I choose Surfsong to celebrate a special occasion knowing it is a very special place. The scenery, views, rooms, food and service left nothing to be desired. I wish to thank my hosts for a wonderful time and hope to return soon as well as recommend this special place to my friends.

After a one week bareboat charter with friends we ended our vacation at Surfsong. Three nights in The Beach House was not enough. From the trip planning, Martina's responsiveness to every email, to the check out, the property was 5 star all the way. Simon was a delight from check in to check out. He made sure our every need was taken care of. Orlando & Paige were attentive to our needs as well. The two Laura's in the kitchen were fantastic. They even went to the store to get us a lettuce for our BBQ one night. The beach activities were great as well, we really enjoyed the paddle boards, kayaks, etc. never needed to leave the property we were so entertained.
Thank you all for a fabulous ending to our vacation!
The Garvers

Room Tip: The Beach House is great for 2 couples as the second room is a separate casita so lots of privacy. Only small negative comment is property is close to Tortola airport and we could hear planes early in the morning. Not bad enough to keep us from going back, but would probably select a villa on the other side of property.

What's not to like about this place? Yes, it's at the high-end of the price scale (see below), but from what I saw it's all justified: very-well equipped rooms, friendly and professional staff, and amazing grounds and hotel facilities.

I would have to add that the beach is probably the best hotel-associated beach that I've seen--beautiful and tranquil (though the odd plane flies by) and, for those of you who are a bit fearful of the sea, it opens out onto a protected area of water surrounded by a reef and a few mangrove trees. I think it would be great for kids and not just adults. The beach equipment is also high-quality and well-maintained, which is quite rare in my experience.

My only complaint would be that, like everywhere else in Tortola and the BVI, the restaurant prices are too high. Maybe I've been spoiled living in a city that has affordable and amazing food (Toronto), though in all fairness to the hotel the meals are prepared on a near-as-requested basis, which is to say the chef is preparing food almost exclusively for you. Obviously there has to be a premium on that.

At any rate, this is one of those places that is deserving of your business--I highly recommend it.

My wife and I had the pleasure to stay in SurfSong in April of this year (2014). We have been assigned the outstanding Seashell villa, a few meters away from delicate waves and a fresh breeze from the BVI archipelago. It has not been easy to reserve the right place in Tortola given some fierce competition amongst the top resorts, but SurfSong looked to us more "boutique" (and better placed to visit Virgin Gorda) than others and we made the booking. And we have been really happy with the choice, we will definitely go back. It is a small paradise. Simon, the manager, has been helpful and very kind during the reservation process, and equally kind, available and professional once there. The Villa was outstanding: spacious, split in two sections for more privacy (a room and a bathroom on one dependance, the living room with a kitchen and an optional second room in a second building very close by), equipped with comfortable sun beds overlooking the sea with maximum privacy. "Walls" in the room are all made of glass only, so a wonderful light is coming in during the morning and sunset). In the main building, where reception is together with some tables for breakfast, there's a little cozy honesty bar where you can take a chilled wine to drink before dinner (great). The resort offers kayaks and a new sailing both (catamaran) that can be used to sail in front of Tortola.

Notice that you will not be in a typical resort with a great white beach in front of the rooms: in fact there are only small rocks and accessibility to swim in front of the resort is very limited. But this is not detracting anything from the place, which has to be "enjoyed" for its landscape, quietness, discretion, colours and views of the BVI archipelago. You can easily rent a car and explore the big island of Tortola to go to outstanding beaches on the other side. The structure is located conveniently a few minutes away from the airport - no worries, there's no noise from planes departing and landing - and from one of the ferries to go to Virgin Gorda, a must if you stay in BVIs for a few days using Tortola as base. Remember to rent a car as there's a lot to discover in the island also away from the resort (read the notes about what to do in Tortola and which beaches to visit).

It has been a great stay: relaxing, classy but simple, original, comfortable, elegant, and with good value for money given the very high quality of the service and of the rooms/resort.

We rarely repeat any vacation location twice, but the completely wonderful experience of Surfsong brings us back again and again. From the minute you drive through the gate and are greeted by Cate, Mark, Simon or Martina and shown to your villa it is an experience of coming home and beginning a fabulous vacation all in one. The location is stunning. There is a small bay for swimming and the hardest decision can be deciding which hammock to lay in first. It is the perfect spot to either stay at the resort for the day or use it as a base for exploring the island. One of our favorite beaches, Long Bay, is a two minute ride and other spectacular beaches are easily reached in 10-15 minutes. The villas are private, well equipped and most right on the water. There are many resorts on Tortola and many stunning views (we have stayed elsewhere) but none can come close to matching the service and hospitality that Simon, Cate, Mark and Martina provide. They can arrange anything, provision your villa and seem to know what we want before we do. We are already booked for year five.
