“Posh Nosh”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

We visited Essence whilst on holiday for our wedding and were blown away by the standard of food and service - we've been to many quality restaurants in London and this place beats them hand down! Highly recommended and we will certainly be eating here again next time we are in Kalamaki!

“A different kind of food experience”
Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

We decided to visit this restaurant as at the time it was listed as the number 1 restaurant on here. After reading other comments we knew we had to pre-book a table so did so when we had a car for the day.

We pre-booked for the following evening and certainly wasn't disappointed. The food was of a fusion style and made a nice change to Greek food which we had eaten over the previous 5 nights we had been in kalamaki. They brought out testers to try at no extra charge and the food was certainly tasty.

I admit, service can be slightly slow at times as table was booked for 9pm and mains came out at 10:40, but we were in no rush and quality and presentation of the good certainly made up for the waiting time. The service we found was ok and the restaurant had nice music and a nice atmosphere.

The only thing that slightly tainted out experience on the night, which I must say had no reflection on the restaurant or owners was that we were seated next to a party of ladies who obviously worked/lived on the island, one of which was very loud and overbearing. She had a strong Liverpool accent and at times we couldn't here what each other was saying. As the restaurant was full (as it is most nights I can gather which is the reason for pre-booking) there was nowhere else we could move too.

Visited as a young couple in our twenties. Certainly worth a visit for something slightly different but not if your in a rush!

“Do not understand how this is number one.”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

Over rated, gray bland food, rude owner we were made to wait 45mins before we were allowed to order food, the lady who gave us our wine was not allow to take our food order. We went as we were told this was the best, please carry on walking as down the road is Micholos which I would recommend and went 4 time, service with a smile.

Our first meal despite coming to Kalamaki for years and walking past it many times.

All the great reviews we'd had were true. A fantastic fine dining experience that you have to try.

A taster menu to start then a choice of the ever changing menu accompanied by fine locally produced wine.

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, the food cooked perfectly and the ambience like no other in resort.

Strongly advise making a reservation to avoid disappointment. A quick walk in to book a table for a future night will suffice.

We'll definitely be returning during our 2015 holiday.

“Fantastic Evening”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

This was our 4th visit to Kalamaki and our 1st visit to Essence. Wish we'd been before! Great food and service. They are obviously very proud of what they do. The food isn't particularly Greek, but it made a nice change during a weeks stay. The quality is a couple of notches up from all the other restaurants, and in fact we thought it was one of the best meals we've had out in a long time...anywhere. The price is more than the other restaurants, but you get what you pay for, and it's still good value compared to eating like for like back in the UK. Would definitely go again.
