Reviewed 14 June 2012

I stayed at Blue Domes late May with my wife and 2 young children (6 and 4yrs old). This resort is stunning, that's without question. However there were a number of disappointments. I'll attempt to list the good and the bad as constructively as I can.

On arrival (late in the evening) we were greeted by a line of flaming beacons alongside the road which really adds a touch of style. At the marble reception, we were efficiently checked in, then had a quick drink while we waited for our cases to be shuttled (on golf carts) to our room. They took us first, then delivered the cases. Only one case arrived at first, but they were very quick to go and get the other three with an apology.

Our room 371 1st floor: stunning. Spacious. Immaculate. Well equipped. Luxurious. Feather pillows. Crisp linen. Flexibility (2 bedrooms with partition). 5 beds.  2 balconies, one of which was huge. 2 huge blue domes. Great sea views. 2 showers. Bath. Separate wc. Well stocked mini bar (with water, pop and beer daily). Downsides of our room: aircon is awful. It runs on a cold water system from the main building. By the time the cold water reaches room 371, it's not cold, thus the aircon is very poor. Rooms 100's, 200's and 300's are cooled this way and are meant to be more eco friendly. All higher numbered rooms have standard efficient air con units that we're all used to. Also the tv channels are not in English. We ended up letting our kids watch a bit of Scooby Doo in German, not all bad obviously, but not ideal.

Restaurants are brilliant. I simply cannot fault them. Choice of the main buffet restaurant at the top of the resort with an unbelievable choice and sharp service, (wood burning pizza oven too, yummy), then 6 themed small eateries by the centre pool bar, or the 4 a la carte restaurants near the beach, though these need to be booked at midnight every night for the next day or you'll miss out.  The main suggestion from us would be that the restaurants could do with child size options.

Pools are amazing. They snake artistically through the centre of the resort from the very top to the bottom. They look stunning. However, they're salt water so don't accidentally swallow any or you'll wretch. Also, the mosaic tiles are coming off. Great fun for my son to collect them and make his own mosaic on the side but really shouldn't be happening after only 3 years.

Sunbeds. Lovely luxury wooden beds with thick pads. Nicely spaced out too so you're not on top of the next person. You have you're own space which you'd expect. However, people were putting towels on from midnight right through the night till 8am when all beds were taken. If you can't beat em, join em. Not so much if any issue for us as we spent a lot of time at the kids pool, which have their own Sunbeds, albeit not as nice. There's also plenty of Sunbeds down on the beach too, with a shingle beach it's a very pleasant overflow when everywhere else is full up.

Towel hire. I heard it was a €10 each deposit and you got this back when you returned them. This is now €20 which meant that I was left with €80 the day we checked out to go home. We travel a lot so no sweat for us, but bear it in mind if it would be an issue for you. You can change the towels as often as you like though.

Kids club aka Mitsis Wonderland is the best kids club I've ever encountered. It also has the only freshwater pool so it's very attractive for the little ones. It's the first holiday we've had where we had both kids in for 2 hours. Sheer bliss for us to kick back and relax, and the kids love it. Oh and you should wander up to the neighbouring Mitsis hotel where you can use the water slides for free. Great fun.

Bars. All restaurants you're served drinks in glasses to your tables. Very civilised and just as you would expect. The pool bar however is very busy, serves drinks in plastic glasses for obvious poolside safety. BUT it is often understaffed. Prepare for a wait and also to fight to be served in the fairest order too.  The theatre bar at the top of the resort is small but 2 guys man it pretty well and the queue is only ever small. Plastic glasses up there too.

Evening entertainment is great. The animation team do a fabulous job and the range of costumes is amazing. Our last day showed The Lion King which the kids and adults alike found it captivating.

On our final day, we vacated our room by 11.30 and took our bags to reception while we enjoyed our day by the pool. We had booked a courtesy room at 7pm for 30 mins. When we entered room 103 it was like a bomb had just gone off. Filthy wet towels all over the place, rubbish,  old flip flops and smelly sandals discarded, half empty bottles of shampoo and muck and filth everywhere. And no clean towels. I immediately clocked a cleaner, she kindly got me some clean towels and then we got ourselves sorted as best we could. A real sorry disgusting finale to our holiday.

Overall however, we were really impressed with Mitsis Blue Domes Resort and Spa.

Would we go back?...... Probably yes we would, perhaps this time our expectations were just a little too high.

Just returned from a week at Mitsis Blue Domes. Had a great time. The resort is kept pristine in every area, with a very attractive layout. The rooms are maintained to a high standard, with very good facilities. All the resorts restaurants served very good food and provided good service. The booking of the 4 al a carte restaurants was a bit of a pain (using a touch screen system), especially for me as I was with a party of 13! However, the restaurant manager was always helpful in accommodating us. Then pools are salt water but clean and lovely to use. Despite the number of people at the resort, nowhere seemed crowded. Only real criticism would be the lack of sufficient bar staff, meaning frustrating delays in getting served and being forced to form a queue in some cases. The bar staff consequently were sometimes off hand and occasionally rude. If you want a trip into Kardamena, the local bus stops at the hotel and runs hourly. Cost of the bus is currently 1.80 euros per person. Kos airport is too small for the number of flights & passengers passing through it, so our return journey was chaotic & crowded.

Just returned from the blue domes and it really was wonderful. I am a travel agent and usually only travel to turkey but thought I needed a change. On arrival checked in efficiently and explained where everything was. I knew i had chosen the right hotel when we was on the coach as its so imressive when you enter the hotel. A buggy took us to our room which was in block 700. We had room 745 which overlooked the pool and sea. The rooms are tastefully furnished to a very high standard. I even had a look at other rooms standard pool view rooms and family maisonettes also stunning. The food in the hotel is to a very high standard and so much choice. We ate in all the alacartes favourite being the mexican but it really is hard to say as they was all fantastic. Staff work so very hard and service was excellent. The lady in German restaurant was lovely always had a smile and a kiss for you. The lady at the beach bar again lovely service sorry for not knowing their names. Special mention to the lady who makes the omelettes in the morning her smile was so warming always wanted a chat and was so good with my little Girl. Special mention to the animation team really worked hard and the kids and adults loved the shows. Mitsis wonderland an amazing kids club karen really kept the children entertained. Special mention to Alex who looks after maxi club really works hard and looks after the children. The whole team really work hard at this hotel to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. If you want a holiday in a beautiful setting fantastic choice of food a place to relax in so many pools then you must book this you will not be disappointed. I am very choosy where I stay but Can honestly say it is a beautiful hotel. It was my daughters birthday whilst on holiday and they arranged a cake for her and all the staff sang to her nothing is too much trouble. Went over to norida beach and again was lovely. A little more families in this one and appeared more compact around the pool area.spoke to Emily animation team who again was most helpful and could tell she loved her job. Had lunch in the buffet restaurant and the food again so much choice. Met the management of blue domes and so happy to help and please clients. Thank you for a wonderful holiday and see you very soon. I will send all of my clients to your hotel and know they will be fully satisfied.

Room Tip: Block 700 really good location these are bungalows

After reading other reviews we booked this hoping it would be good....and were not disapointed. It was amazing, we did book a transfer bus which took forever to leave the airport but this was nothing to do with the hotel. As soon as we arrived - gone midnight - they took our bags and fed us in the main resturant. Then took us by buggy with our drinks to our room which was 5 star, slippers, dressing gowns and a fully stocked mini bar with beer, soft drinks and water which was restocked daily free of charge. We were a few steps away from the pool outside which had lots of sunbeds. We went in May and it was lovely warm. The main resturant had so many food choices that every diet is catered for, fresh meat and fish cooked all the time and pizza ovens outside. There was also the six cafe/resturants by the pool that served lunch and dinner which never seemed to shut with so many dishes to choose from and drinks brought to the table. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. We never waited more than 3 minutes before having our drinks orders taken or being checked on. Bar one evening in the italian themed resturant where the lady wasn't very good and we waited a long time for everything however the food was still good. There are little touches to everything - shots of the countries liquer at the end of your meal, welcome baskets of bread/olives etc when you arrive. we are keen to go back, but only hesitate as it would be so busy! We hired a car which was dropped to the hotel door and picked up for us, everything you need can be catered for. Lunchboxes when you go out just had to request them. We had some trips out but you could stay within the hotel walls and be perfectly happy every day. Our room was lovely, bath/shower and seperate toilet and shower. Massive bed changed daily and room cleaned. We utilised the safe and just kept everyting in there.
My partner and i would strongly reccomend this place. Only drawback is people put towels on the sunbeds ridiculousy early in the morning. Some days we struggled but always managed to find a pair by one of the pools. beach was literally a gentle stroll from our room with water sports/pedalos for guests. Having read nearly all the reviews before we booked it - this was our first holiday together - i would say anyone who had major issues probably caused them themselves, all the other guests were relaxed and comfortable, the staff were always polite and smiling. They bent over to make sure our stay was good, any mistakes were instantly rectified. If you are in any doubt don't hesitate to book this. we are mid-twenties and enjoyed the atmosphere but it was never too loud apart from a few guests who were soon quietend down by the staff in a polite/gentle manner. We are looking to go back soon if not this year with our daughter as well then next year as we think she (age 5) would love it too.

Room Tip: Ground floor normal suites don't have private balconies.

Best Hotel ever we have my wife and I
Really everything was perfect : the food, the place of the hotel, such beautiful hotel during the night with those lights. And the staff from the restaurant and the beach bar. Thank you to Nikos & Christina, they are always nice with us :)
We found the animation good during the day but during the night it was so boring really We wanted to talk about this to their cheef animation but we didnt get the time to tell him. We only liked the Lion King show & specially the Monkey Rafiki. Thank you to Sam, I really enjoyed to play with him in Football, such a funny and nice guy. Don't change and welcome to conventry like I told you hehe :)

Otherwise everything was perfect and we convince you to book at Blue Domes Mitsis.

THANK YOU MITSIS :)

Just returned from one week of holiday at Mitsis Blue Domes Resort & Spa. It's a fantastic resort - both for families and couples who's looking for luxury. Very nice rooms, staff is service-minded and the restaurants are good. And if you are travelling with children they will love the pancakes for dessert at the creperie (gelateria)!

Room Tip: Room 667 is close to the beach - we will go for same room next time
