“Decent hotel in a decent location”
Reviewed 1 September 2011

We have just returned from a two week holiday staying at this hotel. We found the hotel to be very clean, well maintained and with lovely landscapes. We had booked a family room and was not disappointed. The family room consisted of : - A room with two single beds for the children with a private balcony, tv and mini fridge, a further bedroom with a very large double bed, flat screen tv and seperate balcony, and a large bathroom with a spa bath, twin sinks, toilet, bidet and large shower, our room was situated on the 4th floor and we had fantastic sea views from both balconies.
We appreciate that when holidaying during August it is one of the busiests months, but that said, the pool was never "heaving" and we could always get a table easily during meal times.
The hotel was fairly strict about reserving sunbeds. If towels were left on sunbeds too early (before 9am) the towels were removed and left on the nearest table. We could go down to the pool about 8:30 - 9:00 0'clock in the morning with the children and have a good choice of sunbeds.
As previous people have stated, English holiday makers are the minority. The hotel does seem to cater for the Spanish and German holidaymaker and this is often reflected with the entertainment and the childrens animation team.
Unlike previous holidays we were not able to book a late check out on our room but we were able to book a slot in a courtesy room to freshen up before we left the hotel.
The hotel is very large and it takes a while to work out the floor system...The 3rd floor is in effect the ground floor....this is the floor that you enter from the front of the hotel. Floor 1...is the top floor and floor 9...the bottom floor. There are a lot of stairs inside and out of the hotel but there are many lifts inside the hotel and ramps outside. Overall a nice, clean hotel in a fairly quiet location.

Room Tip: Request a room on floor 1-5 for better views. Floors 7-9 have limited views or garden views only.

Just back from the resort lovely food, pool and location., but far too many rude germans who think that they own the whole hotel, we were told to be quiet and pushed into. We were promised a room to shower in when we checked out so we would fresh for our return journey when I asked for a key I was told to use the spa the spa was closed. Once you check out they don't care. Hotel rep Kelly was excellent. Nice relaxing holiday but need to get up early for a sun bed. A lot of steps to floors if you don't like lifts and to the beach. Our room was for three adults but we had a camp bed pushed in to a double room. A lot of children running around playing hide and seek in the evening.m

We found the hotel to be lovely and clean, the pool was fabulous, the food was very good.
The hotel itself is lovely and there are a number of bars you can choose from to sit around in at night.
The only criticism we had was that the room we were allocated was situated in the 'corner' of the building which meant that we had a seperate balcony but we may as well have been sharing it with the other corner room next door. There was just a small partition of railings which afforded no privacy whatsoever. Tip: When you are allocated your rooms try to ensure that you are not given one in the corners of the building.

Stayed here 9th april for one week. Arrived after midnight and after a speedy checkin were taken to our room with our luggage and then shown the cold buffet laid out for us in the restaurant. Good first impression.

Our room was on the top floor and had fantastic views of the sea and pool. It was very comfortable and had plenty of storage. The public areas of the hotel are impressive and kept very clean.

We thought the choice and quality of food was good and better than a lot of other all inclusive hotels we have stayed in. The drinks were palatable but lacked choice - it wasn't possible to pay to have other drinks but we survived!

On the whole the staff were friendly and cheery and i would recommend to others looking for a relaxing stay. We knew that the hotel was a bit isolated from the resort although you can walk along the beach both ways if you can avoid the wind giving you the "pebble dashed" effect.

We enjoyed our holiday however the location and costa calma itself means that we would only go back if we got a great price

This was a last minute destination for us as the hotel we had booked was closed for refurbishment. (something Thomas Cook didn't tell us) After numerous phone calls and having to pay a late booking fee, (even though they had had our money from Sept. 2010) we finally agreed to go to this hotel.
First impressions were good, reception staff very friendly and efficient and the whole place appeared very clean and modern. Pools, grounds etc. very well cared for in fact the only thing that let it down was the location. It was a little too far away from everything unless you took a bus or a taxi.
All staff were excellent but the lady who served in the bar where the entertainment was held was exceptional. The place is all inclusive and she was on her own most nights I have never seen anyone work more efficiently and still have time to smile.
No compaints about the hotel, just the tour operator! PS watch out for the naturists.

This was our 3rd AlI inclusive holiday and in terms of hotel and food the best. The weather wasn't that great but we still had a fantastic time. We were never bored from the entertainments team during the day to walks along the beach and into the town. Costa Calma is maybe not the best area in Fueteventura, the local shops not that great but we just wanted a relaxing break and that is what we got.
The hotel was lovely, very clean and the staff helpful and friendly. The food was very varied and fresh. In other half board and AI hotels that we have stayed at in the past we tend to find that by day 5 the food is repetitive but not at the R2, there was always something different and of a very good quality.
The evenings were enjoyable, although as the other reviews state geared mainly for German holiday makers but it was still good fun. There was the piano bar which we would often sit in before dinner and enjoy and then after dinner a choice of music and entertainment or just relax in the bar next to the restaurant. Some nights we would go between 3 venues which was excellant especially as you didn't have to venture out of the hotel.
The spa was fairly average but we did indulge in a few massages which were very enjoyable. There is a small gym that my husband used which was basic but good enough for a few days.
We did think about returning in the summer and taking my husbands two teenagers with us but after some consideration we think it might be slightly too quiet an area for them.
We are going to Gran Canaria next January for a change of scene. However, we will definately return to this fabulous hotel in a year or so and would have no hesitation in recommending it to other couples for a relaxing break.
