I was looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to stay while visiting Bocas, that was still close enough to the main island. I spent 4 amazing days and 3 nights at Bambuda and enjoyed every minute of it. I stayed in BriBri, one of the private rooms on the first floor. It was clean (everything is new!) and comfortable, and good value in my opinion. I also took a look at the dorms, which were spacious and had a great common area.
The Staff: Incredible. Super passionate about making Bambuda a place where you feel at home and have an unforgettable experience. A few examples of the hospitality I enjoyed: Anders made homemade brownies one day so we could have some more desserts. I ran out of soap and I asked if they sold any in the hostel. I was told, "Not yet." A few hours later, they brought me a bar after going to the store for this. Tom wants everyone to have a great time and always asking if everything is ok. Pablo makes the best pina colada smoothie (breakfast) ever. Drew and Charly prepared some delicious meals. My favorite was probably Seabass with Pumpkin Risotto.
The Restaurant: Really good food with vegetarian options. You will enjoying eating at the big table for meals and swapping stories with travelers. Cold beer and strong drinks -terrific value. You might just go crazy. There was always someone there to make food, breakfast, lunch, or just a drink/snack for the afternoon.
Tips for you: Find a good hammock and relax with a book. Go swimming in the pool (which is open 24hrs!) after a long day. Watch the sunset from the pier or just chill out. Borrow snorkel equipment and check out the reef in front of the house. Have you played billiards in the jungle? Neither had I. Very cool! Borrow the boots and machete and go for a jungle hike on the trails behind the house. Book a day trip from Bambuda. They'll pick you up at the dock.
