If you are travelling through Waihi, you must stop off at Banana Pepper and enjoy their delicious selection of sweet and savoury treats, as well as the great quality coffee! The staff are all fantastic and make you feel right at home.

Recommended by the staff at our motel, and we could quickly see why when we arrived. It was busy and had a good atmosphere with old style décor. Staff were all smiling which for me goes a long way. Food was nice and worth the money. If I was a local I would come here all the time.

This cafe has a wide selection of food which is presented well and tastes great. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. They get amongst community events which is always great to see in a small town.

A really character cafe furnished in the 1970’s Formica and chrome furniture with touches of retro orange. But it does not stop there as the interior decor and the food reflects shades of the past. Add a modern all day brunch menu and super coffee to old favourites like meat pies, sandwiches and hamburgers with chips and you have the Banana Pepper Cafe.

The food is all fresh, taste, abundant selection and well priced, while the coffee is superb being full of flavour and hot! The menu items like the Hamburger with chips was great value and very generous. And the fruit tarts are all that reviewers have raved on about – exceptional!

Where the Banana Pepper Cafe falls down is in the area of the little almost zero cost niceties like sauce or chutney with pies (they look a bit lonely on a plate!) and a squirt of cream or yogurt on their tarts.

The other area is service. We cleared the dirty plates from a table and they were place on an unoccupied central table along with plates from other tables; staff walked by but they remained there for the whole of our lunch; not a good sign.

So OK - the food is GREAT, the cafe busy and popular; but let down by little things.
