What a great "home". The staff are exceptionally helpful, the hotel is very "mexican", clean, safe and spacious. A lovely fruit/bread breakfast is included but you can also order off a menu. The bartenders mix delicious drinks, the maintenance staff are eager to please and no request is too small. The reception desk staff made munerous phone calls for me to make reservations or determine the hours of operation of several sites outside the area. They never hovered over us so so sense that they were trying to hurry us. There was a musician who played the harp for about 1/2 hour at dinner time - very soothing yet up-beat music. All in all, it was an excellent experience and we would definitely return!!

Room Tip: The rooms not on the poolside tend to be a bit quieter and private.

We recently spent 10 days in TLAQUEPAQUE (Quadalajara).
The choice of QDJ was based on Trip Advisor reviews and Travel Guides.
An unexpected bonus was the opportunity to meet a number ofl "ex pats" and
business travelers who come to the Hotel.
They took us under their wings and in some cases into their homes.
This with the various local tourist attractions kept us very well entertained.

A bit of advice. We had reserved a Rental Car for the 10 days.
At the end of day 2 we returned it.
1. Proper rental Insurance and a modest car in Mexico exceed $100 a day.
Everything else on our trip was a "bargain" .
2. The biggest bargain was Taxi fare. (15 to 20 mile trips for $10.)
3. There is no place to park in greater Quadalajara.

Hope this has been of help.

Say Hi to Art, Sal, Charlie and the rest of the staff, who were uniiformly pleasant.

We stayed at Don Jose the last 2 nights after 2 months in Ajijic Mexico. It was a great finish to our away time. When we arrived the road outside the hotel was under construction and our driver was parked a couple of blocks away. We were also a little apprehensive as the hotel is literally a door in a wall. However once you go through the door there is a tremendous hotel with beautiful grounds including a pool and poolside bar inside. The reception staff immediately sent an employee to go with our driver and give him directions to get to our unit (we had one of the off site villas which was amazing) The staff was extremely helpful and when we had a problem with the WIFI they were there immediately and kept bringing more people until they had it fixed. We ate in the restaurant our second night and wished we had eaten there both nights. The service, food and entertainment was exceptional and very reasonably priced. We are returning to Mexico next year and will definitely include Don Jose in our stay at some point.

My wife and I stayed a week here and are so glad we did. Our initial plan was to stay downtown Guadalajara, then overnight in Tequila, and finally here. This was so much more relaxing than moving from place to place and we were able to do our day trips easily from QDJ. It is indeed an oasis to return to in the late afternoon an enjoy Charlie's (the bartender) happy hour margaritas- the best in town! Having their own restaurant with a great chef and the most wonderful waiter (and new friend) Salvador was another bonus. When we returned home we were contacted to see if our trip went well and to thank us for our stay. The staff is exceptional... from drivers, groundskeepers to receptionist. We will be returning and bringing our family along next time! Their website is very reliable- everything they show and state is true!

The is a wonderful place! The only reason I didn't give QDJ 5 stars is because of the room we stayed in. We made the wrong choice in selecting it, and the room itself has issues (see my comments under "tip to travelers about room choice."

I echo all the positive comments about the charm of the place. The grounds and landscaping are gorgeous and well-maintained. The front desk, kitchen, bar and dining room staff are outstanding, and have really embodied the rich tradition of Mexican hospitality. We were two gay male couples traveling together and the staff treated us with total equanimity and courtesy.

The continental breakfast is very nice, and you can request toast if you don't want the sweet rolls. Because were doing a lot of touring, I wanted something more substantial for breakfast, so I added an order of eggs "a la Mexicana." They are delicious and come with a side of beans for about $5 U.S.

The pool is beautiful, but as of the first week in April the sun had not accomplished warming the water very much. I saw a couple of people in the water but they came out with their teeth chattering.

There are two city bus lines nearby that take you into the heart of the historic center of Guadalajara in about 20 minutes, and you'll be glad to return to the tranquility of QDJ after spending the day in the city.

Room Tip: I can only comment on the room we were in -- the 2 bedroom poolside loft suite. We were two adult c...
