“An expensive false 4 stars.”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

Good: Good location, in the middle of Kos. Room clean average. Great sea in that zone.
Bad: Beach almost abandoned. Rude staff. If you want to buy something 1 minute later of your all inclusive, you have to pay! Plastic glasses, and most of them broken! Small restaurant and it isn't thr right for a 4 stars! Common areas are careless! No animation! External diving and too expensive for seeing nothing!
In general this is a delusion.
Kos is great but spend time out of this 4 stars resort.

if you are going to this hotel for a good all inclusive drink session . stop . read this first.
It is the first time i have been shocked and totally ripped off by an AI hotel. First the rooms!.---very nice , we had a room facing the pool , small balcony suited my wife and i down to the ground, however that is where the positives end. Got changed into our pool clobber after a 4 hour flight , found a nice bed by the pool , asked my lovely tired wife what she fancied to drink ? vodka and coke came the excited response , no problem pet , back in a minute . standing at the bar , looking forward to a good afternoon , soon turned into despair. 2 vodka and cokes i said to the bar lady who had a face like a little nest of vipers , sorry no spirits or if i do want one- 2-80 euros. When the man standing next to me picked me up from the floor i had to ask again as i thought i didnt quite hear right the first time. the same answer came back-NO SPIRITS. I was given the choice of -beer - wine-ouzo-brandy. thats it like it or lump it. I said ' but this is an all inc hotel ' yeas she replied, you can have have as much -beer - ouzo- wine - brandy as you like, but NO spirits. 2 wines it is then.If that was not bad enough i had to explain to my now totally excited mrs , she had wine , like it or lump it. we started to get fed up with beer and wine so i bought a bottle of vodka from the local shop and made our own vodkas and coke, not something i thought we would be doing in an all inc hotel. other bad points.----- ice cream -- only served from 2till 4-30 . 4-35, and you wont get one. Food.----- what food? horrendous choice on offer. about 8 trays to pick from, all of them were veg, i asked the girl ' wheres the meat' she said that was on in the evening.- say no more, Waiting in a queue to enter restaurant is simply not worth it, go into kardamena for some proper food not the rabbit stuff this so -called all inc hotel serves up. never been so gutted at choices of drink and food in 1 hotel . rooms nice though.hope this review hasnt put people off going. If you are a t-total anarexic who dosnt want to make friends with the staff who work there, and want to keep themselves to themselves , and can only eat ice-cream between the hours of 2 and 4-30 , and who goes to bed every night at 10 ( coz that is when it closes ) you will have a fab time, sadly it was not for us

Room Tip: rooms facing pool were decent

If, like us, you are a group of english teenagers looking for a week long piss up in kardamena - asteras is not for you. We were told by the travel agent it was close to the strip and all the action and was an 1830 hotel, which it definitely was not, we learnt a lesson from booking with cheap online salesmen!

The strip is about a 15/20 minute walk, which is harder than it sounds in the stifling heat or when you are drunk at 5am. We were on of only 2 sets of british teenagers, the whole hotel was European families, many of which complained about us, leading us to be kicked out on our 5th night. The restaurant setup is awful, you wait in a queue for 20 minutes, not being offered a drink, and are then taken to a table and only brought drinks when the waiter comes over (not very often). The food itself was not to our personal taste, spaghetti pie and mushroom and carrot stew etc, out of our 5 days there, 2 meals per day, I saw chicken once and chips once.

Kardamena itself is a good resort and any teenagers reading, hotel seva is definitely the place to go, we ended up there with friends after getting kicked out and it was a 24/7 pissup and full of teenagers, exactly what we wanted! The pool bar at seva is even the main after party place at about 5am.

More then two months we needed to try to rest from the ''rest'' in this ''all inclusive'' 4-star hotel. Thank God we survived.
First, that torture the other guests and we have suffered from Ms called Armada or something, who is the the owner’s niece, we are told. Every day before lunch and dinner she didn't let anybody come into the dinning room, putting big red string on the entrance. The babies, handicapped persons and others standed in the hall waiting in a queue for her to find their room number, walk back and forth in the dining room and talk to the staff for several minutes. Never seen in 30 years.
The third day a water pipe broke, no water, nobody said anything, we got a glass of dirty water, for which of course you had to ask Armada, as well as to drink anything. The result – in 3 days 3 doctors came, sent him to hospital, said he was poisoned. 8 days in bed, no plane to go home, it was our only wish. When we wanted to speak with the chief manager, the red-haired receptionist called our guide to complain. What – didn’t want a poisoned boy in the hotel... Bravo.

Firstly I must say how impressed I was with the Greek Food, we have been coming to Greece 1 to two times per year for the last 10 years and the food in this Hotel is by far the best Greek Food we have ever experienced. If you want burgers and pizza and chips well this hotel does try to oblige but the real effort is traditional food which we all love. One thing to note though this hotel is under new management and the restaurant is a temporary solution as later in the year they are redeveloping a new part of the Hotel with new restaurant etc. The restaurant is workable but seating is numbered so you may have to wait up to 10 minutes for a table at the moment so bare this in mind. A quick tip is to eat outside as you get a table immediately. On reception is Maria and the delightful Agnes with always a smile, if you do have an issue they will fix it promptly we found, in the restaurant the staff work very hard but please speak to them say morning and hello as it goes a long way I was impressed with Iri she tried very hard and we will miss them all. The accommodation is good and the air con works well which is included in the price. Many times we have had to pay extra for air con when we have stayed in a 4 star (Greek) Hotel but not this one. The beach is lovely sand fine and water warm, sunbeds are 2.50 euros each and the Malibu bar is close and useful with toilets a pool and free sunbeds by the pool. Kardemena is in walking distance so not to far for a good walk, we however had a car and visited various locations on the Island as this was our third visit to Kos, those who have not been before I would like to recommend the following:-
1. Go Carts Mamari for Go Carts
2. Paragliding Kardemena Water Sports
3. Visit Mastharti and the beach absolutely stunning location and village
4. Pili in the mountains FAB for shopping and a good Taverna
5. Mamari and Tigaki Beach White sand blue clear sea warm and quite (Perfect)
6. Kos Town for markets and shopping

Furthermore there are a little niggley problems at this hotel and the staff are aware of this and trying to improve so to finalise, if you want English Burger chips and Pizza (we do not eat it) go somewhere else but if you want quality food nothing better than this Hotel. Tell the head chef Amanda ( A little joke) Moving forward we would visit this hotel again and cannot wait to see the new developments later in the year but that aside this worked for us and we are fussy too. I would strongly recommend this hotel based on Great Staff and really good food and location what more can you ask for? So 4 star rating (Greek) 5 star efforts from all staff and food perfect.

Room Tip: Try Main building 3rd floor views of sea are really good.

My partner and I spent a week here in July 2013. The hotel is actually situated very well on the outskirts of the town. The town offers good food and nice cocktails and drink. There is a swimming pool bar down the path way, from the hotel which was our destination every day. It offered drinks at a reasonable price also food. We found this better than the hotel more of an atmosphere. The hotel itself was fine but it lacked something. The evening meal wasn't available until 8pm and all inclusive drinks finished at 10pm. There was no entertainment or activities to keep you there. As the restaurant is small the restaurant could only allow a certain amount, therefore took your room number and when a table was available we were shouted. We ate out 3 nights and most days. The food they offered was really nice but no fast foods it had a lot of sauces. A lady we met struggled as she was gluten intolerant.

Stayed 4 days.

Good parts; Spacious rooms, clean (almost), 7/24 hot water, bathtube, AC was working very well (we were curious about it according to comments we read), very quite-good place to sleep, close to the beach and 15-20 mins walk away from Kardamena town center which is not a big deal, we loved to walk there everyday just right next to the sea. Pool and sliders are not bad but I recommend you to go to town center, there are plenty of excellent beaches and wonderful sea.

Bad: Staff is generally rude and not willing to help you, they are behaving like they are forced to work there, breakfast and food generally was a disaster. Minibar and HK staff never knock the door before entering the room, minibar guy didn't refresh our minibar for 3 days, I cant say they are good at their jobs either but at least they are smiling when they see you. No wifi in the rooms, only available in public areas but its free, rusty taps and dirty floor especially in bathroom, very old furniture.

Asteras Resort is absolutely not a 4 star hotel although they advertise like that, 2 maybe 3 stars, if you are expecting a starred hotel and service, dont book..But compared to what we paid its ok, if its more than 50 EU per night (w/o bf) dont book..Try to book room only (without breakfast or any meal). Lots of restaurants and small eating places serving delicious food in Kardamena town center, I recommend Paradise restaurant, they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner at very cheap prices ( 5 EU for a spagetti with seafood, 5 EU for pizzas or pork chops )
