You must stay here if you're in the area. Actually travel to this hotel from far away, it's that good. The rooms, the welcome, the gardens, the dinner everything was fantastic. Swimming pool was a little nippy but a minor point. Would be a good place to bring kids too as there's a massive garden with trampoline, badminton, ping pong, tree house besides the pool.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mystere room which at the top of the turret and is accessed by your own flight of m...

Everything about this place is just wonderful. The Chateau itself is really stunning with lots of history. The gardens are huge and there are lots of places to sit outside, plus the pool is really lovely if you have good weather. We stayed in Chambre du Parc with views over the garden, a lovely comfortable bed and en-suite bathroom upstairs with both bath and shower. The hosts made us feel very welcome and there was a lovely atmosphere amongst the other guests. I highly recommend dining in their restaurant, the €49 menu included an aperitif (which was constantly topped up) and coffee/tea after the delicious 4-course dinner. It was without doubt the best food we have ever eaten in France! Breakfast was equally good and the staff were so friendly. We were very sad to leave and will definitely be back.

My husband & I spent the last night of our holiday in France at chateau st Paterne.
It was a perfect end to our holiday. A beautiful setting, with gracious hosts and sublime food.

I wish we had longer to take advantage of the facilities at the hotel & to explore the area.
We will definitely return & will recommend to others.
Thank you

Stayed overnight on route to our holiday destination. Absolutely stunning chateau. We arrived late on a Friday evening and the owners provided dinner for us in the beautiful dining room. Food here is delicious and great pride is taken in serving wondetful local dishes. Great breakfast including home made rice pudding! Our room was fabulous and the grounds are delightful. We were travelling with our son aged 11 and our dog and both were genuinely welcomed. Do visit here it is a must!

This is a very beautiful and peaceful place to stay in Alencon, France. We enjoyed the grounds and the lovely French dinners and breakfasts. The owners are quite friendly and accommodating. We really loved this place.

Room Tip: Some restaurants within walking distance. A little hard to find.

We have just spent the last two weeks in France staying in Paris and travelling into Normandy and the Loire valley. The Chateaux de Saint Peterne is undoubtedly the highlight of our journey...

The 500 year-old Chateaux has been in the de Valbray family since inception and has been beautifully restored. It is situated outside Alencon and comprises a main house surrounded by magnificent gardens. With some interesting WW2 history as well there are lots of stories that your hosts Charles-Henry and Segolene can tell you. The rooms are wonderful and each evening you meet for cocktails with your hosts at 8pm followed by a 4-course meal cooked by Charles-Henry.

At 49 Euros for dinner you get amazing value with authentic French home cooking and every evening a gastronomic surprise awaits. Do not bother looking for another restaurant in Allencon because this is the best place to go ! There is no lunch available at the Chateaux, but there is a very good continental breakfast in the morning.

It is a superb venue to just chill out or have a birthday party with friends.

If you are travelling in this part of the world do not miss the opportunity to stay here for a couple of nights - you will not be disappointed.

We look forward to returning.

A recent trip for Jackie & Nigel's 10th Anniversary (they were originally married at the chateau) had a group of us staying here - which I most definitely didn't want to leave. I am absolutely sure this is THE place to get married to have a long and happy marriage! This was the most wonderful place to stay with amazing food (the asparagus mousse is to die for and yes you need seconds), beautiful rooms and grounds. I loved my luxurious bath, which I spent time in every day listening to Edith Piaf. It's easy to feel so at home here with the staff and owners (Charles-Henry & Segolene) who take such incredible care of their guests with attention to detail that was second to none. This amazing place will restore your spirit and sense of how life should be lived (i.e. not rushed, with delicious food and wonderful friends). I couldn't leave without a bottle of their delicious Pommeau, a candle that reminds me of the night our group sat by the fire laughing, trying to determine if it was the flowers or candle that smelled so wonderful (it was the candle), and the most fantastically beautiful soap that reminds me of the anniversary weekend. Segolene's history of the chateau was fascinating and I'm so thrilled to have been able to stay there with such interesting and caring owners. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and hope I can return soon.

Room Tip: Loved the Terrace room
