“Best pizza in Torino & around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2012

There is a modern school of thought about pizza, supporting the idea that this food, classic banner of the Italian cooking all over the world, should deserve much more fantasy and attention in the choice of ingredients. The overall impression is that we are now accustomed to a very standard level of pizza, served more ore less in the same way everywhere, but just a little more care could bring to excellent results and give back interest to an often underrated dish.
At “Pomodoro e Basilico” (Tomato and Basil) there is a clear affiliation to this more creative attitude, and this is probably the first pizzeria around Torino that has chosen this promising new deal. Starting from the choice of different flours and yeasts, the knead and its thickness, to other appetizing and maybe unconventional ingredients (many of them protected by the Slow Food association) to the care in woodfire cooking, make these pizzas much more attractive and tasty than the average. There is as well a choice of beers from indie local breweries. The proprietor, Mr. Patrick, is very kind and proud to explain in detail all his engaging proposals. Most of the times you end eating two pizzas instead of only one! The prices are of course considerably higher that usual, but there are no regrets in spending some more money to afford the result.
