In the main season, this place is aimed at the 18 to 30's. In sept they sell the holidays off due to low demand, this wasnt clear when we booked online, our room was no 10. We had a packet of biscuits in our bedside drawers, on the second night we noticed the packet had all been chewed, and the drawer was full of black excrement, we got the owner to look, he thought it was a mouse and blamed us, because we had been leaving our door open, that night my wife heard scuffling in the drawers, it turned out to be a cockroach nest "yuk"
So after killing them and removing all the eggs, we didnt sleep very well, the drawers were replaced the next day by the rep.
The entrance to our room had glass windows above the door without any blinds or curtains, at night there is flood lights round the pool, so the light beams in the room so you cant sleep, we had to sellotape newspaper over the glass to screen out the light, the curtains had tears in them and broken curtain hooks so they didnt hang properly. Generally round the room there was crumbling plaster, and dirty marks, and even blood stains on the wall, the light fitting in the kitchen hung dangerously exposing the wiring, there was a broken plug socket in the room bodged up with silicone, there was filth, grime and cockroach droppings behind the kitchen unit.
In the bathroom there was grime and black mould around the toilet, the ballcock on the cistern ran incessantly which kept you awake at night, the shower fixing was broken off the wall, the bathroom door casing was smashed and broken, the window catch was smashed and held up with wire, it could have swung down and hit you whilst you were showering.
Outside in the gardens the lawns were uncut and full of weeds, as were the flower borders, and there was rubbish strewn around the place. Around the pool the sunbeds were filthy and grubby, there was filthy ash trays on the table full of green mould, there was only 4 ramshackled sun brollies to go round 30 sunbeds, which meant you couldnt sit out for more than 1/2 hour in the heat, as you had no shade.
When we arrived we were given a room key with separate electricity key fob, he told us they were separate because the previous occupants had gone home with the keys, after 2 days he came and changed the lock, gave us a new key with electricity key fob joined with a ring with a soft soldered lead joint, after 2 days we noticed the soft lead had cracked, so we left the electricity key in the room whilst we went out for our evening meal, on return we found he had entered our room and changed the key again, as he thought there was a problem, as we had gone out and left the outside light on !
Leaving an outside light on seems like a normal thing to do when you go out at night, we found this intrusive and creepy, that he had gone in our apartment whilst we were out.
When you checkout on the last day, you have to vacate by 12 noon, there is nowhere to store your luggage safely, you cant even get a shower before you travel as the only shower available around the pool is cold water.
I cant comment on the snack food served at the pool bar as we never ate any, I'll let you draw your own conclusions on the food.
When you complain about anything to the owner Nikos, you have to do it in full view of everyone else at the bar, he would be better off, talking to you discretely, once you have complained, thats it, you feel uncomfortable going anywhere near the bar. Nikos is having to deal with the 18 to 30 crowd in the main season, i expect has to put up with alot of hassle, damages and drunken behaviour, it must be a very hard business for him to run. Before we left, we did talk to him, I'm sure he is a decent man. Thomsons shouldnt take bookings off mature couples to these appartments, its not suitable for them. We have complained to Thomsons, and have agreed compensation with them for our holiday. Kos has alot to offer, we spent 3 days going on trips around the island, which is lovely. The cost of living is through the roof, due to the credit crunch and the Euro, I feel sorry for the Greek people. Kos town is a must for a visit, and I recommend the 3 island tour. In Kardamena Offshore travel are great for booking trips.
I also recommend the Meditterrean Sun restaurant, we ate there every night, the service was a little slow due to its popularity, but the food was excellent, and mega generous portions.
I wish Nikos success in his business, but we wont be staying again, certainly he needs to carry out some refurbishment over the winter. I have noticed a couple of reviews on here, swearing and calling us names, well all i can say if, we have our standards, and the fact that Thomsons have agreed compensation tells you all you need to know
