Just back from Melia Salinas and I think I am a bit disappointed. It is a very quiet hotel and most guests are in the over 65 age group. The positive points about this hotel are its location and pool area which are both great. This hotel is a holiday 5 star with prices to match but not a great one. There doesn't seem to be any atmosphere and the only entertainment is a one hour slot each night and that was a hit or a miss. I did not enjoy eating breakfast in the dining room and it certainly was not a five star experience. We upgraded to a sea view room but forgot to ask for an even number. This makes a big difference to your view and sun allocation! I am glad we only stayed B&B as we had several excellent dining experiences within a few minutes walk of the hotel. The nearby Marettas complex had La Tabl and Marettas restaurants which were both fabulous. Overall this hotel is too expensive for what it is. Please check your final bill carefully before you sign it,as we had a discrepancy on ours which we had to explain to staff their error. Could have done without this. Overall I thought Costa Teguise was a lovely resort but would stay somewhere else if I was returning. I don't mind paying for a great hotel but not this one.

Room Tip: definitely even numbers

This is an amazing hotel-here from 4th to 11th Feb. Staff were amazing, especially Delgado in the snack bar and all the reception staff especially Francesa. Credit to the Melia name!! Beds in the pool were lovely-really nice cushions.

Really can't wait to come back here.

Just back from an enjoyable week in the Melia Salinas. However as it was our first Spanish 5*, we had expected for it to be better than previous 4* holidays, and we were disappointed in this.
Rooms
We were in a deluxe seaview room, which was well worth the upgrade from the classic room. The leap in price from this to The Level was beyond our wallets! The room was more or less south facing, so we were able to catch the sun and admire the view from our balcony all day.
The room has been recently refurbished, and has retained a decent wardrobe with shelves and drawers. The bedside tables however suffer from the current design obsession on removing drawers, so have nowhere to leave pills and books to hand.
Food
As many people have commented, the buffet food in Spices restaurant is good, especially at breakfast and the salad selections at dinner. The restaurant itself was very chilly, and didn't encourage lingering to enjoy the food.
If you are not on AI, the lunch buffet is EUR 21. The alternative is the O Grill where the menu is very limited and uninspired, and not what I what expect in a 5* hotel. The last few 4* places we've been to have been better. There is also a very poor selection of beers available - surely the choice should be better than "domestic" or "imported" when Spain has breweries producing an interesting selection?
What was very good was the A la Carte restaurant Esencia Canarias, in an old farmhouse overlooking the sea. We ate there on St Valentines Day, and had a delicious set meal with wine for just an EUR 20 supplement on our half board. I wish we had tried the other A la Carte restaurant earlier in the week.
Public areas
The other area where the star slips is the pool area. There should be proper control of the use of the loungers - no early morning towel dumps permitted. A previous 5* hotel I've stayed at had staff who would greet you and take you to a lounger and give you your towels for the day. You could then receive drinks and snacks service at your lounger. I had anticipated similar service here.
Also, in the week we were in there, the ladies loos in reception were out of order for 3 days, meaning that apart from going back to your room, you had to go to the (well hidden) loos out past the pool by Esencia Canarias. Not a 5* maintenance response.

So overall, if you are not staying in The Level, this is a very pleasant 4* hotel, but will disappoint if you expect more.

Room Tip: Upgrade to sea view, as it's not a lot more than classic, and the rooms are much airier

A beautifully designed and layed out hotel. Interior decorations are classical-modern, beds and furniture are comfortable. A wonderfully airy hotel with central garden at the core of the hotel, a most elegant lagoon pool and 3 high quality restaurants. A hotel to strongly recommend in a great location.

Stayed at this hotel from 4-11 February 2014 and was delighted with our stay. We chose the half board option which was ok for us, however bearing in mind this is a 5 star hotel the prices of drinks are in keeping with this. If you are intending to be hotel based, I would definitely recommend getting the all inclusive option with your tour operator. However you can take a walk down to the local bars and get lots of good deals on various types of drinks.
I was delighted when I first saw our room, the twin vanity unit, bath and shower, and finally the wonderful view of the beach.
The selection of food on offer was exceptional. There was almost everything you could imagine for your choosing for breakfast, and for dinner. Whilst I accept that we stayed off season, this is the first hotel in 30 years of abroad travelling that I felt the restaurant wasn't like a school dinner hall, with the scraping of chairs, and endless queuing and jostling for your preferred meal. The atmosphere was very calm, civilized and very enjoyable. Our thanks to Laura, one of the Restaurant hospitality team, who meeted and greeted alongside her colleagues, most of them always had some pleasant conversation to indulge in, and we felt like old returning friends from
the previous year.
The pool area (although under renovation) was lovely, the pool incredibly cold (but it is February)the sunbeds were so comfortable, and towels exchangeable if you needed free of charge. You are only a hop skip and a jump from the beach which made a nice scenery change if wanted.
We didn't sample the evening entertainment, not for any reason, but what was advertised on the entertainment board again seemed quite classy!
The reception area of the waterfalls and the bridges lit at night was just beautiful, really well thought out.
There was just such a nice ambiance about the hotel, all staff were friendly, courteous but professional. I honestly cannot fault this hotel, and will definitely return.
