“Paradise away from the crowds”

My husband and I stayed at Diamond Sands for 11 nights during late October/early November 2013 in a ground floor one-bedroom apartment (actually a 2 room apartment but with one room locked off, unit 18). The apartment was clean, comfortable, spacious, homely and well-provisioned and the pool and BBQ area definitely exceeded my expectations. The pool is a real tropical beauty, with a white sandy beach area and surrounded by palm trees. Given the resort is situated right on the main Gold Coast highway we found it to be very quiet, with most of the rooms facing inwards to the pool, and the little mushroom water fountain also helps by making white background noise. It was nice to be away from the busy areas of Surfers and Broadbeach - Mermaid Beach is in the middle of the coastal strip so a pleasant 7km stroll north along the beach to Surfers and about the same south to Burleigh Heads. I would stay here again without any reservations and would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful spot slightly away from the action.

Room Tip: Each to their own, but unit 18 on the ground floor was good

We have travelled a lot throughout New Zealand and like the style of hiring apartments and looking after yourself. The staff were reasonably friendly but we didn't really need them during our 10 night stay. The tariff was reasonable (just) given the standard of the rooms and the level of wear. As a price point this resort is lower end and the rooms reflect that - not bad, comfortable. There are a lot of complaints on here about cleanliness and we didn't find that at all. We had a sick child with us and were very fussy about cleanliness. The ensuite bathroom had a mildew odour (but was clean) but the kids bathroom and toilet were very clean. The pool made the price well worth it. It was warm, cleaned every morning, had a nice sandy side and pleasant seating around the outside. Some people complain that the spa was cold and not pleasant and while this is true, why would you want a hot pool on the GC? Maybe the description needs rethinking.

Room Tip: Ground floor apartments have huge decks, we had a room right by the pool and it was great. No late n...

We had a back room and it was very quiet. The downside was that we had to climb up several stairs as we were on the third level. Car parks were tiny and hard to get in and out when the parks were fill. The rooms were tidy and comfortable. The pool was really good, the downside is that the gates slammed when people walked through them. Being the holiday period the resort was chocka block, but reasonably quiet apart from a groups of school students. The staff were lovely and very helpful

Room Tip: Ask for a back room if possible and remember that the rooms are individually owned so the furniture...

We stayed here in a 2 Bdm apartment. The first thing that struck us was how dark and dingy it was. Then the dirt!! Every surface was sticky with visible dirt and smears. Dust was thick - especially on the lamp base and dated glass table that had pretty pictures drawn in the dust from the last guests.
A bacteriologist would have found the shower and soap dish very interesting. Have they not heard of bleach!?
The vacuum cleaner was held together with string as the lid was broken and the spout was too. It took 3 asks to get it replaced.
Horrible Eco light bulbs just added an even more dingy feel to this dump.
The carpet was frayed in bedroom and lifting up which was dangerous.
The shower base was very springy - felt like it would break and had lots of cracks and small holes in the laminate.
No mop but a bucket!
The extractor fan didn't work though unsurprising due to the
dirt in it.
We had to get the lock in the bedroom fixed as it kept locking when the door shut which could be a problem with kids.
The grumpy woman on reception was fairly indifferent and just said she will see what she can do regarding cleaning which was nothing.
The only good thing about this place is the pool as it was the cleanest thing here but the pool rails which you use to get in and out of where both loose and coming away which could be dangerous for kids or old people.
The "spa" as advertised isn't a spa - just a seperate pool with the same water.
Overall it's very disappointing and dreary and has not been the best time. There are so many other places to stay!! Next door looked appealing!
I find it hard to believe this place could be offered from travel agents!!

Diamond Sands Resort was the best vacation we could dream about because it has been our first family vacation and also the first time in Australia.

The whole pool and beach area was clean and well maintained. We were looked after during our whole holiday there and we did not do much but relax relax relax. The beach was beautiful and I do not think you can find a more beautiful beach anywhere for this price relationship.

I would still say that one thing I would complain about is that we tried to speak English (we are a German family) but nobody tried speaking slow that we can understand better. We also wanted to tell that my mother has a allergy but it wasnt registered when we have spoken to the staff members.

All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would come back again. Thank you for making us so happy!

We stayed there for 1 week with my family of 4. The lagoon inside the area was great for kids in all ages. shallow sandy water and deepest water of 1,8 meters. Nice outdoor BBQ area and spa pool. Nice clean rooms, with kitchen with all necessary utilities.
Close location to the beautiful beach. Many nice restaurants in the area.

Convenient with bus connection to the city, malls airport and all the theme parks.

We just stayed for 2 weeks at diamond sands resort in sept and I am so depressed that we had to leave!!! The Pool is awesome, great for kids as it has sand and a water fountain. Our room was a 2 bedroom very spacious and clean and great view of the pool from our balcony which was very private also. Close to all shops and restuarants nothing is too far. Cant wait to come back again!
