myself and hubby have just returned after our second visit to royal suite,it will prob be our last. a few things have changed for the worse in our opinion.last year pools were heated, part of reason we went back but this time wee not! the quiet pool which we loved is now covereed with a plastic srtructure ,many would prefer but we didnt.this area is no longer quiet!the noise echoes in there especially when kids are in there! we spent most of our time round main pool it was very quiet so was ok. the rooms are cleaned daily except weds and sun but we alaways had fresh towels, and 2 sheet changes in ten days. the food has gone up a notch, plenty of choice both meatwise and desserts, and a cocktail at eve meal as you walk in,a nice touch. the boys in restaurant work very hard, but pool bar kept running out of lager and took ages to restock. animation team do their best to help you jopin in the activities they are not pushy.i got grumbled at by one waiter milton who never looked very happy ,he did last year,i moved a bottle of peach shnapps and dint put it to the back! we were the only 2 brits as far as we knew there, until halfay through when 2 lads from wolverhampton came,we spoke to them but we all kept to ourselves. you have to go to this part of the island knowing that it is very german and french. balcony rooms have no ceilimng fans but terrace do,we had a balcvony and wanted a fan so were shown on arrival a terrace but the apartment stank of urine so we kept the first option. it was quiet until 2 days into our hol ,when noisy german neighbours arrived slamming doors and shouting at all hours, very rude, and underneath us i got woken at 2 am by laughing and talking .i could have asked for a move but we stayed put. the top pool was closed one day i think they had health and safety in as filled pool up and cleaned it,the day before i got in jaquizzi and got straught out it was filthy!so that was cleaned as well but wasnt right in my opinion as not deck level and no hand rail,i slipped on floor and grazed my knee getting out!
on the whole i think the hotel is a good 3 star its nice to be able eat at tapas bar on beach when visiting beach as its a good 15 min walk away. we always found the sea warm and beach very clean, top ened a bit rocky but further along beautiful sandy beach lovely clear waters.
we love fueteventura but will be going correlejo next time,or el cotillo as we prefer relaxed hols
.oh and i had to pump wine several times in restaurant as dead flies shot out, another reviewer mentioned this ,i didnt notice last year but it was most times this time. also beds are very hard. i didnt get much sleep.
hope this review helps

Stayed here for two weeks early August 13, and had a great time. Rooms were a good size and were cleaned thoroughly five days out of seven. We used both pools, but preferred the atmosphere round the outdoor pool. (If you want peace and quiet, head to the covered pool!). There were only a couple of English families there at the same time as us, with the other residents being French / German. This wasn't a huge problem though, as even with my limited French and German we managed to communicate OK. Our children had a great time in the pools and have gained a couple of pen pals. The language barrier didn't seem to be a problem for them! They were a bit too old for the kids club but it looked well run and the kids that did go seemed to be enjoying it.

The staff in this Hotel were brilliant. Bar and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. Tables were cleared quickly and nothing was too much bother. The 'animation' staff worked their butts off to keep everyone entertained both day and night, and to their credit they all spoke English, Spanish, French and German. We never felt 'excluded' from any of the activities. The shows in the evening were great for families - again they were presented in French, German and English so we could all enjoy them. The food was good - there were many dishes to choose from every day so even the fussiest eaters will be OK. The only let down was the deserts - great for kids (ice cream, Angel delight type stuff etc) but not very varied.

We had a couple of walks into town and to the beach. The kids enjoyed snorkelling in the clear waters and did some jet skiing. The resort is very quiet so if you want a 'happening' place this isn't it. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed our stay at the Royal Suite Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room - it's quite stuffy at night in the living room part (where the sofa...

My wife and I (both holders of a senior railcard) returned to the Royal Suite last month having enjoyed a great break there last year. The staff were very good all round. The food is acceptable if unexciting. The TV features only CNN and the BBC World Service in English - we take DVDs and the laptop! The 'animation' entertainment is never an issue for us - is just isn't for us. The rooms were large and ideal for us with a large bedroom and a larger sitting room with two sofas, table and the TV. Although we were the only two native English speakers on site, we never had any problems or issues - the staff speak sufficient English to meet our needs and we never saw a towel on a sunbed on any morning in our 11 days! The hotel was at most a third full when we arrived so there was a very relaxed feel to the place although it did fill quickly as the holiday went on. We had an issue with one staff member which is described below for those interested.

The only visible difference to the infrastructure was an improvement to the 'quiet' area pool at the furthest part of the site. The pool had been 'covered' with a greenhouse type structure which ensured that the water temperature was perfect and the size made it ideal for length swimming - my one form of exercise for the trip. We planned to do nothing except relax and read and this area being designated as 'quiet' was therefore ideal. Initially we were the only users but one or two other couples did come along and so did some families with small children - but everyone respected the 'quiet' theme for the area. And then Isham, one of the sports animation team decided to use the grassed area nearby for his exercise classes with several young female French guests. After the session had been completed I asked him to turn down what was excessively loud music. He quite simply replied "No". I pointed out that it was a designated quiet area and while I recognized he may want music for his class, the class was over and would he please turn it down. Again he just said "No". I asked why and he said "Because the French guests want to loud music". I discussed this occurrence with the manager who apologised profusely and agreed with my observation that it was rude, arrogant but above all, unprofessional. Isham (who incidentally was French) subsequently apologised to my wife but blanked me whenever our paths crossed! My complaint had nothing to do with his nationality (I am of French descent) but with his lack of professionalism. Although this was a minor annoyance it was eased when other guests simply went up to the music box and turned it off as quickly as he turned it on!

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider making a further return - in the hope that Isham has gone on his way by then!

I'll try to resume the nightmare it was:

- Far from the airport

- Unfriendly, unhepfull (reception) and sad (restaurant) staff (The only really nice one was a Portuguese lady from Oporto working in the kitchen that gave us food the night we arrived and we're starving - we have a 4 year old - and they gave us bread, a tomato and a slice of cheese.

- Cereal at breakfast had bugs on it every morning

- Food was poor to say the least

- Pools we're too dirty to get in

- No AC

- Way too far from the beach (15 minutes walk minimum)

- Had a cricket invasion in our room (and when I say invasion I mean like we killed hundreds of them that night !)

Sorry, nothing good to say... Had to change hotels and pay extra, could only stand it for 2 nights...

We stayed at this 3 star resort for 5 nights. It's an unimpressive all-inclusive. The food was served buffet style and of poor quality, our first room was infested with ants so we changed rooms, and the pools were always dirty. The hotel is a 15 min walk from the beach where we spent most of our time because we did not want to be around this deplorable place. The exterior lights and playgrounds needed maintenance. The bar was self-serve meaning there were just bottles of alcohol and fountain drinks sitting on the bar so you mix it yourself.

Hotel & it's grounds are very spacious, set out in lovely gardens. Room was very spacious with no air con. Wifi access was 3euros a day via your room or 1euro for 10 mins at reception. 2 pool areas, 1 was heated & under cover. Bar by main pool was self service with all you could ask for at your disposal; tea, coffee etc from a machine & a vast array of alcoholic & soft drinks. Food was ok, though quite basic with not much variety. I was the only english speaking person there (German hotel & German resort), but the staff were all very welcoming & all spoke to me once they realised I was alone & only spoke English. Entertainment was dire & aimed at a german audience. Costa Calma appears to have mostly German tourists & caters for there needs. The hotel is 10 mins from the beach & Costa Calma is very hilly so be prepared for walking. But the walks along the beach are beautiful & the chipmunks that await the tourists on the rocks along the beach are very cute & will eat out of your hands. Another point to note is that the beaches are naturist, so be prepared for lots of nude sunbathers.
