5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2011

We were visiting a sick relative in Waihi so the trip was not really a holiday. However The Falls Retreat made it as good as it could have been. I booked the Rose Cottage on Wotif after reading the good reviews on TripAdvisor. But they didn't prepare me for just how gorgeous the area is & how perfect the cottage is. It is decorated in such a lovely & homely way. We loved the very cute & comfy bedroom upstairs (the linen smelt so nice!) & the fireplace downstairs. & then there were all the little extra things eg. the rose on the table, the pinecones & kindling for the fire, the great selection of dvds & books. Booking on Wotif included a cooked breakfast (bacon & eggs) delivered to our door. The waterfalls right nearby are breathtaking. If you happen to pass through Waihi, this is definitely the place to stay. Thank you Emma!!

Room Tip: Book on Wotif (cooked breakfast included)

Awesome place for a quiet get away. Very lovely location. Sitting in the gazebo overlooking the waterfalls is amazing. The cottage is clean, comfortable and well stocked with all you need. The hostess is friendly and helpful. We had ordered a cooked dinner for our first night and that was delivered to the cottage. From starters to dessert it was restaurant quality and reasonably priced. The homemade bread was delicious and we were thrilled to receive another one fresh from the oven when the first one was finished. We look forward to following future 'developments' for the plans for the property as well as the family expansions. Thanks Emma we wish you and your family richest of blessings for the future.

Room Tip: Both cottages are clean and comfortable,

We stayed in Fig Tree Cottage (one of two cottages available) and just loved it. The property was a charming little romantic cottage in the woods surrounded by bird and trees and opposite a really pretty waterfall which you could hear from the cottage. The cottage was well appointed with a cute little fire which we lit and we arrived to the smell of fresh bread in the cottage for our (included) breakfast the next morning. Lots of lovely little touches all around the cottage...you really just need to go there to see it for yourself. Lovely hosts too.
I would love to go back, and would recommend to anyone I knew. Really wish we could have stayed longer!

Such a sweet place to stay! We were a family group ranging from 6 years old to 75 years old and we ALL loved this place. The location and views are incredible. We sat in the back gazebo and watched the waterfalls and sunset while the kids climbed in the trees. We had a lot of privacy and felt so relaxed. We had made arrangements for our dinners to be made family-style, and they were very tasty! The walks to Gorge are within minutes. Great location, fabulous property & rooms, superior service.

We arrived tired after a long car journey with kids to freshly baked bread, a wood fire and the sound of birds in the trees. This retreat is beautiful, clean and lovingly decorated with items straight out of NZ House & Garden's pages. Plenty to do in the cottage with books, DVDs and kitchen facilities surrounded by lovely gardens and near waterfalls. We didn't stay long enough to see the surrounding location but it was perfect as our stopover back to Auckland. The owners were so helpful and left us some toys and a highchair for our children too. Will stay longer next time!
