I returned this morning from Kos and i have never posted reviews of hotels but thought I would for the so called 5 star Atlantica Porto Bello Royal. On first impressions the hotel looked fantastic with great reception, bar and terrace areas, however when we were given our room allocation we found this to be at best a 3 star room which although was spotlessly clean was basic and tired with little storage. The pool areas are great and well maintained however there are only two bars to service the 16 pools, one located on the beach and one near to the main restaurant which I would consider to be inadequate for the size of the place. The staff are generally very helpful particularly in the beach bar. There are a choice of main restaurant, Italian and Asian for evening meals, the Italian was our family favourite, we also went to the Asian which served great food, however I would describe the service as speed eating 5 courses served as fast as the staff can put it in front of you and get you out the door in under 50 minutes!. The main restaurant serves a good selection of food which was not of a 5 star standard. I travelled with my 7 year old daughter and found very little to occupy her other than two hours in the kids club during our second week.
The entertainment is shockingly bad from the terrace area were there is a tone deaf singer who plays the keyboard like Les Dawson ! And in the theatre where we went to three shows and walked out a short time after they began, again expected better fro a so called 5 star. We opted o go into Kardemenia a few time rather than sitting in a lounge area with no atmosphere.

I never usually take any notice of reviews and always like to make up my own mind, but wish I had headed the negative reviews listed for this hotel.

If you are looking for a hotel where you lay at the pool all day don't mind walking a distance to get a drink, don't want to be entertained , then this is the place for you !

My wife and I spent two weeks all inclusive in this hotel with the intention of just relaxing and doing very little. We had a junior suite ( room 310 ) which was terrific. It was right outside one of the pools, was very comfortable with everything working - especially the air con as the weather was fantastic.

The staff everywhere were friendly and attentive. The food and drink in the all inclusive package were excellent. We dined in two of the special restaurants - Asian and Italian and enjoyed them too.

Only slight criticism would be lack of shade - what umbrellas there were seemed see through and there just weren't enough of them. Sun loungers might have been an issue if everyone decided on the pools rather than the beach - I really don't understand why hotels don't go over the top and have excess amounts to avoid the up early and towels out issue.

Wifi was advertised but not very good - I rarely managed to get on and it was very slow - but shouldn't be doing that on holiday anyway ;-)

Room Tip: Junior suite was great for the extra space

The hotel is visually stunning, the main lobby is immaculate. The NHS should hire the cleaners because I've never seen a place so some clean, no finger marks or dried drink stains on any of the tables, the sofas are spotless and none of the mirrors or glass had any finger marks; The same goes for the rooms and the rest of the hotel, although there is toilet near the ice cream bar which for some reason doesn't have any lights (or they don't work), which makes for an interesting experience when trying to find the toilet in total darkness.

The biggest asset for the hotel is the staff, nothing is too much trouble for them. From the management down everyone was cheerful, polite and friendly; I've got to give a special mention to Katrina in the main restaurant who was just brilliant, always happy and bubbly.

The hotel doesn't use wristbands instead you get a paper card with the hotel logo on and just a message on the back saying to show it at all places, although nobody asks to see it, which is rather brave as anyone could walk into the hotel and enjoy the facilities and catering for free.

The quality and range of food was great!! Breakfast was brilliant, the bacon was lovely, the fried bread wasn't overly greasy and the hash browns went down a treat. For those of you not into the full English style breakfast you had a wide continental selection along with cereals. Lunch and evening meal where just as good with a wide range of foods to cater for all tastes, each night there was something different and even the most fussy eaters would struggle not to find something. My only recommendation would be better signage on the foods as some had signs and others did not, for example some of the meat dishes weren't labelled so you didn't know what meat was used, not good for people who can't eat certain meats and none of the desserts had labels.

If you want a relaxing holiday where you don't need to get up at stupid hours to secure a sun bed this is the place for you. There is plenty of sun loungers, even in the afternoon, great if you want to spend the morning on the beach and the afternoon around the many pools.

The beach was great, plenty of sun loungers, wooden walkways, and sand bags in the sea to walk on so you avoid any rocks. You can use the pedalo's for free, but it can get busy with a queue at certain times of the day. The Waterpark is just a few minutes' walk from the hotel entrance and great way to spend either a morning or afternoon, just a note you can't take food or drink into the park and it isn't part of the hotel all inclusive package, but for 10 euros you can't complain.

WiFi is provided for free, though be warned it is very slow and from personal experience around 75% of the time it is unusable due to the slow speeds, e.g. it took around 5 minutes to load Google on some occasions. But when you could get onto the internet the coverage around the hotel was brilliant, we managed to connect around the beach, poolside and our rooms.

One of the only downsides for the hotel is the lack of evening entertainment, it was either the theatre which is away from any bars, or the main lounge which predominately consisted of a man playing a piano. There didn't seem much for the teenagers on an evening so maybe a pool table or a small games room could be something to look into.

The gym was fine although the equipment is starting to look a little dated, maybe an area for improvement in the future.

Yes there is a little noise from aircraft but don't let this put you off.

This is definitely a five star hotel and brilliant for a relaxing holiday.

We, my partner and out 2 young children stayed here for a week in 2011 and we loved it!!! The staff from the pool attendant to the recepionists were all wonderful and they were 5 star!!! All very helpful and mannerly with a smile! I have been looking at booking a holiday for next year as 2011 was out last holiday and we have decided to go back to the Porto Bello Royal as we still talk about the boat trip around the Island and the trip to Bodrun as well as those pools!!! We had a room at the back of the Hotel with a sea view and if we could change anything it would be the room to the front of us as they had pool access so next time as this means we could go for a swim straight from the room at night while the children slept and the other partner watched from the Balcony and vice versa. We had a fabulous holiday in Kos and loved everything about it, the only downside was having to leave so soon so 2 weeks next year!!! Thank you all!!! xxxxx
PS the Hotel had ethernet,
and Wifi in the Hotel but not in the rooms.

Room Tip: If you love to swim then get a room with direct pool access so you can literally go from your room t...

Stayed here for two weeks with my girlfriend. The food is excellent and this is probably where it gets the 5* from. Hotel looks amazing, probably the best looking hotel I have stayed in. What lets this hotel down is the lack of evening entertainment I am afraid. We watched 1 show in the Theatre and this was the worst show I have seen in a hotel. I've stayed in 2* hotels with better shows! The whole theatre thing doesn't work either, there is no bar so why would you want to spend the evening there? Why don't they dispose of one of the pools and have its own stag by the pool bar? However, we did enjoy the piano man, thought he was really good.

Italian restaurant was our favourite, followed closely by the Greek restaurant. Rooms were okay, but we only was in our room to sleep so wasn't bothered with what they looked like. However, the lack of English channels annoyed us a little when we relaxed before dinner time.

Apart from that we enjoyed our two weeks but probably wouldn't go back due to the entertainment issues.

now let me start by saying im not one to bore you with what the soup was like on my second day of the holiday, or how the the bar lady had her fringe thursday afternoon, so if thats is what your after, please stop reading now!

first of all, check in. this was handled smoothly and superbly, i am even considering recommending my local post office send there staff here for training, as they may be able to process my many weekly parcels a lot more efficiently. the silver fox who checked me in went by the name nikos, and as he checked me in, my wife checked him out, he was such a lovely character, so full of whim and charm, and even cracked a topical joke which i enjoyed and also found myself chuckling to through out that evening.

we were then whisked away to our room by manolis in his speedy little golf buggy, i felt like the pope in his pope-mobile, the service was first class. he even stopped to pick my wife a wild flower that was growing in the beautiful hotel gardens, and made a comparison to how the wild red of the petals matched her ginger barnet, she was ever so taken a back and flattered.

we entered our room, which i had decided to upgrade to a suite to celebrate the day that i divorced my first wife and met my current wife, and boy did that score me some browine points with the current wife. we had an amusing picture of some animals playing poker on the wall, and i thought to myself they dont even have aposable thumbs, how is that even possible!? but that was just one of the homely touches in the room, and i also like how the maid decided to rearrange my collection of rare vintage flip flops on a daily basis in a different order which certainly gave me and the wife something to converse over when we retired to the balcony for a spot of pimms. the room was of ample size, i imagine a small gypsy tribe would have had plenty of room to squat in there if their current land site was taken away from them

the food in all of the restaurants was, to put it simply, food-a-licious (dont care if its not even a word, it sums up my emotions) there was such a wide variety every single day, my only complaint would be the plates were too small for my hearty appetite. i also enjoyed the fact there was an on site ice cream parlour which i could help myself to, a stark contrast to when i was younger and mother only let me have ice cream if i helped bathe grandma on a sunday evening.

the staff around the hotel were nothing but delights to meet, i do have a few special mentions;
first of all the restaurant manager, i never did catch his name so i shall refer to him as simon for this review. he ran his restaurant how i imagine mo farah runs marathons, efficiently, sensibly and well planned out. i never did see him smile, but that was a good thing as he always looked like he was thinking up new ways to to rearrange the knives and forks. three cheers for simon.

next is a special lady who goes by the name jo, the thomson rep. on the third day of my holiday my wife was taken aback to realise she had left her favourite brand of custard creams at home, and she selflessly drove to the supermarket and got her some. she was also a whizz when it came to setting up my wifi, so i could read over the daily minutes from local neighbour hood watch meetings i had left mr jenkins in charge of in my absence. i left her my blue peter badge as a token of my appreciation for her help through out our stay.

a final shout out to the bar staff through out the hotel. now being a person who suffers from ocd, i emailed the hotel a week before i arrived to let them know all of my ice cubes must be perfect squares, and low and behold, every one was! i shared multiple jokes and puns with the whitty bar staff up in the lobby bar, and they always kept my gin and juice topped up to perfection.

we did the thomson day out to the volcanic island of nyssiros, which was a blinding treat, the guide ester was amazing, i was half tempted to leave my wife in the volcanic crater and make ester the 3rd mrs jasper trumpington, but alas, she managed to climb out.

a minor niggle of my holiday, although not down to the hotel. you get one bunch everytime you go away, and they are commonly known as complaining clives. you know the type, the ones who seem to get more satisfaction out of moaning the grass isnt soft enough or that the sea isnt as blue as in the photos etc, rather than actually enjoying themselves. a prime example being people saying the hotel was not 5 star, complaining they didnt have a kettle in the room and such. if the hotel does not advertise such facility then please realise it will not be provided, do a bit of research before you come away like i do, and if a missing kettle is the reason you believe a hotel should be downgraded from a 5 star to a 4 star then you seriously need to be banned from coming on holiday.

one final shout out is to my homedawg spiros, the hotel shuttle bus driver. he made my escapes into kardamena to go disco dancing with all the young chicks away from my wife that much easier with the frequent free coach they put on 8 times a day, you saved me many a time over the 2 weeks.

so all in all, id give this holiday a special golden star, a rating of 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 and high five for awesomeness.

i have already recommended mr jenkins take a well earnt break here after he covered my neighbour hood watch shifts and had to deal with those ruffians down on brook lane after they gratified rudes words all over the childs play den in the park. he deserves it, and the hotel is just the place you can get away to and relieve yourself of the stresses of chorley.

thank you and good night

Room Tip: all the good rooms and a bed and a door
