My friend Sheila and I had a wonderful holiday in Hotel Marelen, Kalamaki. It was so peaceful and the hotel was just gorgeous. Staff were very friendly and always smiling. We hope to go back next year and see more of the wonderful island of Zakynthos (and bring home some more lovely wine and memories)!!

Room Tip: No best room........all rooms fab.

Spent an enjoyable 2 wks there. Not much in the way of entertainment in the evenings but it was late season. I'd get a car next time - buses are infrequent though very cheap! Walk along the beachfront from kalimaki to laganas and stop off at one of the bars. Lovely! Hotel itself? Lovely breakfasts - plenty of variety - we stuffed ourselves silly!! Good size room - we were in room 452 - double bed (fab!) and joy of joys a top sheet!! plenty of storage, room/bedding/towels regularly cleaned/changed and kettle/fridge provided for free! Lovely big balcony which caught the sun early morning and late evening. Downside - expensive safe 40 euros for 2 weeks and located in reception area! However this is apparently changing as hotel is having a refurb in readiness for next year. Really friendly staff. Currently no Restaurent - bar meals during day up until 6pm. Plenty of restaurants up the road though - you just HAVE to go to MERMAIDS - fab food and service. Really friendly staff - loads ands loads of choice. Don't forget the free courtesy bus to St Nicks beach - don't go if the weather is unsettled though as it's too out in the open!!! The first time we went was fab - then second time, was not a good day! Chilly to say the least! Make sure you check out the beach further up from this though - it's even better!

This hotel is quite good for the money, with spotlessly clean rooms and pool etc. The Greek night is a must!! We have stayed at most Greek Islands (and many long haul destinations too), with this hotel being above the Greek 'average' and at least as good as the all inclusive types around the globe. The only small niggles ; The towels should have been changed 3 times a week instead of two and there were some selfish club 18-30 numptys carrying on for 2 nights until 4am (they should have gone to numpty land, sorry I meant Laganas con Blackpool (30 minute walk from Kalamaki) if they wanted lively, as Kalamaki is fairly family/couples orientated) Not entirely the fault of the hotel although they should have asked them to tone it down. Ultimately, If thats all i can think about negatively it wasn't too bad a hotel then Eh?
The rep although helpful in general and he was very busy, could have done a bit more when we left a bag on the transfer coach, which amazingly we never got back. We had to chase him for answers, but again it was us that left the bag behind in the 1st place. In Kalamaki itself you absolutely must visit the Shamrock Irish bar with good Craic and good prices with the best pint of the black stuff outside Dublin! The best Taverna by a mile is Michalos which is a bit of a hike but well worth it, anyone will tell you the same who knows Kalamaki It is honestly the best taverna I have ever experienced and is genuinely Greek - How does £35 sound for a 3 course meal for 2 with a litre of house red! and top notch Greek food, I cant say enough good things about it, you will have to wait for a table sometimes as it gets very busy late on.

We arrived on a sunday afternoon tired but excited and Julie was there to meet us as we got off the bus she took us stright to out room witch was clean and comftable the only problem with the room was it was one bedroom so me and my husband were sharing with our 2 children (6&7) so there wasn't alot of privacey. We went straight out to the pool, the kids slash pool os amazing the kds loved it, the main pool was also very clean and well maintained. There is lots of sunbed areas we were never stuck for a sunbed as towards the end of the holiday it was getting busy.
The hotel is out of way the but not to far away it will proberly take around 10 mins to walk to the main strip but at night the walk can be a bit offputting as the main road is very well lit.
We were bed and breakfast and the breakfast was served 7:30 untill 9:30 and it was ok large selection of things to choose from just a bit repetative every day.
Evening entertainment was excellent there was something every night and to suit all people, Julie who arranged it all did a top job in fact i dont think i actually saw her have a day off, if she wasn't running around sorting guests out, organising entertainment then she was chatting to everyone who was round the pool or in the bar and she made the effort to talk to everyone. In face on out last day when we were waiting to leave she gave our kids some activity books, postcards and pens to keep them busy on the flight.

All in all top hotel would visit again (just talking my husband round to another holiday next year) and would reccomend to anyone
As an after thought just to let people know there is not a waterpark in Kalimaki, its attached to the carretta beach hotel and its 15euros per adult and 10 child. Its brill for kids but not for adults alone i would say it was worth a half day visit

This hotel was brilliant. As soon as we got there the receptionist Theresa was outside to meet us. She showed us to our room which was immaculate.
The cleaners came in everyday to tidy our room and make the beds. I loved the little personal touches as well they made up my daughters cot and put her own blankets in and teddies which may not mean much to some but i really appreciated it.
The gardens are fabulous and again everywhere was very clean and tidy. The pools were amazing but a little cold. They had just opened the kids pool which my kids loved my 1 year old just kept repeating wow everytime she seen it.
The Staff are all very very friendly and make you feel at home but none more then Julie who was in charge of entertainment she came round and chatted to everyone and my son especially thought she was brilliant.
We were self catering so didn't have breakfast but other guests did comment that it was nice. The food from the snack bar was really nice and the BBQ was well worth the price because there was more then enough for all of us and was really tasty.
The location of the hotel was in a nice place just out the way of the main strip but not too far that you can't walk it.
I wouldn't recommend the hotel opposite for food because it really wasn't that nice but there is a lot of restaurants towards the middle of the kalamaki strip which are really nice. Also Tazies is nice and very cheap don't be put off by the look of outside because we ate there a few times and it was always lovely.
If your wanting to do some trips as well go and see Pat in Kalamaki she is very honest and lovely lady as well.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and resort to anyone and will definately be back sometme in the future.

Myself, husband and two children (13 & 7) stayed here Oct half term'10, accomodation is basic but clean, bathroom floor drain overflowed everytime you used the shower, apartment good size balcony, fridge kettle, patio furniture etc although needs decorating, 2 bedrooms, no tv in any rooms, informed by hotel that this is going to be done before summer season this year. Nice pool deep although if hotel at full capacity would be overcrowded lots of sunloungers very small childrens pools if you have non-swimmers take floats/armbands, food at the snack bar not a bad selection pizza, salads, burgers etc no food served in evening at all, so have to eat out, not much in way of entertainment either, hotel is very near to the beach it was ok and walking distance to the main strip plenty of bars and places to eat, mermaid restaurant/bar was very good and the parthenon, ambrose was poor. Overall an ok resort, the time of year we went most things had closed for end of season. More of a couples/older person hotel not much at all very young children, xbox, playstation, computer, pool table all need euro's!! and you pay it as there it not much else there for them in the evenings. Had a taxi transfer to and from resort from airport 10-15 euros no issue at all, last minute booking ok hotel ok resort. hopes this helped
