Description: The Estate is in the heart of the Karangahake Gorge. It is only 200 meters from the tunnel portal of the main walking/cycle trail and has its own access from there. It could not be easier. The Karangahake end of the Gorge offers fantastic tracks, many of them loops of differing lengths. There is a huge amount of history and scenic attraction in the area and the winery and restaurant are a well-deserved treat. Karyn, the chef, prepares wonderful gourmet food, which complements Horst's lovely range of wines. The summer garden setting is relaxed and peaceful and a wonderful interlude between walking or biking. In winter there is an open fire. Platters, full or light meals are available

We were on our way back to Auckland and decided to have lunch here. We were surprised with the very nice staff, good wines and good food, though a bit expensive. Try to get a sit outside especially if it is sunny. The platter was more than enough for 2 with a selection of tasteful dips, good cheese and a delicious pork belly.

After completing a lovely walk we enjoyed a beautiful smoked meat platter and a bottle of wine. The service was great, the food was great and the atmosphere was relaxing (the slightly overweight lab was a great addition!)

Stopped here after doing 6km of the Karangahake rail trail and we were pleasantly surprised. Chowder packed with seafood, chicken pot pie overflowing with tender chicken. Our table of 12 all had food envy each time a dish came out although we thoroughly enjoyed what we had ordered.
Although the grapes aren't grown at the winery they have picked their contract growing regions well and produce some lovely wines. The chardonnay in particular was great.
Would love to return again in the summer

Compared to many other wineries we've visited the food what poor quality and over priced. what a shame after seeing all these other reviews..... the service from the owner was such a shame as the lady working the tables really tried to do her best to keep him away and from ruining everything. guess he was having a bad day/week. We wont be seeing if its any better next time. there are some many other places to visit next time.

After a walk through the gorge with its spectacular scenery and tunnels, we took the track up to the Ohinemuri winery and cafe. We were greeted with a question 'had we booked' - no we hadn't but we were shown to a table and it soon became apparent why a booking would be advisable as the tables quickly filled. A real mixture of people too from a birthday celebration, to others who had been walking and some just enjoying the ambience and open fire. How many places these days can you sit by an open fire although i guess that table wold be booked with a special request. The food was hearty and tasty with a good range of wines to accompany it.
Altogether a happy weekend experience.
The summer would be lovely too sitting outside and enjoying the bird calls and fresh air.
