“memorable experience,excellent staff,great service!”
Reviewed 5 June 2013

To be honest, having visited Kos Island in the near past, I had great concerns about choosing the island once again, since I was left with a disappointing feeling back then. Never visited Kardamaina though... So last week I decided to follow my instinct, give it another try and... yes, " ASTERAS RESORT" didn't prove it wrong..

I was warmly welcomed by Agnes and Maria in reception, and lead directly in a beautiful, sunny and immaculately clean room, without having to wait a second. Ideally located close to the bars, clubs and restaurants (only a short walk along the beach until you reach the town), with the beach being only 150 away from the hotel, I didn’t have to worry about anything, as everything one needs was handy. The food is quite greek traditional oriented, with a great variety of salads and of course desserts (that was the best part if you ask me, as I am a chocolate lover!!). But the most important thing in “Asteras” is its staff….Everyone was smiling, obviously enjoying their job and making you feel at home, while providing the service that a very good 4 * hotel should offer! Nothing was too much a trouble for them. I will never forget these smiley faces of Iro, Alexandros and Nicodimos welcoming me during breakfast/ lunch and dinner time, and Ilias in the Pool and Lobby Bar ( he has his own way to cheer you up, no matter what). There is no doubt that the Manager is making a great job, being visible to his guests ,always interested in taking the feedback out of us…he has managed to combine professionalism with the “feeling at home”, sharing positive energy within his staff and us, and that is the most relaxing thing I could expect!

“ASTERAS” for me is a living proof that beautiful and relaxing holidays have nothing to do with stars.. The building itself and the facilities mean nothing, unless they are provided to you with love and care, it’s the staff that makes the difference!! I left with a big smile, it made me love Kos finally.. I definitely recommend this hotel!!

I stayed from the 12th of May until the 30th. I was very happy with the beauty of the location, the fine cuisine, the service and how willing the staff was to make our accomodation as comfortable as possible. My little one loved the waterslides and the playground and we definatelly enjoyed sunbathing due to the fact that the hotel had clean beach. We also played volleyball after a long time and it was quite fun!!. Seriously I was shocked to see bad reviews for the previous year because it has been significantly upgraded!

We got this hotel fairly cheap so wasnt expecting anything fantastic. We arrive to the hotel at 2am due to our flight being delayed and there was someone to greet us upon our arrival and he allowed us to get some drinks from the drinks despenser... although we could not take the glasses to the room which meant we had no water all night unless we were to drink the tap water.

Breakfast was served from 7:30 and we normally went down about 8:30 and there was still plentty of choice including cereals, breads, buscuits and hams.

Lunch was served from 12:20 - 2:30 there was always a large amount of salads, breads, feta cheese etc. Also meats but non of the meats looked appertising and looked very watery.

Dinner was served from 6 - 9 which was basically the same as the lunch menu but you could sometimes get soup. Deserts was also laid out on a seperate table but this did go fairly quickly.

All inclusive drinks... wine, beer and brandy was the only all inclusive drinks which i didnt think was very good!! any cocktails or other spirt drinks needed to be bought for around 4 euros and milkshakes also needed to be bought! ice cream was served in a 2 hour slot in the afternoon which they had 4 flavours which was all nice.

All in all we didnt think much to the food and it did not change very often and also didnt like any of the all inclusive drinks so spent a fair amount on drinks at the hotel during the day when we spent the day by the pool.

The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the center but this is down a round with hardly any street lights and is scary walking back down in the dark! a taxi is a must if you have been out late in the town centre. Its worth a trip into the town centre as its nice to walk along the harbour but it can get a little roudy later into the night.

Our room was cleaned each day and new towels were left, the room was a good size but the bathroom was very small, our shower curtain was also very dirty and old looking! All rooms had a balcony with chairs and a table which was nice to sit out on at night although if you dont like bugs this is impossible to do!

The entertainment at the hotel was poor and was in Italian which was no good for us!

The pool area was nice and clean and there was just enough sunbeds each day..... but we did go out of the holidays in October and i imagine this could be a problem in August and summer months. The pool snack bag which served sandwiches did not look appealing as there was flies in the small plastic containers where the sandwiches were kept all afternoon.

There was no atmosphere in the hotel on a night so you need to go into the town, there are no shops around the hotel apart from in the center but a taxi to the town only cost 5 euros.

The beach is right next to the hotel but you cant take drinks to the beach so make sure you take water, there are a number of sunloungers you can rent at the beach but the beach is very small and also just off a road.

When we arrived at the ASTERAS resort the first thing we saw was a rude and destuctive paragraph in the comments book and heard other holiday arrivals commenting on it.
We were wary at first and had a few things wrong with our room. When we asked in the reception if they could be adjusted they responded immediately and effectively. We found that all the staff were equally keen to help, very relaxed polite and totally efficient when asked. Our room and the whole complex was immaculately clean and in safe condition some damage caused by previous owners was being repaired at the time .
The food was very Greek with added Italian and other countries but mostly traditional, always an abundance of salads and meat dishes phentiful, well presented and hot, fruit and snacks readily available all day.
The waiters and bar staff appeared to enjoy their work and seemed to enjoy pleasing the holiday makers the owner was often there and ate with the guests asking for feedback and wishing to improve on anything suggested.Even driving guests into town if necessary.
Trips and activities could be arranged through reception and was very efficient and good value .
Beach was easy to get to from the hotel 150m from our room ,clean beach and clear water could not wish for anything else.

Pleasant walk along the beach to the nearest town Kardemena which gave us everything we wanted.Without any hassling or begging

Not once did any one ask for a tip or have any expendancy of one.

The only thing I was disapointed about was the childish behaviour of the other English holiday makers who were not adult enough to say to the staff how to improve but felt the need to write scathing and distructive reviews behind the backs of the owners and staff team

Overal a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday with a very good staff team who genuinely aim to please and help you get the most of your stay.

Room Tip: either take a kettle for your room or ask for one this is Greece not Spain

We just came back from holiday in Asteras resort.
I do not know where to start! Want to cry ,how this can be called a 4 * hotel.
In order to gain linen changed after three days I had to ask at the reception, they not change tovels and sheets only be arranged, pathetic food, bland choice, English breakfast every day, from the remnants they prepared salads or some casseroles, flies fly over a plate of food, no fruit, peach's every three days and a few plums,
On the mattress, thin sheet, no protector and some slimy blankets.
Just an empty bar, everyone in the own house probably has a bigger choice.
Even the water in the bottle its no free, you have to pay .You get 3 bottles in the refrigerator when you came, thats all.One Polish receptionist courteous and helpful, and Jorgos bartender, .When I composed to a Greek receptionist complaints outright with me arguing that such European standards are where anywhere whether in Europe or the Caribbean, tajlandji not experienced it!! wrote this so to save you money Dear reader, because all the people with which I spoke in the hotel complained, even book claims have a uprooted cards !!

Room Tip: Save you money!!!!!don't go to Asteras!!!!!!!!

My friend and I just recently returned from this hotel, we wanted a hotel close to bars and clubs but not right in the centre and this hotel was perfect, just a short walk along the beach into the town and only 6 euro in a taxi back. One thing is that the All Inclusive bar isn't all inclusive. It shuts at 11 then you have to pay after, and there's only wine beer ouzo and brandy for alcoholic drinks, and all soft drinks. The food wasn't too bad, something ediable each evening and during the day. Met some wonderful people during our visit. The manager who's recently taken over the hotel was left in a bad way as the previous owners had ruined everything and he's doing a great job of picking up the pieces.

We loved the slides and the pool area, great to lounge about and relax during the day. Would probably go back in a few years when the manager has got it back up and running again, he has 2 other hotels which are all 4* and he's confident that this will be up to his standards ASAP.

Rooms cleaned daily, not thourghly but it's not disgusting. No tea and coffee making facilities but if you ask reception they will get a kettle for you.

All in all a good hotel going in the right directtion!

Room Tip: Room 115 has a wake up call of a Donkey every morning without fail (won't miss breakfast that wa...
