I stayed at the Santa Rosa from the 14th of august until the 21st and I must say it was absolutely fabulous we enjoyed every minute of it. Before arriving I emailed the reception at the Santa Rosa apartments and asked for a pool view room although I was told that this might not be possible I was given a fantastic apartment with a pool view everything was spotless outside and inside.
The pool are is fantastic the pool is salt water and also is very cold at first but you would be glad of it when the temperature rises. I would say a good pair of goggles for younger children as it can irritate their eyes but their is showers at the pool side to use when you get out of the pool which is very helpful.
We also availed of the half board option and also were not disappointed the breakfast was the same every morning but you would never get board as their was so much their you could have the usual bacon sausages beans eggs ect or their was always a cold option with boiled eggs fruit rolls cheese it was all fantastic. We ate at the pool side bar sometimes it was very cheap and food was excellent a wrap hot dog chips and 2 drinks came to 11 euro which we were very pleased with.
We also used the jacuzzi just as we had never before to see what it was like and it was lovely 9 euro for 3 people for a half an hour. We also used the bowling 4 people for the lain shoes and we were able to buy new socks all for 16 euro and it was a great night the crazy golf is free to use you just have to ask at the desk for the clubs.
Their is also a woman the comes on a Friday and Monday with scuba gear which you were allowed try out in the pool they also do dive for 60 euro which is 45 mins in the water but you should try it in the pool as it is fantastic experience to just use the gear.

We also rented jet ski's in proto del carmen 50 euro for 20 minutes seams a bit steep but if you have never used one before as we had not it was absolutely fantastic we were taken out to a stop where they jet ski's were and told how to start and stop and where we were allowed to go and then we were let go until our time was up well worth it and would recommend it to anyone

We also went gokarting in san bartolome lanzarote we booked it at the reception they collected us a dropped us back was absolutely amazing and even my 12 year old daughter was allowed on the same track as us after they made sure she could use her go kart and she thought it was brilliant.

We attended as two families of 4 (4 adults, 4 teenagers), booked through Flexitrips/Jumbo Tours flying with Jet2.com. We were a little nervous as this was the first time we have not had a rep on site. Having arrive home only 3 days ago I am now able to give you this review:
Flight and transfer - although we were unable to book our seats the Jet2 flight was very good and transfer to the Santa Rosa - excellent.
Accomodation - with teenagers the two bedroom appartments (see photos and map) was perfect with more than enough room.
The kitchen was very functional as we cooked and stayed on site one night then out the next.
Facilities included two electric rings and a microwave that enabled us to cook everything from Chillie, to curry and even pasta dishes. The only downside to this facility were the pans supplied were for gas hobs not electric so they bowed when they got hot. We purchased another pan from IKEA (having hired a car for the duration of our holiday via Jet2 website £ 190.00 all in).
The only negatives we could give the Santa Rosa are a lack of a sweeping brush or mop to tidy on those days maid service was not available (2 days a week).
Entertainment was provided by the "annimation team" and this was multi-lingual which seemed to put some brits off, however make an effort and it is very well received.... We really enjoyed the fun and games, that includes our 2 x 14 year olds and 2 x 17 year olds (thanks Rosemary and Fernando).
Pool bar - excellent service and great value. Happy hour 4-6pm gets you two pints for 2 Euros.
Food there was equally good and provided a nice break in the shade to surf the net on the free WiFi (poolbar password 0987654321).
We also gained access to free WiFi near the ball pool and entertainment centre (3com no password required).
Our boys made friends with the Private owners children (HPB group) who gave us the password for the WiFi I would suggest if you have children be cheeky and get them to ask.
The Pool - although it was August initially we found it a little cool however you do get used to it very quickly (SALT water pool).
Out and about - we soon realised that the finest dining was those bars and restaurants closest to us and include iB Italian, next to the Hypodino outside where the eight of us had a mix of calzone and pizza and a few beers each for less than 85 Euros. Opposite you will find The Crown, again with free WiFi, and great british food at a good price.
Our 17 year olds had no problem in buying us a drink from the bar and were never challenged - dont get me wrong there was never any teenage drinking problems, violence or noise that this would attrack in the UK.

All in all, was a fantastic holiday and fantastic place to stay and would definately stay here again. (search You Tube for Santa Rosa for our video).

Many facilities are just not fit for purpose and therefore unusable. We were conned.

Part of the explanation for the many positive reports of people “returning for a 5th year etc..” is due to the large proportion of timeshare owners in Santa Rosa – these people obviously have a vested interest in keeping the value of their properties high. For the general holidaying public, the reality is very different. Let me explain...

The Pool – no shade – the worst provision of shade facilities I have ever seen. With only 11 parasols available for a hotel with around 300 apartments (yes – only 11!) the chances of getting any shade at the pool is almost zero. Coupled to the mass appearance of towels on all sun beds before 7am every day and the chances become absolutely zero. Some reviews state that pool attendants remove such bed-blocking articles but we never saw this in the week we were there and therefore never once set foot in the pool – although we were paying for it. For the timeshare owners – they have their own separate pool, with a security gate entrance, with a lot more shade.

The apartments. We were allocated room 2003 in the apartment block that backs (10m) onto the main road through Costa Teguise, at the corner of the compound, next to the restraint delivery and bin lorry bay – as far away from the pool as you can get. We arrived to find many things broken. We had to wait around for about an hour for someone to come and fix the safe (you must use the safe or the cleaners are instructed not to clean your apartment). On requesting a move we were offered the well rehearsed excuse would be heard several times during our stay “It is peak time, and this is what we have” There is no air-con but if you are familiar (as we are) with Lanzarote you will know that it is not needed – just open the windows and a blast of air will blow through the place. That is if you can open windows – not the case here. The only window has no limiter, it is at waist height and opens onto the public walkway next to the main road, so this was not openable at all. The balcony doors are the only other thing that opens – these are next to the sofa (not a sofa bed) that our 10 year old slept on (this was the week after a paedophile tried to snatch a 12yo in Puerto del Carmen) so these were not openable. The apartment was a hot airless hole, and still the hotel charged us for the hire of a small desktop fan to circulate the hot air. This made sleeping very difficult and everyday we were tired. The towels were disgusting – all holed, ripped and marked. The TV did not work – not that it mattered since we spent as little time in this place as possible.

Cleanliness. We went self-catering because we like to have a leisurely breakfast of our own choosing, however the utensils were caked with dried on food, the chopping board was a bio-hazard, there was no cleaning materials, and it seems the maids did not have any either. We just shut the drawers again and ate out every meal. Even storing ice-creams was out of the question - the fridge freezer compartment had no door and was just a frosted mass. So self catering facilities were not fit for purpose, but we still paid for them.

The Gym. This is an airless hole. It may be acceptable in cooler seasons just to have two windows open, but in August this place is unusable. Another facility that we paid for but was not fit for purpose.

The staff. The management and staff look after themselves well, they have a superb air-conditioned building. Their jobs however seems to be to listen to complains and reply “It is peak season, this is all we have”. They were oblivious to the fact that we were paying peak rates for these “all we have facilities”

In summary - this place just does not have the basics right. We wanted self catering facilities, with a pool to spend time in the morning, gym at mid-day then beach in the afternoon. We spent as little time as possible in Santa Rosa and dreaded returning each evening – the definition of a terrible holiday accommodation.

If you want to come here ensure you have an email confirming you have one of the poolside apartments – these have small security openable windows and secure louvered shutters - no problem with air quality. They are also the ones who take all the shade at the pool, since they are only a few steps away from them (we saw one of them put out towels at 9pm). If you do not get the confirming email for these poolside positions DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE. We requested a poolside apartment and got an email acknowledging our request and stated they would do their best to accommodate- we got the hole that is room 2003. If it is peak season – also do not book this place at all, you will end up paying a high cost for facilities that only a few use.

Room Tip: Pool-side apartment only - otherwise do not book this place.

Apartment complex was very nice and clean, staff friendly and helpful.
Downsides........ The lack of air con made it very uncomfortable in the evenings and although there are signs to say "towels left on sunbeds unatended for more than a hour will be removed" this did not happen and i found i had to get up and put my towel on about 7am to get a bed!! often a lot off beds had towels on from 7am but nobody came to use them untill lunch. the day we left at 5am there was already 8 sets of towels on beds.
As for the resort itself, if you like a resort full of english and irish bars then you will love it.
not somewhere i would go again but i can see why a lot of people do.

We travelled here in the school holidays in July 2012 and stayed 14 nights half board. When we arrived we found that the receptionist wasn't very friendly and didn't give us much information about the place such as meal times, where the kids clubs are etc(this improved over the time there..I think we must have had the worst receptionist on arrival-the others were fine) ..we found our apartment which was fine..a little dusty in the bottom of the wardrobes but other than that very clean.Breakfast was perfect and in the 14 times we ate there for breakfast we never tired of it.The kids had fresh pancakes made to order everyday while the adults had full english or cereal and yoghurt or toast..it was all yummy. We ate in there twice in the evening..the food that is there is well cooked and lovely..but there wasn't much choice so if you didn't like what was on offer or if your a little fussy like us..then you are stuck!..Plus there wasn't much choice for kids in the evening. We have always gone All Inclusive before as a family but this holiday really opened our eyes to the good points of self-catering..there are so many lovely restaurants in Costa Teguise..it was much nicer to eat out in the evenings. The kids club ran everyday from 11 until 1pm(except sundays) down in the area near the bowling..Rosemary the kids club rep was fantastic..so cheerful all the time and so much energy..really worked hard..a lovely woman!..Most evenings after dinner we went down into the bar near bowling so the kids could go to the minidisco at 8.30pm and then there was always some sort of entertainment on afterwards which was really good..we met 2 lovely families there so we were usually the last ones out of there..some nights after midnight..which meant that it was a struggle getting to breakfast before it finished at 10am the next morning. To sum up..a lovely hotel in a lovely place..will definitely go again..but self catering or bed and breakfast instead of half board.
