I stayed at this hotel at the half term holidays at the end of May/early June 14 for 11 nights with my husband and 10 year old daughter. This review will compare to other 4 star inclusinve hotels I have stayed at - at the same time of year and paid a similar price.
This hotel is a 15 min transfer from Kos airport and has many positive featrues - really good staff service everyone is friendly and tries hard to accommodate your requirements as best they can. The gardens and communal areas are well kept and very clean. The hotel is situated on a really lovely sandy beach - which is spotlessly clean and there are plenty of sunbeds and umberellas for everyone. The sea is shallow and you can walk into it for ages and only get up to your waist - it's ideal for young children. The hotel provides free pedalos and canoes at the beach for hotel guests use - these are great fun and were always available. There are also water sports that you can pay for ie. paragliding /Jetskis etc.
At the front of the hotel is the new watepark - which is about a 5 min walk away. As the waterpark is brand new it is spotlessly clean and there are loads of free chairs and parasols available. There are 6 slides and a lazy river for you to try (although the park is not quite as big as I expected). For the youjnger children there is a splash park area. The big slides are aimed at older children (at least 10 yrs) and whilst my 10 yr old daughter went on some of the slides a couple of them did seem too big and too fast for her. Having said that the life guards are very well trained and are very quick to blow their whistle if there are any problems and deal with any incidents immediately and efficiently. You need to pay for any drinks that you have here as it is not part of the all inclusinve deal - but you won't spend a day here - it's not big enough - you will only probably stay an hour or so.
Rooms - are OK - on the plus side - ours was pretty big with 2 balconies and loads of storage space for our clothes and stuff. Down side is that the bathroom is a bit small with a shower over the bath and this is a bit hit and miss - Ok but not great. Also, I found that as our room faced the early morning sun the curtains didn't have blackout blinds - so if the sun was shining - the room was pretty bright very early in the morinigs. Safety deposti box is 35 euros for 2 weeks. Rooms a bit dated - no luxury feel but adequate.
Dining - really lovely food - always a good choice and plenty of variety - breakfast especially good - pancakes etc, although egg cups for the boiled eggs would have been useful. Dining room in the evening opens at 7.00pm - which always seemed really busy - it's a pity the dining room doesn't have a specific kids corner for their food - that has a food counter at the correct height level as the little children seemd to struggle with seeing and getting their dinner.
We had problems with the free WiFi at the hotel - it was really erractc - some days OK other not working so be aware of this - you couldn't always get on line when you wanted to.
The hotel is situated about 10 - 15 mins drive fom Kardemena - about a 30 min walk away. The hotel provides a courtesy bus to Kardemena a few times in the day and at 7.00, 8.00 and 9.00pm at night. Kardamena is Ok - few shops and bars/restuarants etc - nothing exceptional but pleasant enough to visit.
We had a pleasant time here - if I am honest we were a bit diasppointed with some aspects of the hotel - pool area got really crowded and the rooms weren't anyghing special - but the food was surprisingly good and the beach area was absolutley lovely.
I would recommend this hotel - but compared to some others I have stayed at at the same time of year - for the money it's not fantastic - but it is above average. Weather wise we had 2 /3 cloudy days out of our 12 days and had a relaxing and pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Choose a higher up room for a view and ask for a larger room with 2 balconies if available

This is a great 4* hotel. We had 2 weeks here which spanned the May half term week and 1 in term time, so we experienced it at it quietest and busiest.
If you’re about to fly out here, the plane does go directly over the hotel so if you’re on the right-hand side of the plane look down as you come into land – you’ll probably catch sight of the waterpark!
We had a family garden room which was the most spacious room we have stopped in to date. With 2 wardrobes, 2 balconies and a little sofa we were comfortable. On arrival (late night flight) we had 4bottles of water and sandwiches in the fridge. The porter takes the suitcases to the room on the buggy and you can walk (it’s not a large resort). The beds are hard, but to be honest after a few nights of getting used to this we had no trouble sleeping in this quiet hotel. The room was clean, looked freshly decorated, sheets were lovely and thick and towels fluffy. We did ask at reception for a plug for the bath (1 isn’t provided) and this was delivered to our door in 10mins – brilliant. Our room was to the rear of the hotel, overlooking gardens/reception and had a sea view.
The hotel is based on a slope. At the beach there are Kayaks and Pedalos which are free of charge for ½hour per day. The sea is brilliant – very shallow and you can walk out for approx 100m and it’s only chest deep. Loads of fish to see – bring your snorkel and goggles! The sand is soft so good for building sandcastles etc!! The beach bar is of a good size and had ice-cream.
The main hotel pool is sea water – which was brilliant for me to teach out 4yr old to swim in as it’s just so buoyant. The kids did wear goggles and snorkels in this pool, as some days it was particularly salty. When the hotel is in term time loads of sunbeds are available up until 10.30am. During half term people reserved sunbeds before 8am! If you don’t want to join the crazy sunbed reservers, head to the beach and you’ll get a sunbed there anytime! As well as the usual drinks the kids will find cake and cookies here at this bar to help themselves to! There are 2 ladies on the pool bar who work really hard and are always pleasant and polite.
The main restaurant has a good selection of hot and cold food, with the “pizza man” being there every lunch and dinner time. He makes a fab pizza! There is a great selection of breads, olives, salad, fruit, fish, meats veg (even sprouts, cauli, peas and sweetcorn appear) The staff here are always polite and helpful, clearing away quickly. At its busiest you may not find a clean table – but go and find a table that seats your party size, and simply ask one of the staff and they will set it up for you as quick as they can. There are all the drinks on pump here – with decanters on hand so you can fill them up with half a litre of wine and water for the table. There’s also a “bar man” who looks after this area at dinner time and is on hand for all those people who cannot pull half a beer and end up with full froth- funny!
The Italian and Greek restaurants. To book there is a hand written sheet at the end of reception, simply write your name and party size on here 1 day before you wish to go and you’re booked in, I. love the simplicity of this! I enjoyed the Italian, it is buffet but they do a really tasty gnocchi, a good chicken chasseur and a tasty pork dish. One day we were late back from our Volcano Trip and were booked into the Italian – there was no pizza left on the hot stand, but the staff were very helpful and made us our own pizza for the table. Can’t fault them!
Mini-disco and entertainment. The staff here work really hard, are always smiling, laughing and polite. They seem to all get along really well and enjoy their work which comes across when they’re doing the disco and singing at night. The entertainment is mainly singing shows and quizzes, which are all entertaining. This finishes by 10.30pm. The mini disco is situated by the top of the hotel, and has no bar. It is no problem to take a carafe of wine up with you from the restaurant, or a cocktail from the bar. The main issue for me was that there was nowhere to safely leave your empty glass. We took our empties back to the room and the main moved them daily! It can be cool and windy up in the entertainment area so take a few cardigans.
The water park is simply brilliant. It is situated at the top of the hotel away from the beach. There are plenty of chairs here which tilt back for sunbathing. Kids have to be 1.2m tall and then they go on all rides (some with an adult). Although I (female) couldn’t go on the blue/white checked slide with my 7r old as we were not heavy enough and the lifeguard didn’t want us to go down. I prefer them to air on the side of caution and obviously liked not been heavy enough LOL, so this is a dad’s ride! On our very last day our daughter was turned away from 2 rides as they implemented a 10yrs and 12 yrs rule. Not sure if this was a lifeguard decision or a management decision. But the slides with the new age restrictions were 2 of the slower ones so it didn’t make sense. I loved the “sink plughole” ride – it’s brill. The little water park is perfect for toddlers, our 4yr old loved it. The guards here are over-cautious, and implement standard rules such as “don’t run” but remember it’s new to the hotel and they’re just a little health and safety crazy at present. A chap broke his leg while we were there which goes some way to explaining why staff are over-cautious. Good in some ways!
Kardemena is accessible by turning right at the hotel drive at the top by the water park. There are free hotel buses but it is walkable. It’s also a good running route for early morning runners. It’s about 5K return trip, a little further if you run into Kardemena itself. There are a wide variety of bars and restaurants here as well as shops selling niknacks and clothes etc – better than I had thought.
Trips – we did the Volcano Trip. It’s a boat ride over to the Island of Nisyros and then coach tour up the volcano which is very informative and educational too. Our guide was brilliant. You also get free time so can have lunch here where in one of the Tavernas or take a packed lunch from the hotel. It was an expensive trip at 50Euros per adult and 25 per child. The boat trip back over to Kos at the end of the day however was horrendous. The boat dipped and rocked so much that I really thought an accident was going to occur. Apparently it is usually quite rocky between the Islands but the weather turned when we were there and it was extremely windy and raining and made for a really bad crossing. The staff on the boat were moving people to the indoor area, paying particular attention to people with babies and children. Check the forecast before you go and if you’re seasick avoid this trip!

Room Tip: Garden Family rooms are spacious with 2 balconies

What a Fabulous holiday! Highly recommend to anyone looking for an all inclusive break and only a 10/15 minute airport transfer.
Facilities/staff/food/drinks/entertainment for families (like us) are wonderful.
Equally, others such as couples would not find this 'family' hotel too over run with kids as there's so much to do for everyone day and night. When the kids were being entertained, we found it relaxing and enjoyed the peace ;)
Thank you Porto Bello Beach. Will certainly recommend you to family and friends.

fabulous staff. Nothing too much trouble. They all work very long days and 7 days per week, but still smile and chat. Food very good and excellent desserts at every sitting. You certainly will not go Hungary. Can't wait to go back there.

Room Tip: The rooms with a garden view are very peaceful.

Just returned from one weeks holiday along with husband, daughter and two grandsons - could have done with a few more days. Our room (double) was spacious enough and comfortable with 'distant' seaviews and spotlessly clean. Daughter and grandsons room was at ground level and although a little dark, no complaints. The staff are very friendly and helpful and work hard to ensure you enjoy your stay. Food was very good with lots of variety and, although a little repetitive, plenty of choice made sure no-one went hungry. Already planning next years visit!

The rooms are basic & a little dated (our 1st room had no shower head & water went everywhere) but are very clean & comfortable.

Unlike other all inclusive resorts I've stayed in, the food was bland and samey & well below what you'd expect if you visited even a basic restaurant. Don't expect to get fat there! Have some food on the plane or at the airport as the welcome sandwiches are gross. The themed restaurants serve the same food as the main restaurant but in different surroundings.

The pool is huge and very nice, it's saltwater & at this time of the year (May) was quite cold. We never had trouble getting a sun lounger, there's plenty around.

The waterpark was a real disaster. I got the whistle blown at me 30 times a day & I'm 36. So many rules!! 1.2m height limit for ALL slides is mercilessly enforced so if your child is below it,they're not going on! The main 'splash zone' feature (the thing with the tipping bucket on top) doesn't allow adults onto it so that's the toddlers out too!! If you're between 0m-1.2m it's the lazy river for you!!! Oh,even though the waterpark belongs to the hotel, you have to pay for snacks & drinks! Quite disappointing considering it was the main reason for booking.

Fantastic beach, beach bar, complimentary pedalos, kayaks & loungers. Very nice touch.

Entertainment area next to the sewage treatment plant so it stinks but the girls & lad are really good & worked very hard with the limited resources they've got.

Lovely 30 min walk into Kardamena and complimentary buses (with an odd timetable) if your legs can't carry you back.

The staff are fantastic, they can't do enough for you & nothing is too much trouble for them.

Don't bother complaining to last choice though. They've got a bible of standard responses they're happy to quote chapter and verse!

Sort the food & the waterpark and this place will be fantastic.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

We regret your experience wasn’t typical of what the vast majority of our Guest have come to expect from our hotel over the years and sincerely apologize for letting you down.

The Aquatica Waterpark is our new attraction were our guests can enjoy a number of extreme slides and aqua land for the youngest one. The height limit for the extreme slides is 1,20m and this rule must to be strictly follow for the safety reason.

Our working team thank you for your kind words!

We stayed here in mid may and really enjoyed the whole experience. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very relaxed and fun, we traveled with first choice and the holiday rep Dan was absolutely brilliant. He even went on one of the water slides with my partner as I was unable to go down it, he knew everything about the local area and has a board in the lobby with information including your coach times back to the airport so you don't need to worry about anything whilst your there.

There was a large selection of food on offer with 4 different restaurants open at certain points during the day, with Mediterranean for lunch and Italian and greek for diner as well as the main restaurant which offered a selection from all of the restaurants how ever was very busy, for a better atmosphere and no queues we recommend the restaurants. The greek was our absolute fave however they do have restaurant cats so if you don't like animals scrounging for food whist you're eating it might be an idea to steer clear of this, however this didn't bother us as they weren't to for coming in harassing you whilst eating. The queues for the main restaurant tend to die down by 8:30 so if you're not fussed about eating early this shouldn't be a problem.

The pool was a salt water pool which we were not too keen on however this did not stop us from being in it almost everyday. I would recommend goggles as salt water in your eyes is not pleasant but apart from that and the taste it is not as bad as it might sound, the swim up bar was amazing and the bar staff were so friendly through out our whole stay. We found the salt water made us very thirsty so the free drinks were a lifesaver especially as you don't even need to get out of the pool to enjoy them.

The water park was for us the best part of the holiday, with a selection of slides to suit every one, most of them however are two person and we spoke to a few people who were unable to go on some due to being alone, as well as this the floor got really hot and you can't wear flip-flops on the slides so having to take them off at the bottom meant that feet would get blistered on the stairs how ever they were in the process of putting rubber mats down so this might not be a problem in the future we did go just a week after it opened. All the staff here were amazing and so friendly it was pretty empty the whole time we were there so there was no queues for any slides so we got to go on everything as much as we wanted. As for the pool here it is a fresh water pool so this gives you a break from the salt water and is a much nicer swimming experience. The bar is not included in your all inclusive package as it is open to the general public at a cost as well, but this did not bother us as you could take drinks over, and it was so close to the hotel if you need a drink badly you could pop back over.

When we were here the entertainment staff seamed really nice although we barely saw them as they were so busy, there are 7 of them shared between two hotels (the royal being right next door) this meant they were spread really thin but still managed to do an amazing job at organising things, a big thank you to Emily and Lewis for the name that tune quiz which was one of the highlights of the holiday even though we weren't as good as we made out to be at it. On our last night they got in an outside singer and she was awful much preferred the on site entertainment to the outsider.

Our room was really big with two balconies and a seating area, you have to pay €25 for the key per week and the TV only had news channels in english so we didn't watch it at all, when we asked the night porter he joked this was because all we watch in the UK is news anyway. The over all cleanliness of the room was good however on two occasions ants got in to the room and were all over the place but the cleared these away quite quickly, and after we sprayed our own bug spray around the door they didn't come back.

There was a free shuttle bus in to the town the front desk have a timetable for this so you don't need to walk, the hotels private beach was also really nice with an all you can eat ice cream bar and table tennis and volleyball net, as well as water sports, of which the kayaks and pedelos were free and the more extreme things weren't too expensive we went on the giant inflatable sofa and loved every minute of it.

In summery we would recommend this hotel to everyone we had such a good time and were sad to leave, if we ever return to Kos we will stay here again as it was perfect for what we wanted.

Ps The night porter (we can't remember his name) was hilarious and really good for a chat at 1 in the morning he had some hilarious views on the British and made our holiday.
