This hotel is fantastic as are the staff and everything about it,
The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean as are all public areas.
The food and choices are superb in the delightful dining room with a signature dish prepared in front of you by one of the chefs and it was wonderful to sit on the terrace overlooking the pool for all our meals. The weekly bbq is well worth a visit to.
This hotel and everyone involved with it will always hold a special place in my heart as it was to be be the last holiday my husband and I would share together as he sadly died on the flight home.

Room Tip: Although the rooms over the pool seemed very nice(some are suites) ours was down the side with fanta...

I really cannot fault the Meandros Hotel - it is in a great location - sitting at the top of the old road - round from the strip. It has easy access to lots of excellent bars and restaurants - with the Cave Bar just up the hill - opposite from the hotel, though the Cave Bar usually opens from May to September. The Oceanic (Kevin's) is just a stroll down the old Road, as is the Beach, Zeppo's and the Crystal beach Hotel. The bedrooms in the Meandros are really large which does not usually happen in other Greek hotels we have stayed, plus you do not need to pay any extra for the the air con and fridge - most hotels in zante charge extra for these facailities. We were half board, and found the food to be fine, both breakfast and evening meals - we found that there was always something we could eat, and the food served in the hotel restaurant was mostly what you would get in many of the lovely restaurants in Kalamaki - though we did eat out a lot in the afternoon, as we hired a car and toured the island - which is a must see. we love Zante Town - which is great in the evening - really comes alive. All of the staff are very friendly, especially Peter the waiter - who takes a lot of time suggesting great places to visit, in fact all of the staff take a lot of time to speak to you. The bar at night is really good - the cocktails are fab. We had a room at the back of the hotel with a fantastic view from the sea to the mountains, and the sunshine in the afternoon till sunset - it is very quiet at the back of the hotel, though some nights had tribute acts at the Antonis which is virtually next door. Our favourate restaurants in Kalamaki are Michaelos, the Olive Tree, Dias, Heaven's Kitchen, Kalamaki Beach Taverna, the Essence, and we also went to Agios Sosti's - to El Greco, as well as the Akropolis in Laganas. In Zante Town Spartakas is fab for the fresh fish - all places are great value for money. We plan to return early next year to the Meandros with our friends, we enjoyed it so much.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel have the afternoon sun

Firstly I want to thank the manageress and all her staff for the gifts and kindness for my wife who celebrated her birthday whilst we were staying there, (yes a big one ha-ha).
Now onto my review of the Meandros Boutique Hotel. Our room was on the second floor and was a large twin which also came with a kitchenette unit, a fridge and kettle which came in handy as I am a coffee freak and need refilling constantly. A/C was very good and came in handy as the weather was very hot for September. Nice soft loo paper, a shower and full length bath also the room was cleaned to a set standard, the towels changed and the bed made daily. The linen was changed every few days or I guess if you asked they would have even changed these daily.
That’s the good points.
Now onto my views.
This is a hotel that requires some updating around the grounds and in this room as I cannot speak for other rooms. Firstly, remember this is a 4* hotel in Thomas Cook’s brochures, not that I booked it via them but found it advertised in the brochure and on the internet.
So more about this hotel room, I found the lack of draw space annoying and the out dated and very uncomfortable chairs in the room a waste of space. The furniture on the balcony was no better for a 4* hotel. I didn't expect to see the rusty table legs painted over and a top that had seen better days along with chairs that the back rest was ripped on most of them. The bug screen might as well not been there and needed repairing or replaced. I know beds may be harder than your own but the very low bed base looked years old and the mattress I found myself very hard and uncomfortable but made do as I’m sure nothing like a memory foam mattress would have been offered in its place.
Onto my views and I don’t think it was up to me to report the following moans if that’s what you want to call them, but hey I am on holiday and did pay good money for this room. I would have thought a little building maintenance would have found the following and prior to allowing the next guest in, could have been fixed as the room was cleaned and the beds made ready for the next guests, so maybe for future reference, a quick look around each room as its vacated could save these items being moaned about in the future. Anyway let’s move on to the bathroom, I didn't think too much to the way the shower curtain track was fixed to the ceiling. A screw in the ceiling and a piece of string holding it up made it difficult to pull around and didn’t look very secure. The bath and basin plugs had no chain to remove them from their holes and it looked like there had been a leak some time from the toilet outlet pipe to the soil pipe from the back of the toilet. Mainly the black discolouring mark in the floor tile grout behind the toilet, the smell of urine and the amount of sealant placed around this pipe joint suggested this. Lastly may I ask why the grill in the bathroom floor does not get removed and cleaned of other person’s hair and bits of debris?? It doesn’t sound like much but it puts a slight dampener on your holiday, well it did mine.
Food (half board option).
My say on the food was the selection of it I felt was not of a 4* hotel standard. Very small amounts or none at all of fresh fruit at breakfast or fresh vegetable’s at the evening meal times. Chicken done in many ways was a big contender and appeared a few times as did wedge type pieces of potato roasted in olive oil and herbs but not many of the famous and well liked Greek dishes. This is one of the reasons I like to holiday in the Greek Islands. My last moan of the food is I am not sure why frozen reformed turkey meat is a nice cut to serve anyone no matter how it was cooked.
Staff.
Like many other reviews here I will say this for the staff, they are very hardworking ,very polite and yes one male member of the entertainment staff can be a bit of a pain but he is good with the ladies.
Anyway, sadly I have to say this was my first stay here and will be my last stay here but there is a large number of holiday makers who love this hotel and return each year or even many times a year but please remember we are not all the same. One person’s dislikes are another person’s likes and as I said this is my review on this hotel and what I didn't like.
I do know that the manageress reads the reviews and answers many of the issues that guests have mentioned. So let’s hope that all replies by yourself to past reviews are dealt with in time making a guests stay at your hotel more pleasurable as the area of Zante that the hotel is situated is a wonderful place.
Best wishes to you all.

Hello bagseybaker,

Thank you very much for taking the time to add your review on Meandros hotel and for sharing your thoughts with the rest of us here.

First of all, on behalf of everyone at the hotel I would to say thank you for your kind comments on our staff and for giving them a credit for the work they do and the way they take care of our guests. Although your overall experience on our hotel was not positive we appreciate the fact that you pinpoint some good aspects of our hotel that you found positive.

Now, as for the drawbacks you faced during your stay I would like to express everyone's frustration and apologies for the fact that we did not manage to meet your needs and expectations.

As you have correctly said, we are always here to reply to our guest’s comments and thought and we always try to do our beast when it comes to execution so as to avoid mistakes from happening again. At this point I would like to thank you for being advisable on your comments so as to help us improve our facilities and services.

I would lke to assure you that every comment of yours will be seriously taken into consideration and I will personally take this under my inspection so as to track every single detail you mention.

During the winter, when we run the period of our fixings and renovations, please be reassured that any issue will be solved.

I would like to mention though that our major opponents in terms of building fixtures is firstly the high percentage of moisture we have in our climate that fast corrodes any material we use and secondly the very high percentage of salt in the water that again corrodes even the most powerful material ( marble). As every year, we will have a very close look into these issues so as to prevent them from happening again.

With regards to our buffet, please accept our frustration for the fact that our chef Nikos and his team did not succeed on keeping you happy. The feedback we receive on our menu and the quality of products we use is very high and even the most fuzzy eaters are catered the best way.

Our menu is planned so as to meet every international taste but it is always based on the Greek kitchen. For example on an every day basis we do have option of Greek dishes that are famous to all, like Gemista, Briam, Fish ala spetsiota, Mousaka, Pastitsio, Stifado, Kokkinisto, Kleftiko, Souvlaki to name a few. Our core policy is to keep the Greek taste into our menu for guests who like to experience the Greek way of eating. We are very sorry to hear that our menu selection was not the one you expected.

As for the starring system in our hotel, we would like you to know that there is a strict procedure when it comes to our hotel classification from the National tourism authorities and of course all major tour operators. Product managers are doing several inspections throughout the season so as to make sure the standards of our services and facilities meet the criteria.

We understand that depending your traveling experience to other countries you expectations to a hotel class may vary and this is something subjective.

For example, the majority of guests feel very enthusiastic for the level of hospitality and service they receive at Meandros and according to their feedback it is rare to find a place that someone knows you by your name and give you this personal touch. We feel a deep honor that our guests come and visit us year after year just because they feel they are a part of this big family.

We feel very sorry that we did not succeed making you feel as a part of this family and we wish there was a way we could have a second change to accommodate you once again, so your can see that fixings to a building can be done in a short time, but relationships is something we build together over the years.

We all wish you have a safe and warm winter back home and hopefully we will have the chance to see you back in our beautiful area and why not at Meandros given a second chance from you. Sending love from all the staff and family.

My family stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of August. The complimentary drinks on arrival were a nice touch. The room was on the top floor overlooking the pool with a beautiful view towards turtle island. We did have noise in the evening from the pool bar but it did quieten down before midnight and therefore didn't bother us too much. The room was extremely spacious but a bit tired and scruffy in places. The fridge and kitchenette were a great addition to room facilities and much appreciated. The pool was a reasonable size and there were plenty of sunbeds but, in our opinion, not enough sun parasols. We were on half board and found the food quality to be very average compared to other hotels we have stayed at in the past. We found the lady cooking breakfast to be particularly friendly and accommodating. Regarding the drinks waiter service during our evening meal, on several occasions the waiters stood chatting to the more extrovert guests, and taking their drinks orders first despite them arriving a while after my family, and by the time we were asked for our order we had finished our dinner, so on these occasions we didn't bother drinking at the hotel and walked up to the fabulous cave bar instead. On the whole, we had a wonderful holiday, but mainly due to the beautiful beach and surroundings rather than the hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor room overlooking pool has a lovely view

Hello Hetty,

Thank you very much for taking the time to add your review on Meandros hotel and for choosing to share your thoughts with the rest of us here.

First of all, we would like to say that we are happy to know that you enjoyed your holidays in our beautiful island and that our hotel succeeded on meeting your needs in some aspects.

Please accept our appreciation for you kind comments on some members of our staff. We do value your compliments a lot.

We would like though to express our frustration for the fact that you had some drawbacks that I hope did not stop you from having a good time.

In fact it is surprising for us to read your comments about our restaurant staff and menu. The reason is that in terms of service and food provided we do receive a great number of positive feedback from our guests. Of course there is always room for improvement in parts but when it comes to our staff we never get such a feedback for any of our guests.

We are very sorry if any member of our staff made you feel this way but please be sure that there is no intention from any member of our staff to neglect any of our guests no matter how extrovert they are.

We do hope that given the chance from you we will be able to accommodate you in home again and make you feel as a part of our family like we do with all of our guests who return year after year and revive their memories.

Thank you very much again for your time on going through our response. We all wish you have a great winter back home. Regards from all the staff and family at Meandros.

We go elsewhere in the year to different countries, but the Meandros is really a home from home and like to spend a week a year there if we can.
All the staff there are truly lovely people and will help in anyway they can to make sure you enjoy your stay.People return to the Meandros time again so it really speaks for itself. We are returning in 6months and can't wait.
The food is very good, the rooms cleaned on a daily basis and we have had great rooms each time. The noise from music at the pool bar is minimal and lets face it we all like a bit of music with our long cool lager in Kalamaki don't we?
We saw the baby turtles on the beach this time which was a bonus, they are so tiny they can easily be trodden on.
We hope all of you at the Meandros have a good winter, and by the way Mario, behave yourself in Milano.See you in May. Love to all.
