This was our second stay at Ionion Blue in the last 6 months. Once again Denis, Maria and all their staff went out of their way to make us so welcome and comfortable. The accommodation is second to none. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean with great views around Kalamaki. The location is in a quiet area and perfect for a peaceful getaway. We have stayed at Kalidonio Apts next door for many years, but due to its shortened season we are likely to be staying now at Ionion Blue for the forseeable future as we generally go to Zakynthos in May and October.

We had a family holiday here in August 2010 made up of myself, my Mum, my brother and wife, their 3 kids and the eldest ones friend so quite a variation in ages (from 12 to 75)! As expected in August the weather was absolutely fantastic but unless you pay extra for air conditioning the rooms will be stifling. To be honest charging for aircon is really the only thing that I could fault the hotel on but I guess that they have to make the money where they can and you do have the choice. The rooms were lovely, spacious and clean with a nice little kitchen area with a microwave and a fridge that worked! The bathroom was fine with a shower over the bath and plenty of clean towels, big mirror and good lighting. The pool area is lovely with plenty of sunbeds and the pool itself was a lovely temperature so no nasty shocks. The bar/snack bar has been mentioned a few times and I can only add that is a lovely spacious clean area with a good selection of snacks and drinks through the day at very reasonable prices.
The area outside the Hotel is really nice with a lovely walk to the beach. There are plenty of really good bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk but because the Hotel is set back from the main road there is no noise at night or any disturbances so it really is in a great location for everything. Hard really to fault any of the restaurants as they all seemed good but our favourite was Neptunes. Huge choice of food and pretty reasonable prices. There are also quite a few restaurants and bars closer to the Hotel which again were absolutely fine for snacks drinks and evening meals so there is something for everyone here.
We used to go out for an evening meal and then back to the Hotel pool bar lateish for drinks. Some evenings there was a Karaoke with the Hotel guests providing the entertainment which I hate to say was good fun. (Had to say that as my sister-in-law got up and sung!) All in all this is a really lovely hotel to stay at as you have the night life within a few minutes walk or if you just want to ignore it the Hotel is far enough away from the main strip to pretend it doesn't exist. It is a family run Hotel and I think for the Greek Islands, pretty luxurious. I wouldn't hesitate to go back here and if you do decide to go say hello to Dennis and Maria for us!

My wife and I stayed in a reception level (above the basement and with two more floors above) studio the 2nd week of October and so unsurprisingly the weather was very changeable, very wet at times but also the sun shone through on several occasions. The studios are very large really, with a distinct separate area beyond where you sleep with a sofa bed, the kitchen area with fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave and the entrance to the bathroom, The bed, unusually was a double and comfy - but dont know if the double was standard, or if they're changed to twins at times, or if rooms are allocated on type of holiday makers. The bathroom had a small bath, over which was the shower - which was very powerful and the water always hot - and so the shower curtain hung neatly in to the bath so the bathroom floor remained dry why finished. Smashing, dry feet - and an absolute unique experience in our 30 years of visiting Greece and its islands.
Because the hotel is an interconnected block of studio/apartments - over four floors - there can be some occasional noise as people pass along the outside corridor walkways (children have a tendency to run everywhere dont you think?). And with tvs in the rooms, unfortunately some neighbouring residents seemed to have occasional hearing difficulties - so at times these could also be heard. I should stress however that any of these noise related disturbances were rare (very little other inter-room noise experienced) - and as the weather wasnt always great more time than normal had to be spent indoors and on balconies, which are usefully undercover.
As everyone has said the location is ideal - pretty central for the entire resort. A walk one way 'down' towards the beach, the other 'up' to the main road and 'strip' to the awful (I'm afraid to say) TV bars - I do hope Kalamaki isnt tempted to become an overspill for the nearby Laganas (but each to their own) - and then along through the more rural 'beach end' lanes/roads to the 'old road' for a quieter time. Plenty of places to enjoy a quiet traditional meal - but most bars are TV based, so sport and, during October, the XFactor rules as the basis of entertainment.
Another good thing about Kalamaki is that you can easily walk one way (along a road) to Zante town and the other (along the beach) to Laganas - and then beyond to the delightful Agios Sostis. But be careful where you tread at certain times along the beach as you'll see baby turtles making their way out to sea. Buses also run to both and we understand taxis are cheap enough too.
Back to the hotel - it is well maintained and is very clean. There was only one day when the cleaners were off and the bins weren't emptied - and the towels were changed three times in the week, the pool and bar area spotless and the grounds immaculate. Also, there are very tasty snacks available from the pool bar and the food and the drinks were very reasonably priced. When we were there there seemed to be plenty of sunbeds available too and we even managed to get a few hours on a few days to enjoy these. And as it seems everyone else has said, all the staff are fantastically helpful and friendly.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return - although there are two basement studios which seem to be situated under the stairway to and from the reception which might be better to avoid if possible. These seemed to 'collect' the heavy downfalls of rain when it occurred and seemed to be less open to the garden and pool area.

We have just returned from a week-long holiday at Ionion Blue. Cannot speak highly enough of it. Denis and Maria are superb hosts and likewise all the staff go out of their way to be friendly to the guests. Everything about the place oozes class, from the beautifully appointed rooms and the public areas, the well kept gardens and the pool bar area where you can enjoy an excellent menu of snacks and light meals. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean with maid service a daily feature. The only problem we encountered were the access ramps for disabled guests. These were a bit too steep and could do with being modified or relocated. An access ramp to the lift (level 1) on the ground floor would be a welcome addition. That little problem apart, everthing else was superb and we recommend Ionion Blue to anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday in the nicest area of Kalamaki.

Just retuned home from a week's holiday in the Ionian Blue in Kalamaki, we had a 1st floor apartment with a balcony, the apartment was very clean with a maid cleaning every day bar one and clean linen and towels 2-3 times. We didn't have a meal in apart from toast etc for breakfast but have to say for Greece the rooms were well equiped the en-suite was lovely loads of hot water and even a shower curtain Wow ! The pool area was clean and the pool bar snacks were good, full english breakfast about 5 euro's etc.
Although I have seen some bad reports about the ground floor rooms on various sites I can only say we had no problems at all and everyone seemed friendly enough although reception is manned much but the staff behind the bar were very hepfull should you need them. Out and about I would recommend the Iguana sports bar just down the road towards the beach, Gyros pitta and a mythos about 4.50 euro marvelous ! up on the main strip all good taverna's but Parthanon, Ambrosia Olive Tree and Heavens Kitchen all fab try the lamb kleftico in there it just melts, to some up we would definately go back and if you are lucky enough to get a second floor apartment you will love it.

I went with my friend to this hotel 21/9/2010-1/10/2010 and had a very nice time the only thing that let us down was the weather! We had 2 days sunshine out of 10 days!!! The room was very nice, it was lovely and clean and the cleaner was very pleasant. We had clean towels (they were lovely and soft) and bedding every other day. There was a microwave, toaster and kettle in the kitchenette and a hairdryer in the bathroom. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, we never had a problem getting one even though the hotel was full. The pool bar was very nice and had quite a large selection of food at a reasonable price. The hotel is situated centrally to the beach (10mins to walk) and the shops and restuarants (again about 10mins walk). We would recommend this hotel for a lovely holiday!
