I don't know who this Mike chap is, but my family & I have stayed at le tilleul three times - twice in the barn (once in the summer - 5 of us and once for Christmas- 6 adults and 1 toddler) and once in la maison de grande mere (summer break for three). Although wer arrived for the first time in daylight, we didn't go cross country from Doue Le Fontaine and stayed on the main road as per instructions and found the property without any difficulty.

Although you are out in the middle of nowhere, you're less than 10 minutes away from everything you need. If you have children with you, a visit to the zoo at Doue is an absolute MUST.
Both gites are stunning, the perfect place to switch off, unwind and chill out. Lovely walks, superb views both in summer and winter
If you are arriving late or on a Sunday (the supermarkets are shut) I can whole heartedly recommend Marcella's meal, ready and waiting for you when you arrive.

My only suggestion I could make is to install wifi into the properties - makes it SO much easier for those of us with our own businesses.

I cant believe the owner of this shambles is so rude... Watch out for him his name is Mike...
The one who collects the money...He called me a rude Russian ### too rude to print...
He was so drunk and loudly moaning about his awful companion...ruined our trip totally..
Also...could do with a wash himself...too many visits to the nearby wonderful vineyards
We think...GIVE THIS place a miss....AWFUL ARROGANT owner...good job we only
Saw him once.....!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at the barn for one week and enjoyed the place. The 3 bedrooms were comfortable, there was 3 bathrooms and a decent livingroom/kitchen. We found it difficult to find on the first night, it is located in the countryside between four towns with very similar names, and near no real landmarks. If you are staying there you should plan to arrive durling daylight hours and ask for better directions. There are a number of good supermarkets about 10-15 minutes drive away and the lovely town of Saumur is about 30 minutes drive. The price for this rental was much lower than other places so it makes up for the more rural location.

Marcella was away at a wedding when we arrived, but we were greeted by her parents and a huge dog.We were happy with the Barn the moment we crossed the threshold. Clean, spacious nicely furnished and lovely comfortable beds-as well as a bottle of wine (2005 no less) and some biscuits!
My wife is very fussy and she loved the place,so that should count for something if you are deliberating booking here.
Although we are not particularly animal friendly, the dog knows his place and although he may appear at the door if you leave the gate open,he won't cross the threshold unless invited.
The chickens are something else- they eat anything, and feeding them leftovers is great fun.Again, they are not intrusive and you have to search them out before they even know you are here.
Marcella: Norman and I have to confess that we fed your chickens some leftover anchovy fillets,so if their eggs taste a bit fishy, you know why.
Marcella is a lovely young lady, who couldn't have been more helpful .We didn't meet her husband, but we would like to tell him what a lucky chap he is.

For years we have promised ourselves a holiday in the Loire Valley, France and finally we have and it was truly amazing!
We stayed in The Cottage (2 bedroom gîte) at Le Tilleul, which is a rural setting of three beautiful quintessential french cottages surrounding a courtyard dominated by the lime tree (Le Tilleul) It's 20 minutes from Saumur and only one hour drive from Tours or Nantes airports. The very welcoming English owners who live in the farm house on site have thought of everything to make our stay confortable and they also provide many extras. We actually arrived in the late evening so they provided a home cooked quiche, dessert and bottle of wine that was left in our dining room on arrival. The area is perfect for wine tasting which you could do a different one everyday, if you wished! The area also boosts the largest number of Chateau in France and just by driving 25 minutes in any direct will uncover amazing treasures.
We went in March so the weather was still chilly but we still managed to do lots and we have rebooked to return in September to catch the Autunm sunshine and see the vines in full bloom. We've also heard that the owners have an apartment in the centre of Saumur, which is a stunning town on the Loire river so I think our next three or four holidays are taken care of!!
