“Getting a Little Tired”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

After giving Sea World rave reviews after my last visit in 2012 I would have to say the place is needs some refurbishment as it is looking a little tired here and there. Whilst the front of house areas and gardens still look nice we were surprised to find that:

The block out curtains in our room in the Bay Wing had holes in them, the carpets had stains and painted finishes were looking tired.

The carpets in the resorts passageways are also showing signs of advanced age and the lift also looked and sounded like it was in need of a refurb.
All in all we thought the original shine of the place that so impressed us during our last visit had lost it's gloss.
Still a great place to take the grandkids though.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and go for a room with a view of the pool or bay

We stayed for 5 nights mid March (2adults and a 3 yr old) using a cudo deal and absolutely loved this resort as a family friendly resort, unlimited access to Seaworld and the other parks was excellent as was the Dolphin show for guests.
Room was pretty standard for a hotel room our only complaint was we were in the Bay wing room 3091 and our balcony looked out to a car park so no real view needless to say we didn't use the Balcony, we figured this was because we were staying on a deal however just reading other reviews maybe that's not the case. We had our air con on the whole time with no noise problems at all and can't fault the room temperature. We only used the lobby bar once for cocktails but it was extremely slow, we went to the buffet dinner one night which was really good however is very very pricey and whilst good the cost is still to high for what you receive.
The pool area and spongebob playground again are fantastic for families with children likewise with the character meet and greets.
We truly had such a great holiday and would definitely look at staying again in the future.

I found the service was poor in the restaurant and bar areas, I found staff didn't seem to care either. When we ordered two drinks from the waterfall bar we were told they didn't have ouzo and made us walk to the restaurant bar in the lounge to get a drink, then return to get our G & T from the waterfall bar. The staff at the lounge bar said to tell the other bar staff in future to ring through and they would bring down a bottle, when told this the waterfall bar staff pooh poohed that idea. Our meal was late when having lunch in the lounge restaurant and when I questioned it and it was bought out, one meal wasn't what was ordered. All that was said by the waitress was that there was a communication break down with the kitchen, no apology was offered.I found the prices extremely expensive for the quality of the food. I ordered the risotto for dinner and it was so bland I didn't bother to eat it. I bought two paddle pops from the lounge area and was charged $3 each, outrageous as they are $1.20 at any local shop. The monorail car that the prams could fit in was broken on the day we arrived and we had to walk, the staff operating, weren't apologetic about that either (Sunday the 16th March 2014) one of the cars on the chairlift was broken and was zippy tied shut. Our room we were told had been recently refurbished but the cold water tap in the bathroom constantly dripped. We were in room 3026.

Room Tip: If you have children the rooms are small.

2 Adults + 2 Kids (7 & 5) + 1 Infant we choose a Deluxe Double Queen room which was located on the ground floor (Park Wing) overlooking the monorail and playground. The room was compact but suitable when most of our time was spent next door at Sea World or swimming in the pool which was an easy 1 min walk to everything! Only compliant about the room was the noise that came from inside the park either late in the evening from music or workers early in the morning using forklifts machinery etc. The room got very stuffy with 5 people with the door closed and no A/C on (it was too loud to have on all night).
The kids loved all the activities especially the SpongeBob splash bash at 8pm but coming from NSW Daylight saving time meant it was 9pm so the kids were utterly exhausted.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful and a big shout out to Jon in the Lobby Lounge he was fantastic, great energy and was a joy, even going beyond the call to find some birthday candles to place on our chocolate brownie for my little boy's birthday.
As per all the reviews here... food is the killer expense but if you come prepared you can get creative on how best to deal with it. We had our car so had the freedom to choose where to eat, if you do not have a car be prepared to pay more for food each day than your room rate.
The bar fridge in the room is small but we found it suitable for a 5 day stay even with a few beers + wine. (removing all the mini items)
One night we ate at Hatsuhana Teppanyaki (book in advance) as a family we all enjoyed the experience even the infant. Highly recommended.
WiFi is free but expect a slooow connection the best speed I could reach was 0.63Mbps download and you have to accept the terms and conditions every 12 hours.
For 4.5 days we spent 3.5 days going in & out of Sea World and 1 day at Wet N Wild + Movie World. The 3 park pass was excellent and having the freedom to come and go as you pleased was a huge plus. Highly recommend going to the introductory Dolphin show, not only is it informative but it allows you extra time to spend in the park before the official gates open avoiding the crowds and enjoying the calm before the Storm arrives (pun intended).

Overall we would certainly stay again 'if' another Cudo deal becomes available.
Keep up the great work SWR team!!

Room Tip: For close access into the park and amenities stay on the Park Wing side of the resort. Car Park unde...

Dear Dam375,
Thank you for sharing your experience about your recent trip up to our Resort. Thank you for mentioning Jon, he is a very valued team member and I will be sure to thank him personally for the service he provided during your stay. In regards to the free Wi-Fi, we have an average download speed of 1000kb per second, sorry that you experienced a slow speed. One can only presume that there were an exceptional number of guests using it at once. My apologies for this. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Resort next time.

Stayed for 6 nights in March 2014 with a cudo voucher deal. Resort is very good overall although the room we were in had a very dated bathroom, still had a shower over bath tub with curtain. Pool area is good, probably best for younger children not so great for teens although the big water slide in the resort water park is good as well.
The buffet breakfast was great and the other food options all fine. Staff very friendly and courteous and helpful with any issue.
Public transport access is shocking, long walk to closest bus stop. Seaworld monorail is a shorter option but only when park is open and it is a 20 minute wait sometimes for it to come.

Dear Flea3333,
Thank you for your feedback. It is good to hear that our team members looked after you whilst you were at the Resort. In regards to public transport we are situated on the Spit at Main Beach so the buses do not come as far as the Resort entrance unfortunately. The bus stop is 700m along the road from our main entrance if you are using public transport.

we stayed 2 nights and 3ish days at the resort and had a great stay. service was great allowing an early checkin into our room on day one at about 10am which was excellent to settle in before heading off to sea world. Room was tidy and comfortable. concierge was great for bags. The buffet is to expensive particularly on friday and saturday were they lay on the seafood but don't give a no seafood option. The do a good deal on meal for kids where they pay their age which i think is cool. Lobby bar breakfast doesn't start till 10am forcing you to use the buffet which is ok but more that what we needed. Also the pool bar shuts at 5pm and the life guards progressively shut off all the kids water park features way to early just as you are relaxing after a day in sea world. Pool bar and kids playing in the pool would be perfect way to end the day but it all shuts up.

Generally a really good place for the family and the deals with entry to sea world make it a no brainer. Japanese restaurant is very good onsite.

Wheelchair access was generally pretty good, and as we booked late i got by fine in a standard room.

Room Tip: Just be aware of limited food options. buffet is expensive.

Dear Quentin S,
Thank you for your comments and it is good to hear that your family enjoyed their holiday. In regards to the Shoreline buffet, it is themed differently every night and there is usually a wide selection of dishes to suit all tastes. If you would prefer we also have alternative dining options in our Lobby Bar and Hatsuhana our Japanese Restaurant.

Stayed here on a cudo voucher for a week. Great swimming pool for guests and fun how you can walk into seaworld anytime you like. The pool restaurant service was avg. We had dinner twice in the resort restaurant, probably would only eat there on a two for one voucher. The resort is very clean and the rooms although very clean, are slightly small for 4 adults. Loved our stay but be aware it's a drive to the main surfers paradise shops

Dear Leobrophy,
Thanks for your feedback. It's good to hear that you took advantage of our Cudo deal. Apologies for the lack of service you experienced at the Waterfall Cafe, I will discuss your comments with our Food and Beverage Manager. In regards to Surfers Paradise, we are actually located in Main Beach but do have the Marina Mirage shopping centre 700m along the road just past the Sea World main entrance. The bus stop is also located here to gain access to Surfers Paradise and beyond if you are using public transport to get around. We hope to welcome you back to our Resort in the future.
