Have had a couple of delicious meals here in the past month or so. Would really recommend it.

Staff did all they could to make our visits enjoyable and the food was lovely. It isn't the cheapest place to eat out locally but it is very nice.

Would definitely recommend the Richard Onslow.

Sorry for the late posting. After a bad experience earlier in the month we came back to the Richard Onslow at the end of March. The manager asked that we give them a second chance. This time they were on top form. Everything from the welcome, to the service and food was first class. They couldn't have done better and we weren't being treated any different to other guests. Staff were knowledgable, bright cheerful and helpful and the food just fantastic. We had a ball! We'll be back. Well done everyone.

We booked our immediate family as well as ourselves into the Richard Onslow for our wedding weekend. We had room 1 a stunning 1500's room with a roll top bath and traditional beams. I loved the room but my husband who stayed 2 nights said the hotel was quiet noisy as a) there was background noise from the pub and b) doors could be heard banging causing furniture in the room to shake (but it was a very old room). Our family also noted that there was some noise except those staying in the new build rooms around the back. Despite a bit of noise though the stay was lovely, the team accommodated various request, mind changes etc and we were even greeted with a bottle of bubbly on our wedding night.

All in all considering the Richard Onslow is a pub first, hotel second and I would heartily recommend it. Especially the breakfast which was truly epic!

Suitable for couples, business and those travelling with family and probably the best in Cranleigh.

Room Tip: If you want a quieter night ensure you get on of the newer rooms, if you want character and a sumptu...

This place was such a disappointment. We were celebrating a friends birthday and were really looking forward to eating here as it had been recommended. Although a beautiful setting and a lovely building unfortunately, nothing lived up to the hype, and I mean nothing. The service and organisation were attrocious, just shocking; staff were scruffy and disorganised and it was difficult to identify who the manager or senior staff was. Throughout the evening we were served by at least 4 different staff, all of whom had to ask what we had ordered and then they got the orders wrong. The meals were badly prepared (enough grit in the moules to rival Camber Sands), arrived late and represented poor value for money (4 miserly slices of lamb for £19.50). One guest had even telephoned the Richard Onslow to arrange a special meal but was told on arrival that it would not be possible to prepare. Service was painfully slow, which in the end was just tortuous. We arrived at 7.30 and left at 10.30. Our orders were wrong or just forgotten; chips were missed from one and salad from another. The waitress didnt know what steak was rare and what one was medium. The final straw was a sponge pudding was sent out with an empty pot for custard. So many things went wrong that only a few have been included here. I'd rather have gone to Subway over the road which at least you know what you are paying for. I am sad to say this was an example of style over substance - all fur coat and no knickers- for which we paid £237. I will avoid the Richard Onslow at all costs and so should you.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Richard Onslow. On arrival we had problems finding the car park as this wasn't clearly sign posted at the pub. After driving around for a while we managed to get parked up on the street outside. We were greeted in a warm and friendly mannor by a member staff. Who checked us in and showed us up to our room, and then showed us where the car park was. The room was spacious and clean, with a nice toilet / shower room attached. We were asked if we would like to book a table for dinner, which we turned down due to wanting to look at the menu first. There was a welcome booklet and menu in the room for you to look at. After looking at the menu, we decided to venture out to eat due to the menu being a bit pricy for what it was. There are quite a few resturants near the hotel. Ask, Pizza express, and a few indian resturants. We went down to breakfast on our first morning which was Included in the price. We arrived in the bar area, to no greeting, or to be directed into how to order breakfast ext. After being ignored for 10 minutes by two members of staff who kept walking past, we ended up going to the bar to ask. As a veggi i asked if they did an alternative to the full english nad was told no, but i could help myself to ceral, cakes, bread ext which was fine. My partner had the full english, and said it was ok, but felt there were a couple of traditional items missing ie. baked beans & hash browns. Overall we had a pleasent stay, and staff were friendly. However breakfast was a let down.

Room Tip: Room number 2 is above the bar and facing the main road. So can be noisy at times. If you want a qui...

My family came for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. It's a very attractive pub/restaurant and we liked the cosy atmosphere. The service was friendly and it was well on the way to getting a very high rating, but... while the food tasted great and came very well presented, the portions were small and this was slightly annoying. My roast dinner tasted great, but I could've probably eaten half as much again, and I'm not a particularly big eater. In particular, my wife had a £5.00 bowl of soup, and the soup hardly covered the bottom of the small bowl - even with the addition of a few croutons. We mentioned it to two staff members and they laughed and essentially said everyone knew the soup was ridiculously tiny, but then they didn't do anything about it. In the end we left feeling that we'd been somewhat ripped off. It's a shame, because otherwise we would definitely have considered coming back.

As we're not rating the accommodation, I put three stars for certain sections.

Thank you very much for your feedback and for taking the time to post on TripAdvisor. We genuinely try and err on the side of generosity with all that we do and to provide value for money. I am very sorry that you did not feel this way with regards to your soup and roast. We do offer a small and large roast so perhaps you were given a small one by mistake - if so then I apologise. The large roasts often defeat people.
With regards to the team finding the size of your soup portion funny, I find this extremely unusual. I trust my team implicitly and while they can and do make mistakes this is the first time I have had a them standing as a pair and openly laughing at our guests portions sizes. We sell a lot of soup and the portion size has not been flagged up as a problem in the past. As a result of you comments however I will look into it.

Thank you also for your positive comments

We stayed here for one night, so that we could attend a party in the pub itself. When we arrived at 5pm, the pub was busy, and felt really friendly; at the heart of the community. We were quickly shown to our room, which was a decent size, and had a boutique hotel feel about it. The decor was modern and the bed was a kingsize with the most luxurious duvet and sheets. Quality toiletries were provided, as well as a really good selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. A flat screen TV, and an i-pod station were also in the room. The bathroom was large, modern and had a wonderful shower.
The pub has a great wine list, serves a range of high end spirits and has a really great menu, using local produce. Our breakfast was delicious and well presented.
The staff were all very friendly and professional, and generally the whole experience was up market and great value for money.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: You can hear the hubub of the pub from room 2. It was no bother to us, but if you want a quiet night...
