“Best Family of All Inclusive Resorts in Cancun”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

We've been to Cancun multiple times in the past and stayed at other all inclusive resorts. The staff, service, food, amenities and atmosphere at the Karisma properties stand far above all others. We stayed at Generations with full access to both Casitas and El Dorado Royale. We would highly recommend all of the properties for a wonderful holiday. Specifically Ruth, Allen and Andres on the Butler staff are at the top of their game. The D'Italia team - William (head chef), Luis (Manager), Jaime (Server extraordinaire), and Eduardo (Sommelier) are incredible! The breakfast / lunch food at the Chef's Market is awesome, but the personalized service provided by the hosts (Fabiola and Ana) is remarkable. After day one they remember your name, greet you personally and always make you feel special. Don't miss the opportunity to meet Luiz around the pool. He leads the entertainment team and always has something special to share (like a tour of the amazing green house or a few magic tricks!!). Don't miss all the extras that are available. Ask your butler about dinner at the Chef's Table (D'Italia - Casitas), dinner at Fuentes (cooking demonstration), special wine and tequila tastings and again - don't miss the green house tour with Luiz! OK...I do know that not all of these options are available if you are traveling with children. But I also know there are many more options that are family friendly that we did not take advantage of because we were in an all adult group of four. I would highly recommend any of the resorts in the Karisma family.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with a family, I would suggest a room on the first floor with ability to 's...

After a week at the El Dorado Royale we were invited to upgrade to the Generations Riviera Maya. After a brief look around we decided to pack our cases and give it a try.
We discovered a fabulous hotel which lived up to a Spanish word that we heard on a regular basis 'Excelente'. The hotel lived up to this word in every way.

Our room, or should I say suite was vast, comprising a lounge, kitchen, dining area, large bedroom, a bathroom with a jacuzzi for 2, a couple of showers one inside the other outside and a couple of loo's. It was fitted out to the highest standards with everything you could ever want.
As with the El Dorado Royale the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. A special thank you to Anna and Fabi for making our breakfasts and lunches a little more memorable and fun
There are 4 restaurants at Generations Riviera Maya a buffet type which served up some wonderful fresh food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The other 3 restaurants, Jade (Oriental), Mediterranean and the Wine Kitchen served up some spectacular meals of many courses. It was so good I think we took a picture of every course we had.
Directly behind the hotel is a large mangrove swamp which offered views of some amazing wildlife. We saw humming birds, iguanas, pelicans, frigate birds amongst many others, but the treat has to be the Mexican Crocodiles which you will regularly see just outside of reception. Don't worry there is a fence!
Our thanks to Generations for a wonderful holiday!

Room Tip: Enjoy! its amazing

If you are looking for a 5 star family resort in the Riviera Maya, this is the property for you! The rooms are large and can be configured so you can share one unit which is comprised of 3 separate living spaces with a large gathering space with a livingroom, dining room and kitchen. There is also a chef available who will come in to your room and cook for you, if you find your kids or family member are too tired from a long day at the beach or pool! The best part of this hotel are the gourmet restaurants and the service at the hotel. To have such outstanding amenities at a family resort, is so refreshing. I cannot say enough about this property, and I recommend it to everyone.

First off, I went to Mexico for a destination wedding. We were originally supposed to stay at Paradisus La Perla in Playa Del Carmen. Get this - 48 hours prior to arrival we were told via email that our whole wedding party of 50 plus people have been re-located to this hotel with NO explanation. Without any reasearch - we started to panic. Shame on the Paradisus La Perla (Melia hotels) for this big surprise and the way they handeled it. Beware of these people!

Oh yes - About Generations:

CHECK IN: We were pleasently surprised when we finally arrived. The welcome center is about a mile away from the actual hotel. A natural protected area with alligators and other wildlife are between the two facilities.(Very cool!) Golf carts take you to the hotel once your checked in which was really nice and easy. Upon arrival you are introduced to your butler who handles just about everything for you during your stay.

ROOMS: WOW!! Since there are only about 140 suites in the whole hotel you can imagine the space each room has. Each suite has a seperate living room with HDTV, an amazing bathroom, and a nice king size bed in the bedroom with HDTV. The bathroom has an amazing jacuzzi, sepaerate toilet room and walk in rain shower. Depending on what level you are on, you also either have a swim up patio (1st floor) or infinity pool (2nd thru 4th floor). We had a swim up patio. This patio allows you to stay dry with a table, two chairs, and an outdoor sofa. Step down from there onto a platform of about a foot of water. There you have two lounge chairs in the water. From there three easy steps lead you right into the pool. So the pool bar is accessable from your room. How cool is that?!

Property: The property was very clean. Cleanest I have ever seen. Of course the resort just opened in late February so there is not much thats even been used yet.

Restaurants: There are 4 on site and all of them are very good. The service was impeccable! The food was always fresh morning, afternoon or evening. If you like sushi JADE is your restaurant.

Pool: The pool is awesome with easy access to the swim up pool bar. The bar has every liquor imaginable (the good stuff) Crown Royal, Jack Daniels, Grey Goose, Belvedere etc. They can make any drink under the sun! Just ask them.

Beach: Ok, this is why it did not get 5 stars from me. Right now the government just started building an artificial barrier reef. This means that there are large, very large cement structures in the direct view of the ocean. It almost looks like Normandy on D-DAY - that bad. These things will eventually sink and create an artificial barrier reef somehow, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. So please be aware there is next to zero swimmable beach on this property. Sure there are beds and chairs out there but what good is that if you cant swim in the ocean to cool off?

Perk: Because you stay at Generations also means that you get access to the El Dorado Resort next door. This resort is amazing! The golf cart path leads you right to this beautiful place. It's about three miles from end to end and walkable. Along the way you will run into pool after pool, restaurant after restaurant, bar after bar. It's endless and a VERY VERY beautiful walk along scenic gardens, pools and lazy rivers. Just beautiful! The beach is much much more accessable on this property as well, although you will still see very lange sand whales in the water to guard against beach erosion. Take advantage of this resort on your stay.

Summary: If you can get this place at a good price, do it. It's 20 minutes from Playa so if you want to swim or go into town you can. The beach is an eye sore for now, but I can only imagine what it will be like in a few years. I'm glad we ended up there, I guess Melia Hotels did SOMETHING right when handing us off to this resort.

Room Tip: Get a first floor room with swim up patio!

Dear E-ROCK82,

Thank you for this great review! It is a shame your trip had to start the way it did but it is wonderful to know it ended up being a good experience, we are definitely thankful your party was sent to our resort.

You are correct about the beach project in process, the artificial reef is a very ambitious project but once it is finished it will become the largest artificial reef in the world, therefore it is well worth the wait and effort.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Generations Riviera Maya.

Best,

On may 11 we left reality and arrived in Paradise. Our travel agent Andrea Redding of Cruise Holidays K.C. recommended Generations Riviera Maya, she was correct once again. Upon arrival, because we were celebrating our anniversary ,we were upgraded to the best room we have ever stayed in. Our first home was not as big. Everyone on the staff was wonderful, They work really hard to ensure there guests are happy. Food truly was gourmet inclusive. We tried to eat 4 small meals a day, so that we could try as many restaurants as possible. The lunch at Chefs Market was my personnel favorite, you can choose between 10 to 15 different cuts of steak and fresh fish and shellfish to have grilled right there in front of you. The beach was very nice, the man made reef they are building does a great job of breaking up the waves allowing swimming and snorkeling right in front of the resort. So if you want your next vacation to be in PARADISE, then you really need to spend it at Generations Riviera Maya.

Room Tip: If you get a room with an outdoor shower you may never be able to shower indoors again.

I have never written a review but I really felt I needed to about this resort! My mother and I just got back from the resort because we went for the Bride's Dress Rehersal wedding weekend and loved the property so much that we decided to have my wedding there! The rooms are immaculate, the staff is so so kind and always smiling (the GM even greeted us on several occasions to ask about our stay) and the food is PHENOMENAL. I really can't say enough about the food, the fresh made to order omelettes in the morning with fresh pressed juice (including a veggie juice!), the wild caught fish and yummy cheeses made on the property. They have yoga every morning on the pier which is so beautiful and peaceful. Just incredible! Only issue we had (and it was not even a big issue for us) is the wifi signal in the rooms are very weak and makes using the internet in the room difficult but the signal was fine around the rest of the property (I even FaceTime'd poolside!). Don't miss out on visiting this resort!

We visited the Riviera Maya in April, originally we stayed in the El Dorado Royale and moved over to the generations. The service provided by the staff was excellent in every way possible. The room was absolutely gorgeous. We had a separate lounge area that had a corner settee and also a dining room table that could fit 8 people around. There was 4 different restaurants, 3 of these were fine dining/a la carte. The other was buffet style. Overall the food was very good however the portions in the al a carte restaurants were very small and all of the food was very limited if you have children. If you are over the age of 18 you are also able to use the resort of the el dorado which is literally just a walk under a bridge away. There are about 10 restaurant in this resort and it is huge, this was a great bonus! We loved our holiday!
