“Hotel has air conditioning switched off”
Reviewed 30 November 2009

WARNING do not use this hotel if you want air-con.
It is advertised WITH AIR CONDITIONING. after repeatedly complaining to the management that our room was constantly 25 degrees they said the maintenance man said it was working ok.
They showed us four more which were all the same temperature the air-con fan was just blowing warm air.
The whole hotel was VERY HOT.
We changed room as they said the wind blew on the other side of the hotel and we could open a window, then we had the traffic noise and could not sleep.
We were then moved to another hotel which had air-con. (later finding out the hotel was overbooked and they needed our room)
AFTER RETURNING HOME I WROTE TO THE PRESEDENT OF BARCELO HOTELS WHO ACKNOWLEDGED MY EMAIL AND SAID IT WOULD BE LOOKED INTO.
SINCE THEN ZILCH.
A man of his word like his Manager.

We stayed at the Barcelo Lanzarote on half board basis, but it was so expensive to eat and drink outside the hotel, we changed to all inclusive on the last day (30 Euro extra), to save money! The bar just outside the hotel charged us 10 Euro for 2 Bacardi & cokes!!

Rooms nicely set in blocks around the ice rinks (I mean swimming pools). Watch out for ice bergs (brrrr...!!). Each block 3 storeys high with balconies. Also one small quiet pool set away from the continuous pop music played all day at the larger pool.

We thought the food was lovely, except for one day, when it must have been chefs day off!! Griddle chefs cooking meat and fish in front of customers, so its possible to have something that isn't coated in sauce if preferred. Breakfast is mayhem though, trying to firstly find a table and then get food and drinks in the crowd!

Airport taxi was 17 Euro. Hotel has free bus shuttle to main centre of Costa Teguise and beach, which is handy, because the hotel is the furthest away from the centre and a very long walk.

Lastly, why has no-one mentioned the land mark that is the first seen when arriving. You know when you've reached Costa Teguise because there is a HUGE power station and desalination plant right on the seafront! Lovely planning!!!

Ask for Sorti (from the animation team) for a game of tennis. Forget the gym though, absolutely NONE of the equipment worked! Not one.

Nice hotel but Lanzarote is so expensive, we wouldn't go back half board again!!

we have recently returned home from a dreadfull experience at this hotel, we found the food to be either cold or disgusting, with the same kind of meals each day the staff were not at all help full and most of the time we had a dirty looks from them. we were al which was ok if you want to sit round the pool all day, in the eveing there are no snacks served after 6pm but you can go to the dining hall again if you would like to eay another meal your all inclusive drinks stop at 11pm and you then have to pay , outside the hotel there is nothing to do its very quiet and away from the local shops there is a supermarket near but the prices are way over priced.

the positive side of things is that the rooms are very clean and cleaned daily with a maid service (they were the only people who were polite)

i would say not to go all inclusive as we had to go out the hotel to get a decent meal which again cost more money

Having just returned (16th November) from Barcelo Lanzarote I can honestly say their really is nothing to complain about at this hotel except maybe the slightly dated decor.
It is kept spotlessly clean and is the only hotel in the canaries that I have stayed in that the maid has cleaned and made beds every day. Rooms are very clean and spacious , yes they are a little dated but you don't spend much time in them and you get what you pay for and this hotel is more than excellent value.
We were on all inclusive basis and what a bargain it is, the drinks were excellent for locally produced and their seemed to be everything you could ask for even whole bottles of excellent house wine if you ate lunch and dinner in the dining room. Food really was very good and we did not find it repetitive or boring (but if you are fussy and only like meat and three veg then it probably isn't for you). Yes snacks at the pool bar were the same every day but this seems to be the norm for AI but you do have the choice to go to the dining room for lunch with lots of variety. The bar and waiting staff are all very polite and helpful and hilarious at times , and if their are no cleared tables for dinner if you ask politely they are very pleased to clear and relay one for you.
Pools are very clean and their is a lifeguard by the busy ones , their is also a quiet pool that he checks on now and again.
The entertainment team are the best i have ever met and they make everyone feel as though they have known them a very long time, they encourage you to join in but only if you want to , no pressure. The mini club is fantastic, even has its own pool and its open five hours per day with a break for lunch, I could not keep my youngest away.
I would recommend anyone visiting this hotel, try it ,enjoy it and wish you didn't have to come home.
My husband and eldest daughter played golf and at Costa Teguise golf course and said it was excellent and you get a very good price through the hotel so if you enjoy golf its a good place to stay.

We have just returned from a 5 night break to the Barcelo Lanzarote and found that the food resembled eating in a school cafeteria! The food is very repetetive, normally cold and regularly reheated/put out again for the next meal. Trying to even get a table is the first hard step to overcome, only to be dissapointed by the food served.

On the positive side we had a nice quiet (albeit dated) room in block 4 and enjoyed the all inclusive alchohol. The hotel was also easy to get to - on a 17 euro taxi trip from the airport. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool (albeit it is very cold!) and always managed to get a sun lounger.

After reading some of the reviews I was not expecting too much but was pleasnatly suprised!

Pool - lovely pool area with lots of sun loungers! yes it was a little bit cold but it was so hot that it was refreshing.

Food - The food was really good. Breakfast was the same everyday but a huge selection to cater for everyone. You could anything from a bacon, eggs etc to fresh fruit. Lunch in the restaurant was also very good but we tended to eat by the pool at the AI section where there were pizzas, burgers etc. I dont think I ever has the same thing twice for dinner. There were the usual things every night such as desserts and salad items but the hot food was changed slightly every night.

Rooms - The rooms weren't four star standard more like 3 but they were very clean and spacious and the maid came in everyday to clean them. The bathroom was nice and spacious but could of done with a little TLC.

Staff - Staff were great but yes a little understaffed but we only really saw the effects of this at night in the main bar becuase it was busy but we still didnt wait that long. They were all really friendly and did anything to help.

The centre of costa tequise is about 4 euros in a taxi and we went a couple of nights for a meal. Worth a visit once but its quite quiet, maybe it was the time of year. We tended to walk there which took about 15-20 mins and taxi it back.

For what we paid I really cant grumble at anything. I would definitley recommend this for a winter getaway!!

Had a great stay in this hotel. Stayed AI with two mates in a suite. Food exceeded expectations - dining room food (quality/choice) was first class. Poolside food was very handy and would prove invaluable for keeping kids fuelled up! (left mine at home with wife)

Hotel was slightly under-staffed but the staff there are extremely professional - this is their job and they aren't just filling in time until something better comes along....not like in Blighty.

Special recognition to :- Elysio, Zaira,Wilfre, Goyo, Said, Muhammed, Slavka.

The key to getting the best from anybody serving you is to remember their names and speak to them in their own language, even if it is only to say thankyou - A lot of my fellow (English) countrymen still haven't grasped this simple concept!

The hotel guests during my stay were roughly 50% Spanish "Mundo Senor" (Spanish SAGA) visitors (very well mannered) followed by 20 % Ingleses, 10% german & French, plus a few Poles.

There is a great beach situated directly behind the Occidental Oasis (which faces the Barcelo). It's easy to overlook if you didn't know it is there. Follow the footpath to the right of the Occidental then turn left....

Also, the new promenade path to Costa Teguise is good excercise and a nice walk.

This is a very big hotel and must be nightmare to run - for the money I paid, I think I got excellent value.
