“Fantastic Honeymoon”
Reviewed 6 June 2009

This place was fantastic! We arrived early in the morning to the resort and were welcomed at the dock by Helen. We paid too much for the water taxi so when you go remember to go to JamPan for you water taxi. Our room by the pool was beautiful and clean. It opened onto a deck with a hammock that over looked the back dock and if you sit still enough you can see the hummingbirds come to the feeder. Even though you are on the island we still had electricity and potable running water. It was great to see how they are totally self sustaining. Bob and Helen were great hosts to their place in paradise. They were really helpful in giving us information on tours (public and private) of the surrounding areas, calling for transportation, making sure we were well fed, and always had a cold drink in our hand. The atmosphere was relaxed and felt like home. You were always welcome to the ice and drinks in the fridge. Everything is on the honor system. The girls (Johana and Magali) were really nice, great cooks, took care of the rooms, and Magali gives wonderful massages. For those long days out and about. The island dog, Malo, is so friendly and will alert you of your taxi at the dock. You can warm up on your snorkeling skills in the pool and then head to the back dock where you can see starfish, red snapper, and if you are lucky Barry the barracuda. Make sure to bring your camera they have lots of really nice flowers and plants on the island to look at. We are very happy we stayed there and are telling all of our friends and relatives about it. We hope to make it back again some day.

So glad we stayed 3 beautiful nights at the Garden of Eden. This was one of the most luxurious accommodations of our entire trip. So beautiful, laid back and relaxing – perfect for sunbathing, reading or just lazing on the hammocks. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. I, too would recommend a massage from Magali.

We had been planning a trip to the Garden of Eden for several years and decided this is the year for our trip. When we arrived in Bocas del Toro we got a taxi from the airport to the water taxi. The boat ride to Bobby's and Helena's piece of paradise was wonderful. Helena and Joanne met us at the dock with open arms. Our stay at the Garden of Eden was very special because Bob, Helena, Joanna and Magali met our every need.

Helena was our travel agent during our stay. We were planning to rent a car and drive to Panama City. Once we were in Bocas del Toro we found out it was not possible to rent a car and do what we wanted to do. Helena arranged for our flight to Panama City, the hotel and a driver. Everything was fabulous!

My husband and I stayed in the larger, more private suite and would highly recommend it to others. The hospitality of Bob and Helena was superb - Helena went out of her way to arrange outings and advise us on the local scene. We greatly enjoyed the private boat tour of most of the local sites. One of our trips was to the chocolate Plantation/rainforest,it was very interesting.

We can not say enough about the Garden of Eden except it is MUST DO!!!!!!!!

Meals by Joanna and Magali were very wonderful and quite reasonable. Helena made some great drinks and the bar bill was also very reasonable. We did not experience problem with no see ums if we burned the wicks provided by Bobby.

At the end of our visit on this wonderful and secluded piece of paradise, we asked ourselves "What took us so long for our trip to the Garden of Eden?" We are planning to return in 2 years.

I arrived on the island on a rainy Thursday morning to a delicious breakfast and wonderful hosts. The sun came out by late morning and really showed off the beauty of the island. The island is quiet and peaceful in the morning with the sound of nature all around your room. Although breakfast is served in a common area, there is no rush to join everyone to eat as they will wait for you to prepare your individual meal. Many of the foods are prepared with fresh fruit grown right on the property. All of the food was delicious and the rooms were well appointed and tropical, just as you would expect on an island paradise. The pool is refreshing and clean and the staff is very attentive and polite. Bobby and Helena are excellent hosts and make everyone feel welcome in their private paradise. They are an excellent source for local sightseeing and can recommend many local establishments if you want "the local feel" of Bocas. If you request daily transportation they are able to arrange for affordable, quick transportation in minutes. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone interested in getting some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy slow paced island living.

My stay in this small private island resort was easily the best 3 days of vacation I have had in the past few years.

Our hosts, Helena and Robert, two expats from the Florida Keys, immediately made us feel at home and on vacation. Between the wonderful people, the outstanding location, and the overall value, my stay at the Garden of Eden was fantastic.

Rooms were well appointed and furnished adequately. Each had a terrace with a hammock, two chairs and a spectacular view only shared by the hummingbirds darting from flower to flower.

Food was pretty good and offered more variety than most establishments in Bocas Del Toro.

The 15 minute boat ride might bother some, but I would argue that it is an advantage. The ride is pleasant and a roundtrip per day per person is covered by Garden of Eden.

Cons: Bugs were difficult to avoid. Staff provided anti-bug smokers, but a breeze (natural or from fans) was the most effective defense.

Suggestions:
-Install ceiling fans above hammocks by the pool. Install A/C units in rooms even though rarely needed.
-Freshen up the food menu a little bit
-Offer tours using local boat driver
-Offer off-the-dock fishing.
-Put together a book library (patrons can leave books behind) and a shelf of board games
-Put shampoo/conditioner in showers (buy containers and refill periodically)

WOW!! AMAZING!! Not enough adjectives in the English or Panamanian dialect to describe this one of a kind resort. It is by far the most beautiful place we have ever stayed but Bob, Helena and the girls make you feel like you are in a "little slice of heaven." Everything from the food, company, fabulous massage and of course Malo make this the ideal spot for all of your vacation needs. We would love to keep this destination our own little secret but that would be selfish to others who can have the same, fantastic, relaxing vacation of all times.
Thanks Bob and Helena for all the advice. You all ROCK!!

We want to put our review into context as one of us is well traveled (Maria) while the other (Paul) just experienced his first trip out of country.

I will start my review of my experience at the Garden of Eden Resort letting other readers know I have traveled a lot through out Europe, Central and South America, some of the Caribbean and the US. I have just experienced one of the most fascinating places I have ever been to….Bocas del Toro, Panama and more specifically, the Garden of Eden Resort.

Panama is a multi faceted, interesting and friendly country. Bocas del Toro is an intriguing part of our world. It is simply an amazing place where local natives living traditional lives mesh with international tourists seeking an ultimate connection with nature – it is a place that offers the most adventure and the most serenity.

The Garden of Eden Resort…

I asked myself what was the one thing that makes this place. There is not just one thing that provides for a absolutely phenomenal experience – it is how it all comes together in this one very special place to give you the experience you want. The owners, Bob and Helena Myers have a very special talent. They have created a very cozy atmosphere in a very exotic place that allow guests from all different backgrounds to feel at home. It is not just an island resort, it became our island resort because of the kindness of our host and hostess. I truly say, it is a super friendly place, very local and very international…very interesting!

A sunset is always better seen than captured in a picture. Capturing the essence of the Garden of Eden, appropriately named, is exactly the same. I like to refer to this place like the land of the lost…time stands still so you are allowed to enjoy a most unbelievable time! At this resort you can find the maximum – adventure, partying and serenity! It is a place that conforms to what you are looking for!

My hat is off to Bob and Helena for creating such a beautiful place in this world…but how could you expect less from such beautiful people!

Must see/do: Fishing the deep waters for wahoo/tuna and do photo hunt for the red frog!
Maria

As for me, I will start out by saying this was my first time out of the US. When we flew in to Panama, Bob and Helena had arranged a tour of Panama with a great guide who showed us the Panama Canal and the old Ancon Fort.

After arriving at the Garden of Eden Resort, my stay could not have been any more fun and pleasurable. The owners Bob and Helena were just prefect. The food was more than enjoyable, prepared the way I wanted. And the drinks were out of this world.

On one day, Helena took us into town to shop and show us a “day in the life of Helena” - Very, very interesting to say the least. Don’t think there was anybody in town that did not know her or show her love. She showed us the good spots to eat and party if we wanted. But I found the party at the resort to be much more fun and relaxing.
I cannot say enough about this place. It is a must see and stay. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you Bob and Helena you made us feel right at home.
Paul
