolutely no issues with sun beds no queues for drinks, well mannered and very polite staff at your service.
Our 4 year old daughter played in complete safety in the kids pool no hazards and good to know that lifeguards are at each of the 3 pools. The hotel is 90% Spanish and the rest made up of English and German. The beach is one of the best I have been to in Spain, the staircase to the beach is no problem. We didn't use the kids club as our daughter made friends with plenty of children around the pool area. We cannot think of one bad point about this hotel, the grill and the Italian were our favourite restaurants, either book in the morning at breakfast or for a later table after 9 at the reception. You only have to book the grill, Italian, and the Andalusia as they are smaller, this place reminded me of the Spain before the Brits abroad brigade got into Spain and wrecked parts of it. This is a very Spanish resort and the Spanish holiday here, if you want a Sunday roast, Karaoke and McDonalds don't go here. We loved it that much we have already booked for next year. The nights are cool so we didn't bother with the Air conditioning, the days were not as hot as we thought and speaking to local Spanish found out that's why the Spanish holiday there. Don't bother packing towels for the pool as they supply them along with free water at reception.

Just back from a week here with my wife, a four year old and a one year old. Overall, we had a pretty good time - the eldest child in particular loved it.

Good points:
- Rooms are kept very clean.
- Hotel grounds are impressive and tidy.
- Beach is fantastic (great body surfing in the late afternoon).
- Food quality is high and varied. The baked alaska dessert was especially good.
- Drinks are pretty good, especially the mojitos. If you want decent coffee, the bars do "proper" cups which were very welcome.
- The pirate ship slides are great.

Bad points:
- Kids Clubs for English speakers are non-existent. There's supposedly a non-German one but they pretty much catered exclusively for Spanish children.
- No "walk-in" Kids Club activities which we'd had at other Rius. Painting, puzzles, drawing etc that you can just go and do, especially when the heat is at a peak. The Kids Clubs are of the "drop-off", "collect x hours later" type, and the doors are locked in the meantime.
- Evening entertainment for the little ones: 30 minutes just isn't enough. Previous Rius have had an hour or two.
- Nothing much for tiny children apart from the fish pool, which isn't shaded. There's one slide in the playground which is in the shade (the others are exposed), and there are no indoor activities. Ours had to run around reception which isn't ideal obviously.
- If you're an early riser then everything is shifted latish, e.g. breakfast starts at 8:00.

Apart from that, useful tips:
- Family rooms don't have seaviews so be aware of this when you book. If you get shifted over near the roads then ask to be moved, we were relocated quickly to the 0400 block which was much better.
- The steps down to the beach are fine, but not pram-friendly obviously!
- The waves in the late afternoon are fierce!
- The wifi is in reception only and you only get 90 mins or so per day (in a continuous block), but it's fast.

Room Tip: If you are booking a "Family Room", be aware that none of these have sea views. You might...

From arrival to departure I cannot fault this hotel.
The grounds are immaculate, the staff are friendly, the food is amazing and our rooms were kept spotlessly clean.
We booked the hotel direct rather than through Thomson as it was much cheaper this way. We then flew with Ryan air (you can fly to Seville or Jerez).
Being all inclusive was a revelation to me as we had always stuck to half board previously - however we are all inclusive converts from now on!
Yes the hotel is not exclusively British and has other nationalities staying there - that is what attracted me to it. If you have a problem with that then you should possibly stay in England or go to the Costa del Sol. I read an article that said the Costa de la luz is where the Spanish middle classes choose to holiday and I would agree with this.
We had a hire car which meant that we could get out and about and explore the area a little, but there are buses, taxis and also a little train that picks up from the hotel and can take you on a variety of excursions.
I will definitely return to this hotel and I would certainly recommend Riu hotels. We had a really blissful time.

We have just returned from a week at the Riu chiclana andwe would absolutely not hesitate on going back there again. We are a family of 3 with a 6 year old daughter who thoroughly enjoyed the pools and beach, along with the mini disco. For people complaining about the lack of English speaking activities, perhaps you should go on holiday to blackpool rather than Spain. The local Spanish crowd are all friendly, the staff are great, food is amazing and the beach is one of the best I have been to in a long time!

There is a kids club which is specifically German (run by tui Germany) but there is also a kids club which welcomes kids from anywhere else..

We stayed in building 22, it had a slight sea view and was quiet.

Absolutely loved or holiday! Go along and enjoy it!

Great family hotel, lovely pools, awesome restaurants. We got a flight into Seville and drove from there, its about 1.5hrs, great main roads,(match German roads..on arrival we were greeted with a glass of orange each and told we could go and have lunch as room wasn't quite ready ( we were early) from then on everything was great, all inclusive food was varied and really good quality, we are vegetarian and there was good choice. Staff were very helpful and friendly. A lot of the guest were German and Spanish which was nice. I Would highly recommend 5 stars

My family and I chose this year to book a RIU Holiday ... Truly disappointed and will not use them again . Flight to Spain was fine, left LGW on time, we arrived at the hotel and was told our "family room" was the top of the complex .. away from everything and overlooking a car park was ready. I explained that we paid for the "upgrade" at home, which they said all families get a family room. I spoke with the manager who was not forth coming, It took over 2 hours to finally get my upgrade... But I got my upgrade! People who catch the later flights out of the resort can leave there rooms at 12 noon so if your on an earlier flight then you wait. ( not good with kids).

The Complex was greatly tendered to. Food was covered from all angles. Walking to the beach was short, and has plenty of steps to get you down there. No bar or drinking facilities. So bring a drink with you.

There are 4 separate pools, the baby pool with a fish, the kids pool with the dragon, boat, etc. Then you have two pools which are for "swimmers" as they start at 110cm height. They have one Jacuzzi pool attached to both "swimmers" pools and two loungers pools at the top pool. Personally I think they need a beach entry style as my daughter who is 5, got board playing in the kids pool and wanted to jump/bomb dive and practicing her swimming in the "swimmers" pools, but struggled to touch the bottom but wanted her own independence.

The daytime RIU Land Kids Club... Don't Bother.. Were British.. We were turned away from the staff as they put it, "you not Spanish, German, No ... you take her back to pool" English kids no. Other families we spoke to has the same refusal even ones with babies and they wanted to let the child play with mini toys and to stay with them. Horrible and rude.

The RuiLand Mini Club Disco .. Pointless. The staff play Spanish and German Songs, the kids can dance but the German and Spanish at the front .. of course! They have a Riu mascot called Calu he is a turtle (someone) dressed up. We saw him 1 evening out of the 7. We saw higher management arrive so we assume they pulled there fingers out ...Really poor, Iberostar, there mascot was there every evening and made appearances during the day. This was a really poor effort. Mini Club started at 8:30pm finished a 9pm then the evening show started at 10pm till 10:30pm... these were of a poor standard. I really believe they need to "up" there game.

We asked our rep about Markets which she mentioned two. One was a hand craft market at night from 8pm till 11:30, catch the no.8 bus from outside and go 4 stops. (walkable by beach but a good 40 min walk) over and hour by road. Bus never arrived so had to give up on that one. the other was in Chichlana ... Please don't bother, it was like seconds, a mash of total crap, no leather, or cotton clothing stalls like you would expect, it was appalling then returning back to Riu was fun, you catch the bus from the stop you got off at and go a longer route back..no choice. Took over an hour for that return trip. Waste of time and money...

If you wish to get out .. bus no.8 heading left.. there is a nice little shopping centre near the hand craft market. These shops start at 10:30/11am lovely boutiques if you are looking for cotton or leather goods, they do have the basic souvenir shop which holds everything, lovely coffee shops and lce cream parlours. Nice for a mornings adventure!

Transfer back to the airport was fine, if you had your own printed self check-in tickets ... use the fast lanes ... be prepared they are not fast, they have to re print your tickets the old style ones. They don't like the paper printed copy ones. Jerez Departure Lounge has a small duty free and a small snack bar... flight took off on time ... were back!

Room Tip: We as a British family tend to get the crappier rooms .. so we then have to fight to get an upgrade...
