Lovely gite in Provence, about a mile outside the village of Bedoin. My wife and I stayed here with our toddler daughter and enjoyed the house, swimming pool and garden. Great base for exploring the local villages and also for cycling up Mont Ventoux. Only negative was that we were only told a few days before arrival that towels and bed linen was charged extra, which we'd never experienced before on holiday. We were already in France when we found out so had no choice but to pay the extra. With the charge for cleaning and tax de sejour, the bill for 'extras' came to 200 Euros.
We booked this villa and stayed for a week. A year ago! The home was perfectly appointed for our family of 5, which included 3 teenaged boys. The owners speak limited English, but were patient with our limited French.
The house is located in a perfect position for visiting all of the beautiful towns we had dreamed of.
Highly recommend for families who treasure a quiet oasis, but who still need to be within a 10 min drive to a supermarket. Thanks to Peter and Helen of Joie de Vivre, who provided us with so much local information ... Xxxxx
From the professional service offered by Joie De Vivre to the final arrival at the villa - we cannot fault our holiday here at all. With all the bad press in the UK about villas being rented out without their owners knowing, we were safe in the knowledge that we had booked via a registered holiday rental company and this gave us the security we were looking for. The villa was perfect, Mme Chauvrat and her husband were a delight and whlst their house backs onto the villa, they dont over look it and we didnt feel at all crowded.
Mme Chauvrat is very proud of the villa and was keen to show us that everything that we possibly could have needed was there for us.
The villa had two large double rooms and a slighly smaller double room all with plenty of storage and very comfy beds. There is one toilet and a seperate shower room and a lovely open plan kitchen/dining/seating area.
The gardens are lovely, plenty of lavender and rosemary bushes and the scent during the day wafting as we sat by the pool was glorious.
The little town of Bedoin is about a 10 minute walk away where there is a Carrefour Express along with traditional bakeries and cafes/bars. We didnt eat in the village - there were mainly pizza/pasta places that we saw - not sure if there are the more traditional brasserie/bistros there - we preferred to cook at home and enjoy dinner in the balmy nights overlooking the pool!
We walked down into the town one day - a decent walk down a slight incline as the villa is set up on a hillside - a little busy with cyclists and cars travelling up to Mount Ventoux, I wouldnt have done this at night - but very pleasant in the day.
Carpentras has bigger supermarkets where we stocked up on fresh fish and seafood and enjoyed the fabulous Friday market.
We managed to fit in visting the Camargue and lunched overlooking the Med, Avignon, Orange, Vraison La Romaine and a trip into The Cevannes - all within 40 minutes to an hour and still time to relax with a cocktail back at the villa !
All in all a perfect vacation !
