Our 9th golfing trip to Almenara, so we feel able to write an objective review. The three courses are always challenging and the scenery is beautiful, but -
We encountered several problems this year which will make us carefully consider whether we will return: -
For the 1st time ever, no water is supplied with the buggies(20 cents down the road). As a result of this and no water for sale in the pro shop, you have to queue upstairs in the Clubhouse restaurant where service can be slow.
On our 1st (2pm tee off) day our buggy ran out of power on the 18th hole - no apology from the staff! On subsequent days, teeing off at 8am we played 18 holes and the buggies still had almost half power, so our buggy had obviously been used in the morning and not been re-charged.
Bunkers are very very poor, almost no sand, and what there is is like wet cement.
On our second day as we teed off on the 2nd hole we were called back to the Clubhouse and directed to another course as there was a shotgun start on our 1st course(which we were directed to by the pro shop and the caddy master!) - we have never, ever experienced anything like this - how far in advance did they know about this group booking, but chose to ignore it on the day??????
Playing 1st each morning we were amazed at how many pitch marks on greens had not been repaired by their makers or ground staff.
We have had some great times in the past here, but these problems need fixing!

the Almenara golf courses consists of three different nine holes which all can be played as a combination for a 18 hole round. All the courses were in excellent condition with very fast greens.
The hotel itself consist of numerous self contained rooms well equipped and comfortable.
There are deals to be had but you need to enquire early.

We should have been playing La Reserva (fantastic) but had to move courses due to a European Tour event. We thought that choosing a course on the same estate and so close by would guarantee a decent track. How wrong we were. Putting aside the very poor course design, The state of the course is a disgrace. One of our party is a Head Greenkeeper in UK, in his opinion it will take 12 months to get the fairways into a playable/acceptable condition and I would bet they don't do anything about it. Why? Because there are loads of poor golfers handing them money to play and turning a pleasant afternoon into a 6 hour slog for those of us who can occasionally hit a decent shot! 40 euros for a buggie!! 10 euros for cheese and ham sandwich and small coffee! They are having a laugh!!!!,

The greens are very challenging and will test the best of players. Having 27 holes gives good variety mixing and matching the 9's. The rooms are a good size, clean and you can drive your buggy up to the door which avoids carrying your golf bags around. The bar food was reasonable but limited variety in the restaurant was a disapointment, so eating out is advisable if you fancy a change. There is wifi if you need it which does extend to the rooms.

Played a round of golf with my wife and son. He lives within sight of the course!
The course itself is of excellent quality and quite difficult unless you are a competent golfer. A lot of water and plenty of other places to lose your ball. Definitely as good as you could want and a good challenge.

The clubhouse and hotel are top class. We had a meal in the restaurant which is part of the clubhouse and found a good choice and reasonable prices.
