“Excellent Hotel......we will return”
Reviewed 19 July 2011

Forget the other reviews just read this. I have travelled the world and apart from USA, this is certainly the best the hotel I have been at. How anybody can complain about the food is beyond me. It was excellent and those who do not enjoy it must be looking for Egg and Chips! Excellent selection and varied every day. I have seen other comments that the sun beds were past their sell by date. They may have been a little worn, but nothing major. Actually we were there on 4th July and they had over 50 new beds delivered. Fantastic hotel and very quiet resort. Great for relaxing. If you are looking for a hectic night life. this is not for you. If you want a quiet holiday, good food, great hotel. Then book away friends!

We upgraded to a superior room to get a sea view and on arrival our name was called out and we were fast tracked through the checkout procedure with a glass of champaign. As the restaurant was about to close the hotel took care of the cases to room and we went straight into dinner.
The food at the hotel was excellent and the staff very friendly.
The only downside was the noise from the room above us, after two phone calls to reception things quietened down but this did wind us up a bit. Next day checked with reception and the people had been moved to another room.
The rooms are huge - balcony had two sun loungers and table and chairs, mini fridge and kettle also as part of the upgrade, but still had to pay for safe with a key! (need combo locks)
Best trip was the Catamaran, swam in the sea off the boat and went on the jet ski

Room Tip: Upgrade room to superior not suite, as suites are on bottom floor and some don't have a sea view

Stayed in Coronas Playa for 14 nights. We had booked a superior room in the hotel. On arrival we were told we had booked a superior garden suite which is an apartment in the garden. We were not happy and complained to Thompsons rep. They told us nothing could be done as all hotel rooms were booked. We then asked for an apartment with a sea view and again were told all were booked. We decided to make the best of it as the apartments were big and comfortable. During our 2 weeks at least one sea view apartment was vacant at all times. This is not acceptable. The Thompson rep was very unhelpful and kept giving us excuses. I will never book with them again.
Over all the hotel is lovely. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Food could be better especially at evening meals where quality of meats was poor. It is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. Enjoyed my stay but did not get the superior room we booked and paid for.

this is not a 4 star hotel, the hotel is showing signs of wear in places, and needs a little tlc. the staff are very friendly and nothing is a problem, entertainment is reasonable. however the food is not at all good, breakfast is ok, but evening meals are poor , little choice , poor quality. all meals are self service. no waiter service , the rooms are very spacious , and clean, and a bonus is the pool towel service, which you are provided with every day.

My sister (50), myself (46) and my daughter (17) have just returned from a week at the Coronas Playa. I have to say that initially i had reservations that my daughter might feel a bit out of place but i needn't have worried. The entertainment team were great, Tony and Sam a real laugh and Les and Lesley providing excellent evening shows. The evening acts didnt always live up to much but were tolerable. As usual sunbeds were an issue and on one day someone had reserved two beds from 7am and spent 20mins on them from about 3pm!!! Sunbeds were very worn, however they did bring some new ones out during the week - for a gold hotel i would have expected a better class of sunbed! Rooms were clean and spacious, food great couldn't fault it, staff all very friendly and enjoyed a laugh and joke, nothing too much trouble. At end of week i asked my daughter how she felt her holiday had been considering that she was probably one of the youngest there, she replied that she had thoroughly enjoyed it and would definately go back again, and also said that it was nice not having little kids running around!!! So a thumbs up all round for the Coronas Playa.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a pool or sea view - dont pay extra for it!!

This was our first stay in a Thomson gold hotel, and how disapoininting it was. The hotel is very dated, when you arrive you get the impression that it was designed in the 70s, we stayed in a garden suite with sea views in "Canarian style gardens", ( very debatible). The rooms were huge and very clean, but on arrival we had to pay 50 euros for the air conditioning remote control, safe key and pool towels, of which 10 euros was refundable on return of the towels which is a little extortionate. The television was poor, 4 English speaking channels,3 of which were news channels, plus movies 4 men 2, which in the evening usually consisted of mild porographic content, if you required extra channels such as ITV you were required to pay an extra 3 euros a day, again a little extortinate on an all enclusive package. None of the showers around the two pools worked, there are cracked, missing and broken tiles around the edes of the pool, a serious health & safety issue! The sun loungers were by and large very old and in need of replacement. The food was very dissapointing, very little choice was offered and what was available was generally of a poor quality, canteen style rather than a good quality hotel, there was a lot of processed food on offer which really is not up to 4 star hotel standards, if you required a snack at lunch time you were limited to toasties at the lower pool or you could eat in the main restaurant where you were served at your table, chicken & chips, burgers etc, not buffet style which is highly unsual, again the selection and quality was below 4 star standard. The entertainment in the day day was quite good, the Thomson reps worked hard to entertain, the evening entertaiment was very hit and miss, some quite good, some awful, there can be a problem in the pavilion where the evening entertaiment is held due to the time it can take to receive your drinks from when you order can take 20-30 mins to receive. The service in the Monkey bar was very good. There is an issue with Cockroaches at the Coronas, we had to walk each evening back to our room down an avenue which invarably had these horrible creatures crawling along the sides of the pathway, we had a total of 5 in our room, which was reported to reception, they arranged for the maid to spray some replellent in our room plus they left us a can of spray just in case we encoutered any more of these grotesque creatures. The staff at this hotel are absolutely fantastic from waiters, waitresses, bar staff, cleaners, reception, maintenace, they are all extreemly helpful, nothing is to much trouble and they always have a smile (or whistle) for you, they are all 5 star. To describe this hotel as a Thomson Gold 4 Star is misleading,I would judge it as a 3 star max, speaking to some other guests, some of which have stayed there before, comented that the hotel standards were in decline, and that they have stayed at other Thomson Gold hotels which were far superior to the Coronas. Some people are repeat guests so they appear to be happy, but judging this hotel against others that we have stayed in, it is in our opinion sub standard. The Coronas is in need of a major refurb and some policy changes to bring it up to a decent 4 star all inclusive standard that is expected now wherever you go.
