We have frequently visited Imperio II for morning coffee and toast, but until recently had not had a chance to drop in for something more substantial.
This is a wonderfully understated, family run, traditional Spanish eatery, and while the décor may seem a little downbeat to your average tourist, this is more than compensated for by the ambience and the atmosphere. The Restaurant is also absolutely spotless, as are the washrooms.
I have seen a few reviews of Imperio II, and anyone that suggests that it is expensive has obviously not eaten out in the UK recently. We had 3 courses, and a bottle of Vino de la Casa, and the total bill came to less than 60 Euros. Readers of my other reviews will note that we paid well over £100 in a local Reigate establishment, were stuck on a table next to the toilets, and ignored for much of the evening. This does not happen here. The service was attentive, not obtrusive, and the staff were very patient even in light of my attempts to communicate in my worse than schoolboy Espanol!
So to the food, calamari to start, (cant really go wrong), Emperador (swordfish Steak) which was tender, and very tasty. And a pumpkin pie with ice-cream which was quite simply one of the nicest desserts that we have ever tasted.
All in all, I cannot recommend Imperio II more highly, and cannot wait to return.
