“Arona Gran”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

Reception Book In- Efficient and easy with a welcome drink and assistance of luggage to room if required.
Room safe-15 euros a week with no refund.
Room-Ours was on 6th Floor with excellent view of Sea,it consists of two single beds with flat screen tv with uk TV channels including BBC,ITV WALES AND WEST,CHANNEL 4 and numerous others. The bathroom consists of shower over bath,no problems with hot water, plenty of towels and Hair Dryer.
A small fridge supplied with drinks, this is checked every day to see if any items have been used(Dates of items are checked) and if used are added to your bill.
No money is used in Hotel as your key card is also your hotel debit card which is used when you order anything at the bar or any pool meals you may consume. At the end of the week you pay your bill at reception.(It is worth ordering a spring Hotel Card prior to taking your holiday as this entitles you to 15% off your total bill).
There are two sister Hotels in Playa Las Americas-The Bitacora and The Vulcano, you can use your Spring discount card at these hotels if you decide to visit and partake of drinks and food, but have to pay up front where they will discount the 15%.
The pools at the Arona Gran are fantastic, both Heated to 30 and 29 degrees, there are plenty of Sun beds and there is a strict policy on leaving towels on beds, this is checked regularly by the lifeguard and towels are removed after about 45 mins.
Pool towels are supplied and can be changed everyday.
There is a secure gate to the walkway which leads to the beach area in Los christianos and can be accessed by your hotel key card. The walk to the nearest sandy beach will take approximately 15 minutes which is the marina beach and another 10 minutes to the main beach, both sandy and level.(The one outside the beach is very rocky).
The market which is supposed to be the biggest one on the island and takes place very Sunday is right outside the hotel.
Entertainment is a mixture of tribute acts, dance acts, clowns and dancers so their should be something for every one, there is also dancing before and after the entertainment with a resident trio.
There is a pianist also playing in one of the other bars outside the entertainment room.
Breakfast is what you expect of half board holidays, except the bacon is uk type bacon(not the streaky bacon in some hotels)there are also the usual cereals, fruits, toast, cakes omelettes, pancakes etc.
I personally found the fruit juices very weak and they appeared to be watered down.
Evening meals I thought were excellent and you will be hard pressed not to find something you like, the variety is exceptional and on two of the themed nights there is even a chocolate fountain.
To use the local buses its best to buy a Bono card which cost either 12 or 15 euros and when you put the ticket in the machines the price of the journey is deducted 1.15 euros one way to las Americas.
For those of you with walking difficulties it's approximately 10 to 15 minutes to the Bus Station with a slight gradient.
Overall we enjoyed the hotel and its facilities, but it is a very quiet area-very few shops.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floor for quiet room with excellent view.

Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant - just back from another visit in May and this place just gets better. The rooms have had a re-furb update and staff are still extremely attentive. My suitcase handle was broken on the flight over and their handyman came to our room and fixed it - what more can you ask for. Love the fact now that people cannot leave towels on sun loungers all day and go shopping - well done management to finally have it implemented and the pool lifeguards and sticking to it. Entertainment has stepped up also - obviously the new entertainments team have got that right too. Having gone here for the last 8 years, several times a year - its about time now that Spring Hotels made it for Adults only or for over 50s only - which would be a dream. Back again soon. ps don't quite understand the previous write-up from Invanessa about the food - did you not read all the previous trip advisors?? its wonderful and all staff in the kitchen and dining room deserve a medal in their preparation, display and cleanliness - and their wages are probably much lower than in the UK - so stop griping or go somewhere else.

Just returned from a week at this fantastic place. Everything we expected from a very highly rated hotel. The Room was clean to a very high standard and the staff were extremely pleasant and polite. We arrived on the 7th of June around 9.30pm and were told to go and grab some food from the Restaurant which we did. The food from that point on was delicious, well presented and fresh. The people who complain on here about the food must be mad! Fresh salads everyday, selections of cheeses and meats. Fresh fish and meats cooked right infront of you, fresh veg every night, lasagne, paella and roast beef, pork etc. Breakfast was always busy but the food was constantly refreshed and there is plenty of room to move around. We found that the half board option was perfect because after a proper breakfast lunch wasnt an issue. We felt very comfortable around the poolside and contrary to an earlier comment fron Vanessa the hotel issue towels but you have to ask at reception, you are then issued a ticket which you hand to the "pool attendant" they can be changed by the pool providing you take damp ones back. We were so pleased with our stay that we are already looking to book again for next year. You can't go wrong with this hotel its amazing!!

Just back after two weeks at the Arona. Booked with Thompson, flights were a nightmare, dozens of screaming kids! As Thompson no longer have any form of flight entertainment it was so boring!! If your book direct with the Arona you get all the extras free, safe, kettle, etc., however if you go with Thompson you have to pay 15 euros per week for the safe & 5 euros per day for a kettle. The hotel foyers were very clean but the room left much to be desired, during the 2 weeks the pool area was never swept or hosed down, much rubbish left around. Plenty of sunbeds & parasols, management removed towels from beds if put there before 9.00am,well done!!Food was plentiful but very repetitious and luke warm. The majority of clients were 60+ and had been there several times before. Not much laid on during the day except aqua gym, darts, etc. Some young people there but they were very much out of place. The rooms are outdated and need refurbishing, does not warrant a 5* rating more like 3*. Had side sea view room, you do not get sun on balcony, and we had to move because kitchen extractors were directly underneath so cooking smells galore! Hotel wanted £235 to upgrade to pool/sea view.Hotel staff very good as were the Thompson reps. Evening entertainment was mediocre.Los Cristianos is very run down compared to 5 years ago, lots of shops, bars etc. now closed, very scruffy.

Room Tip: We book junior suite each time(10 tines to date) and do it directly with hotel on internet.gives ex...

Last summer we went to Tenerife to stay in this hotel, clean room but the food is terrible. I think it is not what I expected from a 4 stars rating hotel. The hotel really needs a good renovation and it looks old. It is hard to tell from the website and I am very disappointed .And also I think we stay there for almost 2 weeks and the food is the same everyday. We have to go out to eat most of the time. The deck chairs on the pool were dirty and they did not even provide you with towels at the pool. After staying in most 4 stars hotels , I think it is really terrible for a 4 stars rating hotel to provide a 3 stars service.

If you're looking for the best time to be spoiled, please book this hotel. Great buffets (awarded several times). Beautiful rooms with sea views. Room was cleaned every day. Staff very friendly. Entertainment for every one (Opera, Flamenco, Tribute bands, comedians etc). Easy listening music at the pool bar. Fresh and various food buffets every day !! Special dessert buffet was splendid.

Room Tip: Room with sea view !!!
