“What more do you need!?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2012

I was in Malapascua for 4 days diving. Slams was someone I chose because it looked up together and clean. I was not wrong. The thing that really made the experience for me was the staff. I ended up spending a fair amount of time at their bar (small but quaint) during happy hour. All of them were helpful and really friendly. I could hardly fault the place on anything. Rooms we spacious and clean (they cleaned them every day). The location was close to everything but a little out of the way from the main strip. I left Malapascua completely in love; with the island and the people.

Thanks to everyone at Slam's for making me feel so welcome.
James

Close but not on the beach.
Nice new rooms.
Good air con
Good wifi
No inhouse resturant but has an inhouse bar.
Friendly staff.

There seemed to be a bit of a plumbing issue with our room as the toilet did have a constant smell of wee. The door shut and the window open big a bit of a job on that. The room was not affected unless you left the bathroom door open.

No TV in the room but why would you want one on an island like this.

In room safe.

A simple and basic resort located behind Thresher shark dive centre. Room in general is spacious but water flow for shower and toilet is poor. Take note that bath towels only gets changed every 2 days.

I was here for several days with family for relaxation and diving. Nice and clean rooms with hot showers in a peacefull location. You are free to use any dive shop.
One minute walk to either beach. Pretty little nipa hut bar.

Slams is a fine place to stay if you are looking for a mid priced, well kept and comfortable location to stay while diving at Malapascua. I expect that just a year ago Slams would have been considered to be at the top end of the offerings on the island but, by all appearances, there are investments being made in a few more up scale properties that will become options for those who are prepared to pay a bit more for very nice room and location. Although Slams is close to the beach it is not "on the beach" and for some this might be a drawback but, in fairness, nothing in Malapasua is far from the beach so a quick 3 minute walk brings you to the beach where you will find a great number of dive shop and dining options.

Slams does NOT have a pool and again, to be fair, not too many other resorts have pools either and this is probably attributed to the fact that fresh water on the island seems to be in short supply. and even the water from the showers is very "hard" and the shower heads need cleaning.

The web site we booked from offered rooms a "Superior double or Superior twin". The Superior double is exactly that, two single beds pushed together and there is a gap between them. Keep this in mind when booking. The staff admitted that they have received complaints about this but....!!

There is wifi on the property and it works well enough for those who are not email hungry but if you need more than "shared" capacity you would do better to have your own data plan with one of the local carriers. (The cel tower is less than 40 meters from Slams so the signal strength is always good.)

The staff on site were very helpful, friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much for them. Well done, girls!

Getting to Malapascua requires that you take the local "ferry" which seems to come and go on a rough schedule BUT on Sundays it seems that they are less frequent and the last trip from Malapascua is at 1 PM. If you miss that last trip the only option is a private hire trip. The girls at Slams will buy the ticket for you but this is not a reserved seat, it's "first come, first served" and when the ferry is full it will leave. There is no proper pier at Maya or Mlalapascua so if you are travelling at low tide you will be shuttled from shore to the ferry in a small dingy for which the boatmen will charge P 20/head. The same fee is applied to "porters" who seem to be hanging around like vultures particularly at the Maya pier where a scramble over the rocks to the dingy pretty much requires assistance form a porter. In the end, this is cheap insurance from falling in and drowning your mobile phone or laptop.

A visit to Malapasua is very relaxing and the stay at Slams made it comfortable as well!

Slams garden resort is 3 minutes walking to nice beach. Resort is located near several restaurants and "shops". But still it is in calm and silent place (like everything on Malapascua :))
Rooms are clean and nice. Garden inside resort is pampered.Staff is extremly friendly, helpful and nice. I really enjoyed my stay there.
good advice: take flashlight if you travel to Malapascua. There are a lot of paths without lighting, so in evenings and nights flashlight is a must (to avoid stumble or step into smth).

Room Tip: take room on 1st floor. It is more safe (beware of burglars)

I recently had a short stay on Malapascua to dive with the famous Thresher sharks nearby. All of my arrangements were made via Thresher Shark Divers. I had 4 nights at Slams which is a short walk from the beach. The room had 2 double beds and a small fridge which was handy for water/beers etc. There was also a reasonable shower and toilet as well as air conditioning. While the room was basic it was well maintained and the troop of local women who run the day to day business were very friendly and helpful.

For people who head to Malapascua for diving I would say Slams is a decent spot to stay. There are nicer places on the island but Slams is certainly good value for money. The only issue I experienced during my stay was some noise from the roosters early (I mean at 4am) and that was it.

The bar is basic but good value if you fancy a drink after diving. It would be great if the resort had some sort of restaurant so you could grab a bite after the days diving. Grounds were well maintained.
