Stayed here during a 3-days-2-nights stay in April. Paid PHP1500 for a non-AC room for 2 with free breakfast. The free breakfast servings were huge! The room was clean although a little dark, even when you turn on the lights. There are dogs and birds but that's normal in this island. And one particular bird was really funny.

Staff are friendly. Booking was okay although not very efficient, IMO. And, like in most of the eating establishments in the island, food takes a while to get served on your table.

We had a great stay here in Hippocampus Beach Resort. After the boat transfer from mainland Cebu to Malapascua Island, my friends and I have no idea where this resort was located. Good rhing that The locals are so accommodating and helpful. They lead us to the resort and gave some tips what to do around the island. The check-in process on the resort was also a breeze since we have already booked and paid the rooms via www.agoda.com. Our rooms are clean with comfy beds. We also enjoyed the balcony of our room where we have our nightly chit-chat about the day's adventure. The resort is nicely located. We actually did some resort hopping in terms of lunch-outs and dinner-outs. I have all praises about the resort except for their high priced menu. Overall, we had a great stay.

stayed for 3 nights in a standard room, unlike some of the higher class rooms it is simple, but still offered all I need. And as it was low season I could make a good bargain. Staff is friendly and helpful, i felt like at home. Diving with the associated SeaQuest shop was fantastic. Perfect holiday!

Room Tip: standard is perfect, if you are on a budget, otherwise try one of the beachfront rooms with gorgeous...

I arrived at Malapascua around 8AM, and they allowed me to check in this early so it was sweet of them. The resort manager (I assume) gave me a discount since I was traveling solo and friendless. haha. I was very contented with the room I got, it was very basic, nothing fancy but spacious and was clean enough. I got a fan room only, but it wasn't humid in the island at all so it was pretty alright.

Wifi doesn't work inside the room, but once you go out to the balcony it's fast, even more so from the restaurant. I like the room really, the lighting is romantic, the toilet was clean and it was just a few seconds from the beach.

They setup tables in front of the beach in the afternoons so one can lounge and relax while watching the sea and listen to the waves.

The staff are nice and accommodating. They were always smiling and attentive. They would ask you if you want to your room cleaned, so that's a plus point as well. fresh towel and tissues daily.

I didn't particularly enjoy the food though, a bit bland for me. But this is a remote island so I am not fussy when it comes to food, but if you are particular there are other restaurants you can eat from here.

All in all, a very good stay and I'll be back here once I visit Malapascua again sometime this year.

Spent 2 nights here, after an issue with booking where we were honestly misunderstood via email and the 3rd person of our group didn't have a room one of the staff found another cheaper room in a shop out the back which was a big help. Room was good for the price, resort is on the beach. Their restaurant has some pretty average dishes however but luckily there are 10 other restaurants in 5 minutes walk.

Ok, looks can be deceiving.

When we arrrived in may 2013 after emailing back and forth with Christy the manager and owner we were welcome to stay at Hippocampus for four nights.

The room was ok, bit scruffy but agreeable. The staff was great, the garden was lush and the beachfront restaurant was great and the menu looked great. Christy herself welcomed us with a welcome drink. Perfect life on a bounty beach. However: looks can be deceiving.

After the first night and full day on the island we returned at the resort, a staff member told us that we could just stay one more night.
We told her that we made a reservation for three more nights, and showed her in the booking book. We were suddenly scratched out.

We could pay for two nights and move to the house of the brother of the owner, far from the beach. ( owner's brother????? What?)

We argued and pleaded, and however all staffmembers agreed that we were completely right, case was closed. Owner Christy was called, not around to break the bad news. We packed our bags and left; paying just one night. We ended up in the Legend Resort next door.

Everyday we would pass Hippocampus and Christy, the owner was there almost every time, and never did she apologise, nor explain why and how she screwed up this deal.

Angry and dissappointed, our stay at Hippocampus was one not to be remembered.

Beware: looks can be deceiving.

This is Cristy, I am not really pleased to be called 'straight out of hell', as you may imagine. No question, this booking did not run very smooth. What happened is this: Clients emailed us on may 29 from southern Cebu, asked for a room and a reservation was made for may 1st. On may 1st we received another mail, saying that they could not make it on this day. We replied and recommended to just show up in the resort the next day and that we would be able to help. The originally booked room was rented out then to another couple for a longer stay, thus avoiding any cancellation fee. At that stage a third couple from a prepaid fan room had finally decided to leave for an aircon room in another resort (2 nights cancellation fee, we expected this as they had already determinedly asked for an upgrade to an ac room, but all our ac rooms were occupied). This vacant fan room was now given to the clients the other day. Everybody would have been happy now, but things turned out different. Unexpectedly the people of the prebooked and prepaid room showed up two days later and wanted to occupy their room again. Now we were in trouble, the booked guest were - argueably -given priority and the couple, so badly reporting now here, was asked to leave. So a complicated situation we tried to resolve elegantly turned out to become bad. Attempts to offer another room further inland and indeed 2 min walk from the beach failed and the guests opted for a more expensive room in another resort. Looking at this from a distance, we tried to find the best solution for everybody, took a too high risk and unfortunately failed. It is a lesson to be paid.
sorry for that
Cristy
