“Fantastic family holiday”
Reviewed 8 November 2013 via mobile

We returned from a week at this hotel at the end of October and what a great week it was. Helped by the fantastic weather the hotel was a real treat for us. The suite we had was generous and spotlessly clean, with our own ensuite, the kids had their own bathroom and a sliding door divided the two sleeping areas nicely.

All the staff were friendly and couldn't be more helpful. It was the end of the season, but you didn't get the feeling that anything was too much trouble.

The food was good and had a great selection for both the adults and the our kids.

The children went the kids club most days (which was an unexpected bonus) and had a great time doing all sorts of different activities, including going out on the pedalows.

The only downside for us was the swimming pools being a bit on the chilly side and being salt water. But the sea was a lovely temperature and the beach was nice too.

We had a great week and would happily return but would go earlier in the season as apparently we had unseasonably good weather and I wouldn't want to risk it being rainy.

Stayed for last two weeks of Greek holiday season. (23c-28c)

Arrived in the dark so unsure about view until opening the curtains the next day and ........WOW, lovely pool right in front of us and a nice view of the sea and other pools to the right.

Room was nice, bed was hard but bearable, bathroom needed some attention (too much silicone filler) and furniture (cheap MDF) was not up to 5 star standard but all in all it was very clean.

Food in restaurant was wonderful the first week, with roast suckling pig, pancetta, giant prawns and roast duck amongst others on the carvery. 2nd week food went downhill, as I suspect the hotel was on wind down. Still a good selection, but quite basic and you could tell that some of the food was from the day before and was reformed with another dish and reheated.

The hotel itself was very nicely laid out, very large complex with plenty of room for everyone. Unfortunately none of the pools are heated including the indoor one. I think they are reliant on the sunshine (which doesn't reach a high enough temperature at this time of year) to heat them.

Bar areas were very good inside and out, with a good selection of wines, spirits, cocktails etc.

Entertainment (comedy night) was dire as one lady put it as she was coming out of the amphitheatre, so we went in to double check, only to find that she was dead right. The World Dance night was just the same. P.S. the amphitheatre is very close to the sewage fall out and was very smelly (hate to think what it would be like in peak season at 40c).

The bar, kitchen and restaurant staff were all brilliant and very pleasant and polite and you couldn't ask for the wrong thing.

The hotel is absolutely spotless and a special mention is needed to all of the cleaning staff for keeping it this way.

Overall we went for a relaxing 2 weeks in the sunshine with good food and drink and that's what we got.

P.S. this hotel is on the main incoming flight path and may put some people off especially in the peak season.

Room Tip: Rooms 240-245, high floor, for central location

Although I am pleased you enjoyed the view from your balcony, as well as, the service we are providing, and the quality of drinks, I apologise that you didn't enjoy the food on the second week of your stay. I visited Royal Porto Bello with my family, my Kids 14 and 6 years old and we had a great time. The hotel is situated right on the beach with a great choice of water sports and activities to do.

Our rooms were overlooking the beach and we also enjoyed the pools which were right outside our room. You feel very spoilt there because there are so many pools to choose from and the kids loved it.

It's an all inclusive hotel but with so much choice when It comes to restaurants, we loved the Taverna serving fresh fish everyday and the Italian restaurant with its fantastic choice of pastas and pizzas. Breakfast a real treat.....so much choice.

Overall we had a great time and we were very much looked after by the staff.

We will definitely be back as the whole family enjoyed our holiday. Thank you Porto Bello for a great time!!!

Special thanks to the staff of the bar of the main lobby for looking after us almost every afternoon while enjoying our cocktails and the great view

We loved our holiday at the Porto Bello Royal Atlantica and would definitely go again. My parents have been going for years and recommended it to us and I have to say it didn't disappoint. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and really couldn't do enough for us. The complex is spread out over a large area with many swimming pools so it feels spacious and guests aren't on top of one another. The food was amazing, there was something for everyone, even our fussy toddler. There was a kids club, free sea kayaking, pedallos, table tennis, salsa classes, yoga, tennis, boules, volleyball etc the beach was right in front of the hotel. The hotel was quiet which suited us but for guests looking for more excitement, there was a courtesy bus to the local town. The only downside to this hotel was (i) the outdoor saltwater pools weren't heated so, being end of season, they were a little too cold for some to swim in (ii) it was in the flight path so there was some noise from overhead planes. Neither of these things particularly bothered us though and wouldn't put us off returning again in the future, loved it!

Just back from a 11 day stay 23rd Oct,was just perfect as near end of season and hotel only a third full,so more attentive staff for your every whim.was here 5 years ago and this is why we returned,We upgraded to deluxe with sea view-his & hers gowns and sandals,tea/coffee facilities, stocked fridge every day, wine & fruit and a lovely air con room.all staff excellent and restaurants were of good quality,we are fussy foodies but this was a good selection, slight downside was the lobby bar evening entertainment (yawn)! maybe end of season syndrome but we still need entertaining. we went as a couple as our kids are grown up so can't review the family experience, can definitely recommend this hotel and will return without a doubt.

Room Tip: tea/coffee facilities should be standard in a 5 star and first time here I told them, however we upgr...

Arriving at 2:30am and walking into the Hotel I noticed one of the five illuminated stars was out leaving four to shine in blue and I thought perhaps this is an omen. It turned out to be spot on. I think this is a very nice hotel and warrants the Thomson 5T but it’s a 5T in Greece and perhaps wouldn’t be even close in other parts of the world.

Let’s go with the negatives first. It’s under the flight path into Kos airport so if you don’t like being under a flight path then find another hotel. Now, it’s not like being at Heathrow but they do come in very early a-clock some days. Only 1 of the 13 pools is fresh water and they are all very cold. The food can be a little poor at times, but just a little. The beach is OK but stray a few yards either side and it’s very dirty, loads of rubbish. Also, it may say only 15 minute transfer but everyone I spoke to was annoyed as PBR was not the first drop off so it was neared 45 minutes…and you drive back past the airport which is irritating. No tea and coffee in the room which isn’t a major problem but on a Platinum it really should be.

Now the positives. Staff are Fantastic, really, really made the difference. The Hotel was spotlessly clean, the room very nice, the position close the beach great (don’t look up!) The food was fresh and varied (95% of the time) and the wine & beer very nice. Being able to change restaurants was nice and the lounge bar comfortable. Pool bar girls were brilliant.
We went towards the end of the season when the hotel was half full (or is it half empty?) and we had no problems with getting a sun lounger or getting into the restaurant but once or twice I noticed people queuing to get a table. I can’t imagine how busy the PBR is at the height of the season and often thought I would not want to find out.

I enjoyed my time at the PBR but I’m afraid the final question is ‘would I go back’ and the answer is regrettably no but I do thank the Staff for working hard and being so nice.

We originally booked the portobello beach hotel which was next door but as the hotel was closing early we were upgraded to the royal. We arrived early hours from a night flight but only 15 min transfer. We walked into the reception and wow very impressive. Ross checked us in quickly and was very polite giving us everything we needed to know. The room was a twin with a large double and a single and was spotlessly clean. The view from the room was lovely overlooking a pool and the sea. Aircon available and a fridge which had some water and rolls in. Food was amazing in the ambrosia restaurant there was plenty of choice for everyone. İt was always hot and fresh brought out regularly. Plenty of cold salads and different breads & rolls. Desserts too tempting no good if your on a diet!!! We enjoyed breakfast too but as we were only there a week didnt get to sample everything. The asian & italian restaurants are a must just book the day before. İce cream parlour must be sampled too. The beach bar did a selection of rolls we loved the toasties. Entertainment we missed as got no further than the bar listening to man playing and singing each evening. Cocktails are a must to try and thanks to george the bar waiter always polite and very efficient. The hotel has shop and spa centre too but a week wasnt long enough to use everything the hotel has to offer. The planes didnt bother us either as the hotel on flight path. Would definately recommend this hotel just wished we had booked longer. This was our first visit to greece and was impressed with the friendly people on kos and would love to go back.
