“Good Food.......poor service lets it down”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Myself, husband and our 3 children stayed here for 2 weeks may/June
On arrival we were checked in quickly and taken to our room by buggy, we were shown the way back to the restaurant to have a bite to eat (at 12am), there were some cold meats, cheese and moussaka - enough to put us on till breakfast.

You have to pay a deposit for the air con which we were suprised at being an AI hotel.

We were in the experience part which I must say is the nicest part of the hotel - the only part that could justify anywhere close to a 4 star rating (although id still say 3 star)

Food was lovely - bit repetitive after 2 weeks, the kids loved the pancakes in the morning

Alcohol was very poor, spirits and liqueurs very weak, lager wasn't too bad

Kids club was ok until we learnt a member of staff had been swearing infront of the children which we reported

After our first 3 days a group of around 40 children on a school trip appeared from Czech Republic. The whole place then descended into chaos. You couldn't get round the pool, the bar staff couldn't cope with the extra demand (although they could have put an extra bar member on!.....) they took over the mini disco (aimed at younger children these were about 15/16 nearly stamping all over the toddlers)
The teachers were getting drunk 24 hours a day and the kids were kicking each other's doors in! Not what you expect for a family holiday

The Caberet show was abismal the worst I've ever seen. The Michael Jackson night was much better

Luckily we got a car for a couple of days and went touring the Island which I highly recommend especially driving to Kefalos it's beautiful!

Most of the staff were really lovely but we got the feeling they weren't treated very well by the hotel. I agree with most others about the reception staff disgusting and rude especially the curly haired woman with glasses and George who nearly ran us over with his buggy!!

All in all it was ok but would not return

Travelled: 18th-25th June 2014
Party: 3 adults
Agent: First Choice

This is my review of Akti Beach Club.
Check In - Friendly reception staff and fast check in. We arrived at just before 2pm and lunch closes at 2.30 so when we arrived we were advised to go for a quick lunch and complete check in after which we did. Check in does seem to not be very consistent though as we spoke to a couple who arrived at the same time and they were given a map and had to find the rooms themselves, whereas we were driven in a buggy with our cases but didn't get a map of the resort which would've been handy!
Rooms - Our room was in Klio block which is located at the further end of the complex, kind of behind the tennis courts (I have loaded a map we were room 1455). It was a manageable distance to everything once you got used to it but we did end up getting a bit lost the first few times! The room was an ok size, wouldn't describe it as spacious but as it was only a week we coped without too much difficulty!
The rooms were always cleaned to a high standard and the whole resort was very clean. We had a problem with the shower the first day but then the shower head was replaced pretty much as soon as we reported it! We did have one hour one evening when the whole hotel had a water cut off but as it didn't last long it was fine.
Food and Drink - Great! Food buffets big and lots of choice, Chinese, Italian and grill live cooking sections for all lunch and dinner times, grill section was varied and had fish, chicken, pork, lamb koftas. etc. Stir fry and spring rolls cooked fresh on the Chinese station and fresh pizzas and pasta always going out on the Italian station. There was also loads of salad options, bread and hot food counters which were replaced frequently. Desert section included various cakes, sometimes jelly and cream pastries and lots of fruit. At breakfast there was live cooking of eggs and pancakes as well as a hot counter and breads, yoghurt and fruit.
By each of the pools there were snacks available ( normally from about 10.30 - 6pm), burgers, chicken kebabs and hot dogs and as much ice cream as you could want!
Drinks could be flowing all day if you want! Bars by each of the pools (some had self serve soft drinks), the bar by the main pool turned into the main bar in the evening with an inside section and big screen (for the footy while we were there!). The bar at the rectangular pool is open in the evening for the show duration and there was a bar near our block and the gym/ping pong table. There is always coffee and biscuits in reception too!
Location - Kardamena walkable from the hotel in about 40-50 minutes, just turn right when you reach the beach road out the back of the hotel. There are lots of bars, restaurants and shops in the town. There is a supermarket just out by the beach near the hotel and also an on-site shop.
Entertainment - The animation team worked hard (especially Kim and Kiki from Holland/Tui). There were daily activities around the main pool but not always as organised as we have experienced in other all inclusive hotels. I enjoyed taking part in morning stretching, aquagym most days and Zumba every other afternoon. They always had nets up around the pool (supposedly for Water Polo) but we never saw it taking place the whole week we were there. Evening entertainment a bit hit and miss. There was a Madonna show and Mamma Mia performance that was very good but a couple of others were a bit disappointing and dragged on a little bit. There was also supposed to be a fire show on one night we were there but had to be cancelled because of windy weather.
First Choice - When we arrived we were supposed to receive an invitation to a welcome meeting which we never got. It was only due to ourselves finding the agent information box that we were able to get that. Dan the rep was friendly though and didn't give us the hard sell on trips or anything, some more information about the hotel would've been good particularly on the first day of the holiday. He did say First Choice had had a problem with the hotel not giving out welcome meeting invitations before.
Excursions - Definitely worth shopping around. We did a trip to Nissyros which I would recommend. To go with First Choice was EUR 50.00 pp and this was slightly awkward times (dep 10.00 am back at hotel 19.00), but walk to Kardamena harbour and there are at least 2 organisations offering the same trip - we booked on to one that charged EUR 55 for all three of us!

Suggestions - All in all a good hotel and enjoyed our week's stay. Would be helpful on arrival to have a map and a few bottles of water in the room would be appreciated. The entertainment could be improved by more organisation of the daytime activities and the quality/repetitiveness of some of the evening shows.

Room Tip: If you have three adults and are staying longer than a week I recommend booking a larger room than s...

This hotel should not be a 4 star it should be a 2 star. My wife and i had one week here nothing in the room worked. The fridge did not work, phone did not work and the air con did not work properly.
The hair dryer was cracked and dirty there was bugs in the light fittings and the lamp shades was all stained. We complained to the reception staff every day of our stay and nothing was done even when they said it would be fixed that day but how could it they didn't even take our room number.
One of the days my wife was in the shower and the water stopped running we went to reception and told them and they said it had stopped running through out the hotel but it should be back running in 40 minute and there was no problem but this happened at night time how was the kitchen staff going to clean the plates with out water.
The shows at night put on by the animation team was poor quality and they kept on hurting them selves and ending up on crutches. The toilets through out the hotel were dirty and full of bugs. The only plus side was the food.Even on our last day at breakfast one of the staff said can i change the table so we had to leave with out finishing breakfast.
So this hotel should not be a 4 star.

Room Tip: Stay well away

We've just returned from a week long stay here, the hotel was lovely, don't think the pictures do it justice at all!

We didn't arrive at the hotel until about 1am, we were seen to quickly and given our keys with brief instructions on how to find our room and we were then left to our own devices.. took a while to find if as sign posts weren't very clear and it was pitch black.

The room was lovely, however, the pictures do make it seem bigger than it is, the bathroom is also small (remember not to flush toilet paper down the toilet!). The bed is very uncomfortably though, the mattress and pillows are rock hard, resulting in two very sore necks by the end of the week!

Reception staff are helpful, however as said by others they can be a bit rude and short with you if you have a complaint/query.

The food was good and always had a wide selection of mains and desserts to choose from, there is only one drinks machine in the buffet so there was sometimes a wait for your drinks. The main buffet room was closed outside meal times, which meant if you needed a drink during the day you would have to walk down to one of the pool bars, which wasn't too far but a bit inconvenient when you didn't want to be near the pool.

The hotel shop was quite expensive too and I noticed that a few times they would charge you more than the stated price, but due to the language barrier we were reluctant to challenge them, however, we went on a few trips out of the hotel and in the town centres everything was a lot cheaper.

We only went to see the entertainment one night, it was advertised as Cabaret, however, when we arrived it wasn't Cabaret at all, more like a comedy show aimed at the children so we decided to bypass this for the rest of the holiday.

While there we went on a couple of excursions booked through Thomson, I'd definitely recommend the Discover Kos trip if you're into history, saw some amazing sites and learnt a lot about Ancient Greece and mythology. We also went to Nisyross and into the crater of the Volcano, was an excellent experience however very smelly and the bus ride was terrifying, but well worth it!

Altogether an excellent holiday, I would recommend it to anyone and would definitely return! :)

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1654, was at the back of the hotel.. had a limited view of the sea to the left and...

Just returned from 2 weeks at Akti & had a super relaxing holiday. Rooms are spotless & beds/towels changed daily. Food is excellent & so much choice that even the fussiest of eaters will put weight on!!! Wine, beer & spirits perfectly acceptable :) Restaurant staff are great & work non stop to ensure great service. Animation team were great, very friendly & made our 5 year old boys holiday by involving him in activities during the day (cheers Adrian,Lukas,Riccardo,Kim,Kiki,Patricia, Esther & the team). The hotel bus was always on time for the short drive to & from Kardamena. Mosquitos no problem providing you are sensible & use repellant in the evening. 3G football pitch is available for use twice a day along with Tennis courts (10 euro deposit for equipment). Free pedalos on the beach too. If you are looking for a quiet family holiday with excellent food then look no further. Will definately return.

This was a fab hotel, really clean and the staff were friendly and always ready to look after you. The food was good, and as I don't eat meat, I thought I might struggle, but no, there was always plenty to choose from. The restaurant staff were exceptional. A superbly run team, and so friendly and helpful. The manager ran a tight ship, all credit to him. I did not expect such great service to be honest because of the large number of people they had to deal with at every meal.
Thanks to all of you.
The pools and grounds are beautiful, with great views of the mountains.
Overall I think with a little work they could go for five stars in the future. *****

Room Tip: Our room was 811. Good sized room but not the best of views from the balcony to front (a tree) but c...

As all-inclusives go it has both good and bad points. Most things have been said so just a summary from my experience.

Good Points
Food is very good for an all inclusive, including snacks which are available virtually 24 Hours
Staff are very friendly and accomodationg
Rooms are adequate if small although there are some issues (mentioned later)
Free bus into town is useful (although the town itself is very run down)
Coffee available 24 Hours in reception areas
Wine is acceptable

Bad Points
Not a very good beach
Not enough shade around pools
Poor quality spirits
Beds very hard and uncomfortable
Paying for safe - unusual in an all inclusive
Smoking is allowed anywhere except in reception and inner parts of dining room, which means there is nowhere to sit in shade without being forced to put up with others smoking.
No Bar in the main reception which is the only place air-conditioned at night.
Cannot get a drink after 12PM (even to buy !!!) unless you walk out to mikes bar - about 5 mins along beach road.
Typical Greek Mozzie hell, you will be bit no matter what as no pest spraying is done at all.

Cannot comment on the entertainment as we did not go, however i suspect it was usual entertainment staff fare.

We stayed in the 'Experience' section which had the best bar and pool area in my opinion and most guests staying in the main part did not seem to know about it so was usually quieter with a regular crowd sat around the bar on the stools.
The staff in this area were excellent as well Nikos, George and Katrina who really made the stay enjoyable.

Enjoyed the stay but would not go back, the poor greek economy means everything is too expensive outside the hotels.

Room Tip: The experience section is nice if you want to be in a mostly adult environment.
