“Hotel Clean, Well Kept with Good Food”
Reviewed 31 August 2010

We stayed at the Hotel Garbi from the 21st -28th Aug on a half board basis and found the hotel clean and well kept with very good food and service throughout our stay from all the staff. The hotel is next to the beach with beautiful sea views from most rooms; the pool area has both sun and shade depending on your preference.

It is a good idea to check out the Spa and gym early on during your stay as it has a few treatments which might be to your liking and a first visit will be sure to promise another! I encouraged the wife to try her first massage and it turned out to be pleasant surprise - I think she was one of their more nervous customers. The beach stretches for miles and there are lots of things to see and do all the way along, and should you want to travel further afield, buses, taxis and scooter/car hire are readily available. The big night clubs charge higher prices for drinks but we thought the hotel prices acceptable compared to recent holidays in Italy and France. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to a friend and would be delighted to return on another occasion.

The hotel is situated in Playa den Bossa and is ten minutes from the airport costing 10-12 Euros in a taxi. The aircraft flight path is on view along the beach, but don’t let this put you off - we visited lots of the Island and didn’t find a better location to base our stay.

Top Tips

The half board option is a better choice in Playa den Bossa as nearby food options aren’t great.

Formentera is only 30 minutes away by boat - we used the jet which is dearer but has more daily crossings and probably wobbles less than the smaller boats; it is worth a visit. If you are confident on a bicycle or moped - you can visit more remote areas, otherwise stick to the main sites and use the local tour bus. (Walking is not an option). Es Pujols is a superb shallow cove.

A visit to SPACE night club – ‘Mondays Calling’ is free before 12pm with a wrist band available from the amazing area near Bora Bora. It gets busy - but even for the over 40/50’s its worth a visit - there were a few of us there! Look out for other discount options in this area if you are on a clubbing tour as entry prices can be costly.

The hotel does provide a safe deposit box option and this is worth considering.

Watch your wallet - I had a professional thief open a buttoned down short pocket whilst queuing for a bus as another tried to steal from another holiday maker at the crowded bus stop at Santa Eularia. I thought I was invincible, but was still a bit surprised when I realised I needed to take action.

It was really tough trying to find a nice hotel in Playa d'en Bossa and we were abit doubtful of Garbi after reading conflicting reviews on TA. But you know what, it was a really good hotel! Rooms were oversized and even included a couch & desk, 2 wardrobes and a large bathroom, most of the common areas were kept spotless, the hallways were a bit tired looking but what do you expect with people coming and going all the time. The pool and restaurant area was fantastic, little bit tough at times to get a pool lounger but in about 30mins you should be able to get one. Location of the hotel is perfect, with lots of supermarkets close by, resturants and fast food and Space and Bora Bora just down the road. As an added bonus, we purchased our club tickets from the front desk, unfortunatly one night i was sick we didnt go to Space, the next morning my fiance went down to explain the situation and they refunded our tickets! Cant comment on breakfast as we slept through it every morning.

My partner and I have just come back from 5 nights at the Garbi and we would highly recommend it. We've visited Ibiza a couple of times before, previously staying at the Jet Apartments which are slightly further down the beach, near Bora Bora. The Garbi is head and shoulders above the Jet, though. The things we particularly liked about it were as follows:

* FREE private parking; just swipe your room key to unlock the car park. In Playa d'en Bossa, parking can be a little difficult and this made things much easier.

* The hotel is kept in a good state of repair and very clean. The A/C in our room broke down and was fixed within 30 mins of us reporting it.

* Rooms are spacious with generous storage space and beds. If you can afford the extra, go for a sea-view, it's worth it.

* The A/C was superb in our room - almost glacial when set to maximum - essential if you're visiting in July/August when Ibiza is roasting.

* There are x2 restaurants on site; one directly facing the beach and one inside the hotel. Both are good; the restaurant on the beach is better by virtue of it's location - you can enjoy a meal or drinks and enjoy the view. I have high standards for food and found the beach restaurant to be good; the grilled squid and the goats cheese salad were both excellent.

* There's x1 large pool, x1 smaller one and lots of sun loungers.

* Most importantly for us; the hotel rooms are QUIET! Sound insulation is good; even if your neighbors are going ape at 3am, you can get a good nights rest. The hotel is also sufficiently far away from Bora-Bora (which can get very noisy) that you can enjoy the beach in front of the Garbi without being forced to listen to the music emanating from Bora-Bora beach bar.

* The strip (Avenue de Pere Matutes Noguera) that the Hotel Garbi is located on in Playa d'en Bossa has a taxi rank immediately opposite the hotel, plus a few supermarkets and the usual tourist amenities. There are at least x3 car hire places within 10 mins walk along the Avenue; we used BK Rentacar which is about 10 mins walk along the strip towards ibiza town.

* If you want to go to Space, it's about 10 mins walk along the beach from the Garbi; no taxi needed.

* For those catching late flights, you can leave your luggage in a special room and continue to use the hotel amenities like the pool/restaurants for the rest of the day. There is a shower room down some steps, next to the pool - you can get free towels from reception and use the shower to freshen up before you leave for your flight.

A few things to be aware of:

* Ibiza town is about 50 mins walk along the strip from the Garbi; too far to walk in the heat. Taxis to the town are about 10 euros, rounding up.

* The staff in the hotel were helpful; everyone at reception and the restaurant understood English, but some were more helpful/friendly than others. We took this as "tourist fatigue" - once you've worked out who is most helpful at reception, make a bee-line for them.

* Service in the beach restaurant is relaxed (a Londoner like me would call it slow!). The worst possible thing you can do it get grumpy; remember you're in Spain and things are just done differently.

* Breakfast is continental-style and a little basic, but perfectly acceptable.

The perfect place to chill out in a busy location !

We thought the hotel was very clean and spacious! The staff were very friendly indeed and helped in every way !

We loved the pool area and the chill bar area that looked over the sea . The menu was great and the service from the waiters was outstanding !

Don't be put off that the hotel is in Playa den Bossa as the hotel is not noisy and is suited to families or children. However the nightlife is on your doorstep if you need it (but if you are coming to Ibiza you are probably more than aware that it is a nightlife destination )

My two complaints are the orange juice at breakfast was horrible ! and breakfast time was slighly manic . I am not a fan of queuing at a coffee machine when I have just woken up ! also the wifi in the bedroom was temperamental and we had to consistantly telephone reception to get them to reset the router !

All in all we loved our stay here and would stay there again .

We have just returned from a week stay (7th Aug- 14th Aug) on half board at Hotel Garbi. We visit Ibiza every year and we were very very happy with this hotel. Hotel is spotless all over, large well-designed rooms, lovely bathrooms with power shower and we had a nice view over the pool and sea front. The breakfast and dinner every evening was of great standard. We were very impressed with all the staff we met from the man that welcomed us into the restaurant everyday for breakfast and dinner to the maid that kept our room spotless with fresh towels and toiletries every day. The staff at reception were most helpful when needed. We had to call a doctor and they had one up to the room in 15 mins. I also had printed some flight tickets and the reception had them done in two mins. There is free wi fi in the bedrooms, which in this day and age is a necessity, and something I feel was a very good perk to staying at the Garbi. The spa was glorious! When we had enough sun we wandered down to the spa and it was always very quite with only a few guests there at any one time. Also I have to say the facilities for when you check out are very good. They have a secure baggage room the same as every other hotel but they also have lovely showers and lockers in the bathroom for when you want to freshen up before your flight. They give you fresh towels and toiletries at reception so you don’t have to go digging in your suitcase if you don’t want to!! I think the Garbi was an excellent choice for the money we paid. If I had to give any criticisms it would be 1. They should put a mirror above the dressing table in the bedrooms. There is one in the hall and bathroom but personally I like to sit when doing my make up and hair and that would have been nice. 2. The day we checked out we had a long wait to our nighttime flight. Our I pod and laptop batteries were low on power but there were no power points near any of the lounge areas. They have lamps wired into the floor and I think they should definitely put a few power points around the place for guests to use. All guests now travel with electronics and often a place to charge up is very handy. The restaurant at the poolside and beach is very handy albeit a bit slow with their service. You would not want to be in too much of a rush!! I was a bit annoyed one of the last days of our stay. We sat down at a table and one of the waiters came over to tell me the table was reserved even though there was no sign or anything to distinguish it from the other tables in the area. I said straight away that we will move to another table but he just stalked off so we stayed put, as we weren’t directed to a table that was free. I didn’t get up a move to another table in case that was reserved also. Thankfully this was the only rude encounter I had in my week stay and it was very mild. It wouldn’t put me off going to the hotel but we didn’t eat at the poolside restaurant again. The prices are average and you expect to be treated kindly as a paying customer.
All in all I will definitely be returning to the Hotel Garbi. We had a great time.

Large hotel. Rooms clean and well appointed. Pool area and beach frontage great to chill after a big night out. Staff helpful and professional. Third time to Ibiza and by far the best value for money. Restaurant on the beach front is questionable due to the chaotic service. Will not hesitate to book this place next time. One tip regarding getting around the island form Den Bossa, DO NOT rely on busses or taxis to get to the clubs at peak time 12-2AM. You can wait 2-3 hours at a time so go early.

Upon our arrival at the hotel we were allocated a room ,we were not happy with that room as the view from the balcony was not the best, I returned to the reception and explained i did not like the view fro the room and asked for another, after a wait another room was found and it was great. At this point I will point out I was being very choosy about the room because since booking in March and paying 150 euros per night , after checking the Hotel web site prior to the holiday the rooms were now 100 euros per night,so it did not pay to book in advance, however, I did not find out for sure whether rooms were available at that price ,so please check all options prior to booking to get the best price.
The Hotel is situated right on Playa d`en Bossa beach ,which we found to be clean and very pleasant. The entrance is situated on the street which is not the best, tacky shops and fast food ,this was not a problem for us as we had hired a car so when we left the hotel we left the area ,so did not frequent this part of Playa d`en Bossa.
Ibiza town is about 15 mins away by car, airport about the same.
Our stay at the hotel was without problems, the room was cleaned daily ,the public areas kept immaculate. We were half board, breakfast, evening meal, the breakfast was excellent, pretty much everything you could want ,the evening dinner was adequet but it was not a dinner experience more just a means to a end, mainly due to the "canteen" style decor, this suited us no problem,we like to eat early ,usually straight from the beach then go for a siesta,I would say that the restaurant was immaculate at all times and the food always looked and tasted fresh, the staff very pleasant.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Garbi, the location suited us,we did have a car though, the room was comfortable and clean ,the food very acceptable. I would not recommend this hotel for families ,we, however will be going back!!
