Malapascua Exotic Island Dive & Beach Resort
Ranked #4 of 13 Hotels in Malapascua Island
Certificate of Excellence

This place is a little hard to get too, but ultimately worthwhile. It's a three hour car journey to Maya from Cebu City, then a 40 minute boat ride to Malapascua. The boat will drop you right outside the resort.

The rooms were clean (if slightly damp smelling). Ask for the rooms away from the sea at the back of the resort - they are newer, less damp, and bigger. The restaurant serves a mix of Filipino and Western food with a great value barbecue on Wednesdays.

The diving was pretty good (but in July the visibility is pretty bad - 5-10m). You're pretty much guaranteed thresher sharks if you stay 5 or more days. One group we were with saw a mola-mola as well. The guides are very good, but they are in demand and occasionally you might be stuck with a temporary one or an instructor who's not a local as a guide. They try to have a single guide with a group for the whole holiday but this is often not possible. Remember to tip them generously if you see something special!

We went to Malpascua especially to do a Wreck Diver Speciality Course. The instruction and organisation was absolutely wonderful - thank you very much Tim. The dive boats are well kept and the boat boys are more than helpful.
My husband was lucky enough to see the thresher sharks and Manta Rays (5am dive).
It is a divers paradise and a 5 star dive shop.
Now the resort:
- the rooms are spacious and very clean
- the food is perfectly ok, there is also a nice choice of pack lunches when you do a day trip
- the service lacks immensely (we had to wait more than 2 hours to get the bill, food orders never arrived because the waitress forgot to write them down, it took 4 attempts and about an hour to get toilet paper.....)
We did enjoy the holiday, but will probably not go back.

Malapascua is a fantastic island to do Just about anything and especially for diving. Malapascua Exotic Island Dive & Beach resort is a super base to explore this little Island as well as check out the magnificent Thresher Sharks that frequent its waters. After arriving at Cebu Airport you will need to take a 3 hour car ride to maya and from there a quick boat ride to the Island. However make sure you arrive at High tide as you will be stuck at the Jetty during low tide.
