Had brilliant holiday at Coronas Playa, hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful from beginning of holiday to end.
Met with a cold drink of orange then offered to take our cases to the room. One little blip was as we arrived too late for dinner we were told late supper was in our room didn't think much of this (crackers & tuna yogurt and an apple)
On the plus side the all inclusive was served till 12.30 by pleasant staff especially Begonia
Welcome meeting was well presented interesting without feeling pressured into anything.
Derek (one of the entertainment team) took us for a walk to beach and town (only 15/20 minutes away) gave useful interesting facts
Food in restaurant very good only disappointment with variety of salad on lunch time but this was due to personal choice as always plenty of other options available
Entertainment was probably best hotel entertainment I have seen very similar to what you would find on a cruise.
Two pools one quiet and the other with entertainment (this pool was heated although be it only slightly but still very nice) We enjoyed this pool as Mel & Connor made everything seem fun even if you just wanted to observe other holidaymakers participating it was fun.
Hotel was very clean and rooms good size but could may be do with little updating but still very nice.
Must advise brochure states free wi-fi but should point out only available for one item per room (what couple go away with only one phone/tablet).
I have been totally honest with this review and must say I Would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to be going for gold again.

My wife & I stayed here for 10 nights from 24th July until our return home yesterday 3rd August 2014. Although we have booked numerous all inclusive holidays over the years via Thomson & Thomson Worldwide, we have never stayed at a Thomson Gold hotel before.
We were highly impressed with the Coronas Playa & it's location, ( only a 20 minute transfer from airport ) & our overall opinion was excellent & good value for money.
Had a spacious top floor room on left hand side of hotel with sea view & overlooking bottom pool. Being on top floor meant you could sit out on balcony in glorious sunshine until sunset. Beds were comfortable, plenty of wardrobe space, bathroom/shower all OK.( NB. felt the lighting in bathroom was a little too dim, as I struggled to see in order to get a really close wet shave using the mirror ). Air conditioning in room was easy to set & more than sufficient.
The 2 pool facilities were good with plenty of sunbeds, straw parasols, & shady areas if you desired. Whilst the bottom pool was supposed to be heated, I can assure you same was not. If there was a downside to my holiday, it could only be the water temperature of the pools. It was very cold to say the least & it took at least 5 minutes of swimming around for your body temperature to adjust.
Pool & snack bars were good, and all bars had 'branded' spirits & cocktails. Good ice creams as well. Good variety of food available in restaurant, choices of meat, fish, seafood, pastas, rice, potatoes, vegetables, salads, soup & deserts etc etc.
The entertainment at hotel was excellent. Daytime activities at bottom pool run by the 'in house' Thomson entertainment team, with night time entertainment held in the pavilion ( well it's designed like a circus big top ). The night entertainment was really good, especially the resident group duo 'The Midas Touch' whom are excellent, plus of course the Thomson entertainment team, and all of the guest special acts, with the acrobatics & antics of 'The African Footprints' not to be missed.
The hotel in general is kept very clean & tidy, & all staff throughout are extremely friendly, polite, courteous, & professional ( as are the Thomson reps & entertainment team ).
Excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on top floor on left hand side of hotel overlooking bottom pool. Quieter at night...

We have stayed at this hotel several times and it always impresses us, particularly the staff who are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean and having two large pools ensures that people who want a quiet time use one pool, whilst the other pool area hosts all the activities. The Thomson team (including the entertainment team) are brilliant too.

Derek, the local information person from Thomson, was great - we did a trip into Arecife with him as well as a walk to the 'shipwreck' and into Costa Teguise.

We went half board as we always like to make use of local facilities for lunch/drinks etc and would always do this.

Another great holiday at the Coronas Playa.

After going with Thompson Gold last year in Majorca which was excellent decided to try a different destination but stuck with Gold. Agree that the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. special mention to the cleaning staff who worked tirelessly to keep the hotel as clean as it was. Hotel room was spacious - we had a beach end room which was quiet and out of the way. Whilst we enjoyed the holiday for a Gold holiday and compared to last year it was a little disappointing. The entertainment staff during the day were very good keeping guests entertained. However with only two of them they did seem to be a little over stretched. For the most part the outside acts were poor - agreed with previous comment about the comedian - he was worse than awful. Stayed half board and that suited us - didn't feel the need to pay the extra 24 euros per person per day to upgrade to all inclusive. Whilst the food in the restaurant was always plentiful and varied the options in the bars around the pool were a little limited. Only one flavour of crisps and no nuts or other pre packed snacks on offer. Some parts of the hotel looked a little tired with some of the patio around the pool area breaking up and corridors crumbling. Agree that the pools were very cold at times. We took advantage of the local bike hire near the hotel and the local bus service and sorted our own trips out which made the holiday cheaper. A good trip is a taxi ride up to the town of Teguise on a non market day - the little town is good to walk around with plenty of little shops and cafes and restaurants to go into. A visit to the Grand Hotel in Aricefe is good value too - a short bus ride or long walk in - for about 4.50 euros cake and coffee at the restaurant on the 17th floor with panoramic views of Aricefe makes for a good afternoon out. Derek's bus time table was the most useful piece of information handed out. All said, we had a lovely holiday due to mainly sorting ourselves out.

Room Tip: Beach end rooms are the quietest but longest to walk to the restaurant.

My wife and I stayed here for 11 nights for our honeymoon in July. The weather was sunny and the breeze keeps you cool.
We arrived and were given a drink straight away and the reception staff were top class and couldn't help us enough. They answered every question we had and made sure that if we had any problems to come see them or email 24/7.
The room was very large with a great sea and pool view. The bed was a tad hard but after a nights sleeping on it we asked for a mattress topper and it came when the maid cleaned the room. Bathroom was clean, tidy and shower was powerful plus easy to use.
The food and drink choice was great. Local beer, spirits or cocktails were on offer. Great tasting and cocktails weren't pre made ones either. The food in the restaurant was very nice. The head chef makes sure everything is perfect. Great selection of salads, meats, fish, potatoes and the desserts were yummy. The staff here make sure you are never without a drink and are constantly working hard with a smile on their face.
The evening entertainment is top class starting with the resident duo of The Midas Touch (Steve and Kristina) who are not only excellent at what they do but have a really good rapport with audience. The 10 o'clock live acts were of amazing quality from Craig Harper (BGT semi finalist) to the incredible Beijing acrobats.
The Thomson team here are great and really are top class at what they do. They are always on hand to help if you need it or just to chat.
Special mentions must go to Mel and Conor who work tirelessly throughout the day with poolside activities that anyone can do or just watch. They remember your name or even give you a nickname (Dave and Mrs Dave). They also work hard in the evening entertainment. They are always smiling and are so friendly. I've never seen Thomson reps work as hard as they do to make everyone included and happy.
So finally to sum this place up. Its a really great place and I'd suggest it to anyone.

Best holiday we have had. Couldn't fault any part of hotel. We are definitely going back there again. Anybody who complains about this hotel and the staff need to go and try some of the places we've stayed in. The staff are so pleasant and helpful. The hotel is spotless. The entertainment team work hard but can't please everyone. Only criticism would be they could do with comfier sun loungers.

Room Tip: we stayed in a sea view suite. fantastic

Myself and my partner (a couple in our 30s) booked this all-inclusive week-long holiday on the Tuesday and flew out on the Thursday. We were met by a Thomson rep at Arrecife airport and directed to the correct coach. The transfer only took approximately 15 mins but at no point during the holiday did we notice any planes flying over the hotel. On arrival we were greeted with a drink while a porter took our bags to our room. The reception staff were English, helpful and friendly. In fact, at no point during the holiday did we experience any language barrier.

Our room was huge and spotless, and situated towards the rear of the hotel, near the sea. This meant we got a great night's sleep every night and were not disturbed at all during our stay. The air conditioning was also quiet and made the room a pleasant temperature. The resort of Costa Teguise was only about 15 mins walk away; there were a number of restaurants, bars, shops etc here but we only ventured here on one occasion during the day.

The quality of the food was excellent. We both enjoyed a cooked breakfast every morning although there was loads of cereal / fruit / pastries / cooked meats etc as well. Breakfast and dinner were both completely buffet-style, however lunch offered about 8 mains and 2 different specials with table service, and a limited amount of buffet-style salad. There could have been a little more variety at lunch, however the two poolside snack bars also serve sandwiches, toasties, hot dogs, burgers etc as a good alternative. The food is also quiet 'safe' and English on the whole, with specials such as roast beef dinner with mash, however there were Caribbean and Canarian theme nights while we were there. The 'safe' food seemed to be popular with everyone, as most guests were 50+, and all English, although there were a handful of younger people. Despite it being 28 degrees outside, the two soup options seemed to be very popular every day! Put it this way though, we did not go hungry at any point! It was all very tasty.

We went down to the pool at around 10.15 every morning and always managed to find a couple of sunbeds next to each other, with a straw umbrella to provide some shade. There seemed to be enough sunbeds for everyone. The bottom pool had music and activities throughout the day (quizzes, darts, water volleyball etc), and the top pool was quiet so you could take your pick.

The evening entertainment was provided in the Pavilion, a sort of circus tent with rows of seats facing the stage. Music from resident band The Midas Touch was excellent, as was the entertainment and hosting provided by the reps. While we were there, we saw a good soul tribute band, a decent country singer/guitarist and an awful comedian called Steve Salter whose material was 40 years out of date, sexist, xenophobic and full of jokes you've heard before. He unashamedly ripped off Tommy Cooper and The Two Ronnies and badly sang a couple of songs. Truly terrible. However the hour that he was on was the only hour of the entire holiday were the entertainment was not up to scratch, and most other guests seemed to enjoy it, so I guess it's all down to personal taste.

In the pavilion and monkey bar, it's all table service for drinks, which could be a little slow at times. But if you order your next pint when you've still got a quarter of your current one left, it was ok. My other half liked the fact that they had branded spirits and a wide range of cocktails. The Carpa pool bar was also busy around lunchtime as there was one lady working there on her own. She took it all in her stride but could've done with some help.

A special mention must go to the staff who were always friendly, helpful and made you feel welcome. If I had to try to pick faults, some of the sunbeds were a little dilapidated and certain areas could benefit from a lick of paint but all in all we had a really good time and would definitely consider returning to the Coronas Playa.

Room Tip: Our room (237) was at the rear of the hotel, near the sea, so at no point were we disturbed by late...
