“Lovely and cosy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2014

Had a great 2 night stay at the beginning of February. The staff are very friendly and helpful - Trudi especially. Cabin was super, lovely views- and had all the equipment you could need, though nothing in cupboards at all so bring everything except salt and pepper. Pillows not very substantial. Did see the Northern Lights on one night - amazing. Saw eagles but just missed a mother otter and her pups the morning we left. Hope to return sometime.

Room Tip: All cabins have a pretty good view!

These cabins are very warm and cosy. We stayed at the end of Jan 2014 when the outside temp was -7*C, and inside, we were warm as toast! The views from the decking are just amazing, and we were fortunate to see the northern lights every night! just surreal and stunning. I suspect there is a micro climate here, as my weather app on my phone listed Tromso as misty, but the skies were totally clear (and free of light pollution). Hanna and Andreas are helpful and friendly, and also loaned us a plug adapter. The cabins are not 5 star luxury but are very well equipped and comfortable. I would definitely come here again!

Room Tip: Cabin 6 probably has the best views of any approaching Northern Lights. There are no supermarkets n...

We stayed here in January 2014, very satisified with this lovely cabin.
- Very helpful during the whole reservation process
- Good view and lucky to see the Northern Lights
- Spacious cabin with everything you need
- Comfy beds and good shower

Just tips ...buy some food, including at least next day breakfast on the way to there, no grocery store around the place. You can cook at their well equiped kitchen.

We (4 of us) stayed at Lauklines over Christmas last year, in the middle of the polar night.

The cabins are very spacious, homely, well appointed and amazingly located, with backdoors that open onto a terrace that is, in fact, a pontoon on the lake.

The "mornings" of the polar night give a couple of hours of blue light (no yellows) which renders the lake and the island in front of the cabins in stark and stunning contrast. Just behind the cabins (and a little down the road) there are snow shoe trails to explore and just up from the cabins there is a satellite shop for Tromso Outdoor who will rent snowshoes and the like.

It's a fantastic location and very soul-enriching.

Undoubtedly a bit of a pain to go shopping, but there is a well appointed supermarket about 25-30 mins drive away. It's only that long because you have to drive slowly on the snow-ridden roads. A car is a definite must for this location, unless you are going to spend all your time on the water, of course.

A couple of curious things to note: the supermarkets don't seem to serve wine. They do have some beers, ciders and pear-ciders though. And apparently there is a law in Norway preventing alcohol sales after 20h00.

As soon as I saw this place I knew this is where I wanted to stay, and It absolutely lived up to every single expectation.

We arrived late in the evening, about 9.45pm after a 40minute drive (very straightforward) from Tromso airport. My hubby went in the front door but I sneaked around the back and had a few private moments with the Northern Lights RIGHT ABOVE OUR OWN PRIVATE DECK!!!!

That was just the beginning, my hubby, who had grumbled about the price (its not cheap) said immediately it was worth every single penny and apparently 'I did good'.

We booked originally based on tripadvisor reviews. The price was a bit of a hair-curler but the communication was prompt and friendly. Payment options were limited, in that you can not pay using Paypal and you have to send card details in emails or do a bank tranfer. I opted for bank transfer as I considered this the safest option but was hit with charges, both for the deposit and balance.

My sister and her partner later decided to join us for the five nights which inflated the price by three hundred pounds, so even though you rent the cabin, It is substantially more expensive if there are more of you.

The location is just superb. Like I mentioned, we had an amazing view of the lights upon our arrival and we saw them four of the five nights! We were very lucky with the weather as it was clear skies for the entire duration of our visit. The light pollution in Tromso is just completely taken out of the equation. In actual fact, several months before our visit I booked an aurora hunt with Guide Gunnar mid-way thoughout our trip. We drove into Tromso, got on the minibus and he drove us to a location very close to our cabin! We were also happy as we got some lovely photos of the aurora reflected in 'our' fjord.

The drive to the Lauklines is very easy. Please do not be put off hiring a car and driving here. I imagine some people are put off worrying about the drive but it is great fun and a real experience. It takes about 40-45 minutes to drive from the centre of town, sometimes longer. I loved the journey, the views are spectacular.

Inside the cabins are just as everyone else has described. An absolute delight. I wont go into too much detail but I will say they are very well appointed, comfortable, warm, well eqipped and a real home-from-home.You will have everything you need and things you didn't even realise you need, but you do! The bathroom floor is even heated. The beds are heavenly.

Before we arrived I e-mailed and explained that we were arriving a little late, they replied telling us not to worry and to take our time. As we arrived there was a lovely, little personalised message at reception with instruction. It was a lovely touch and we were all impressed and excited by it.

There are lots of activities you can do from the cabin and we spent two mornings on a boat trip watching whales. We loved it.

The reception is only open for a few hours a day, between 9-11am I think. Our itinerary was action packed and we were up late most evenings watching the aurora. We missed them the last few mornings so couldn't pay the outstanding balance I owed them before we left for an early flight. This resulted in further bank charges so make sure you get all the information you require from the very helpful staff as you check-in.

I would definitely recommend this accomodation, and have done, to anyone who'll listen. The setting, the views and the absolute peace is something we'll all remember. It transforms an ordinary city-break in Tromso into a real Arctic Adventure!

Well my first trip to Norway and I certainly hope it won't be the last. We went in February 2012. Lauklines was a beautiful, clean and perfect lodge to stay in. Our trip to Norway was mainly to see the Northern Lights (which didn't disappoint) So that is why we chose Lauklines as it was in the Arctic circle and far enough away from the city so more chance of seeing the incredible Aurora. The lodge was warm, clean and had a very comfy living area and bedrooms. Andreas was so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We stayed in the last lodge which was ideal. We were on our jetty every night looking out at the stunning views across the fjord. The fjord itself has so much wildlife we even seen a Porpoise and sea eagles. In the winter months Humpback whales come in! We had arranged transfer to and from the airport with one stop on the way to Lauklines to stock up on food/drink for our 5 nights in the lodge. (food and drink is very expensive but we knew this so we tried to take what we could over there and just buy the essentials there) We did a couple of trips, skiing, dog sledding and a Northern Lights excursion trip. All were very good.
Now onto the lights... WOW WOW WOW absolutely incredible. We seen them every night which we couldn't believe. If you do go make sure you take/hire out a DSLR camera and a tripod to get the best shots as my fiancé is a keen photographer and knows how to take long exposure photos.
Don't hesitate to go, if you want to see the lights then it is well worth the money

Lauklines Kystferie is the ideal place if you want to get close to nature but still have all the creature comforts close to hand. The setting is breathtaking with fabulous views across the fjord, surrounded by mountains. If you're lucky, it's also an excellent vantage point from which to watch the northern lights from the comfort of your own cabin.

If you are visiting in the winter and want to see the northern lights then, aside from the pure luck of hoping for clear skies it makes sense to do some reading. Look up tips on how to take pictures of the northern lights and also sign up to the email alerts which notify you when there is a higher probability of success. We stayed for only two nights and we got to see the lights on the second night at nearly 3am! I guess we were lucky. If it's the main point of your visit plan to stay for longer. There are also experienced guides that can help make sure you are in the right place at the right time.

The cabin was well fitted out with everything you'd need, even for a longer stay. We stayed in cabin 1 which seemed very clean and new. The beds and pillows were of high quality - very comfortable. The other big plus for us was the free WLAN with unlimited devices.

The only negative was the rather difficult, icy and steep route down from the road to the cabins. We live in Finland and are accustomed to snow and ice but the situation had everyone falling over which was unnecessary and also unduly arkward when trying to get luggage to and from the car. If the owner would have put some gravel down on the road, life would have been easier for all. Parking is not for the faint hearted! But, it's all worth it!

Full marks and we would definitely stay there again!
