“Excellent Adults Only Thomson Gold Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2012

Excellent service and beach side location. We booked a superior room (no larger than standard but with dressing gowns and slippers provided, sea-view etc ), well worth it for the day long sunshine and sunbeds on our balcony. We also were all-inclusive which made for a most relaxing holiday. The two pools offer one where activities take place and a quieter one. Planty of space around the hotel grounds although no grassy areas (Lanzarote has no grass outside its golf courses).
The centre of Costa Teguise is a fifteen mionute walk along a delightful promenade. Buses to Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen stop close by; car hire is inexpensive and recommended to get around the north of the island.

Room Tip: High floors (mostly superior rooms) offer best views and privacy.

This is the second time we've been to the hotel and although it is seeing signs of wear and tear, it's very comfortable. We booked with Thomson Gold for an adults only hotel. The plane was really cramped (and I'm only petite) and there is no longer any entertainment or food other than snacks. When we got to Lanzarote, there was a hefty walk along the concourse, under the motorway, up the ramp (or lift), then a game of hunt the coach.

The hotel is only 15 minutes away. Booking in to your room means having to wait in the queue although you are given a drink while waiting. We went on the 16th February and there was a very chill wind. Fleeces and cardigans were essential. We ended up having a suite which was like a small flat without a kitchen. There are no tea making facilities but there is a fridge and there was a bottle of water in it. There are several supermarkets and we used the one across the road and to your left as you leave reception. The wine is also relatively cheap.

The rep, Andrea, will give you a tour of Costa Teguise. If you don't want to go with her, you go to the end of the second pool, down the steps and through the gates at the back of the hotel. You'll need your room card to get back in. You turn left and walk along a really nice promenade. You come to a fork in the walkway and you go left for the short walk and right for a longer coastal walk. It only takes ten minutes.

We didn't book any excursions with Thomson but we did what many people were doing and that was to book with lastminute transfer. The office is on the same side of the road as the hotel and you turn right at the reception. It's only a few shops up. I checked them out on my ipad and the reviews were very good. We went to the Sunday market in Teguise with them. We found a wonderful German eaterie in Teguise. It's a very old property and you eat in the beautiful courtyard. They even had blankets from Ikea (yes, there's an Ikea in Lanzarote)to put over your knees because it was so cold - but sunny. The coach picked us up when and where they said they would- it was only 4 euros. It's cheaper to go by bus but I noticed long queues and people having to wait quite a while so it was worth booking the trip instead.

We also did the grand tour with Lastminute Transfer and it was excellent. It's the best lunch I've ever had on a guided tour. Connie was excellent. She spoke in English first and then German so it was like having a refresher German lesson all day. We didn't stay in places too long so nobody got bored and there were several toilet stops along the way.

Tip: If you go to Timanfaya it's better to go on a coach trip. There were very long car queues and you are not allowed to take your car around the volcanic area because it's protected. You have to park up and get the coach laid on for you. If you're on a coach trip, you just stay on that coach.

I would say that 75% of the hotel guests were over 65 years old. The entertainment in the evening was not to our taste and we just are not into tea dance music. It's about time the tourism trade understood that older people also like up to date music and entertainment and not the obligatory drag acts. However,Andrea and Stuart, Thomson reps, were hilarious. You must go to their day time cheese and wine tasting and how to make paella and sangria. Andrea does a trip to Arrecife but there is a lot of walking.

The food is quite good however I did have a stomach upset after breakfast on the 4th day there and I had to see the Doctor when I got back.

Altogether, we would return to the hotel and it is very friendly, clean and comfortable. If the weather was warmer, I'm sure the 2 huge pools would have been in use. There are plenty of sunbeds which you are not allowed to reserve before 10 a.m. otherwise, your towels are taken off. I wish more hotels did this.

Recently back from lovely holiday at the Hotel Coronas Playa. The hotel is well situated for easy access to sea front, shops, bars, restaurants and public transport, without the usual noise and bustle. There are pleasent, traffic free seafront walks and the whole area is always tidy and well kept. The Hotel is well laid out and the rooms are spacious with a large balcony that acts as both a wind break and a sun trap and are ideal if privacy is your thing. The restaurant serves excellent meals, great variation, fresh, well cooked and presented. The staff are warm ,freindly and always helpful. Generaly a calm and easy going atmosphere. We did, however, concidering what the holiday cost, find the hotels charges for "extras" rarther unfounded,..e.g....pay TV, sun loungers on your balcony 7euros pppd, extra for tea and coffee making facilities,(kettle and 2 cups only), 3 euros pd safe key hire +10 euros deposit on the key! Play up Coronas,..and Playa the game.

Room Tip: There are a couple of rooms at the front of the hotel that are over the hotel bar and pub, these can...

This was our first visit to Coronas Plays and was pleased that my husband's coeliac condition was very well catered for. A bit disappointed that, even though we were all inclusive, my husband had to pay a euro for a bottle of Magners as he is unable to drink beer because of his being coeliac. The food was very good and there was plenty of choice. On our last day we heard, from another guest, that we could have had additional TV channels for one euro per night. I know that holidays are not for watching TV but we would have used this facility if we had been made aware. Day time at the hotel and local walks was enjoyable and the weather was good after our first day being a bit wet and windy. Enjoyed our stay. Staff were all helpful and welcoming.

Just got back from the Coronas Playa, we both had a wonderful time. The Hotel is very clean, the rooms are large, huge bed, we asked for a mattress topper which made the bed even more comfortable. Louisa the Maid was friendly and helpful. We had a superior room with the All Inclusive Option and it was excellent, the drinks are branded drinks as well as the local spirits, and the cocktails delicious. The food was very good, even a Sunday roast before we left, roast lamb very tasty. The food was always hot. There was always something for everyone, the food was varied so you could always find something to suit you. The staff in the Monkey Bar and the Pavillion really do work hard and always have a smile for everyone. A special mention to Lez and Lesley "The Score", we thoroughly enjoyed their act, and Lesley is so bubbly, and their music has something for "everyone" The Reps show was really good, best we have ever seen, Stuart, Dino, Richard, Dave and Lauren were brilliant, it was so funny, their Magic Show is not to be missed. All we can say is "we felt at home" and met some lovely friendly people there. We have already booked for October of this year and we are both looking forward to returning to the Coronas Playa we had a brilliant two weeks!!!

Just returned from a week (19th - 26th Feb 2012) at the Coronas Hotel. The hotel is probably the best all round hotel my wife and myself have stayed in. The food is excellent and cant see why some other reviews are complaining, there is so much choice. The Coronas has the best all inclusive package i have had anywhere with brand drinks, proper ice creams (cornetos, magnams) all day long and not the usual 1 hour gap. The entertainment is first class and the best i have seen. The Coronas is a Thomson Gold hotel which only caters for the English, so no rude Germans pushing there way to the front. Sunbeds are in abundance so no need to reserve the beds at silly o clock. The staff are fantastic working hard to please and making the holiday special. The rooms are masive with great big beds, large balcolnies. The hotel is a nice 10 minute walk along the coast line to the main shopping area in Teguise.
We will definitely return to this wonderful hotel.

Just returned from our third stay at this wonderful Thomson Gold hotel. The hotel delivers everything you would expect from an all inclusive. Good food, top brand drinks, great entertainment and very efficient and personal service. The bedrooms are massive and some comments claim they are a bit spartan..but so what? You don't spend your holiday in your bedroom !!! The table linen was always clean & fresh and the food is NOT average its typical of what the British like. We had roasts, fish & chips & even a curry with lots of other choices. All the food is fresh with a good selection on offer The service in all areas is attentive, polite and helpful. In this hotel the reception is just that, a reception!!! Its not big enough to double up as a bar as in some of the larger hotels.Adjacent the reception is the monkey bar which is very welcoming with first class service. The evening entatinment in the Pavillion was varied and again the bar and waitering staff are to be congratulated on their high standard of customer service. There is a very pleasant path at the back of the hotel that offers a very pleasant walk to Costa Teguise where there are some nice shops and a few bars. The resort was spotless and felt extremely safe and welcoming. In the summer months it would be an ideal after dinner walk. Finally, we think the number of people who go back to this hotel speaks volumes. We can't wait to go back next year!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are huge ask for a room over looking the pools they seem to get the sun for most of th...
