“booked again for next year”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2010

we stayed at the villa mandi in June for two weeks. everything went above our expectations. the room was clean spacious with a lovely view over the park and golf course they were cleaned everyday and the reception staff were always very helpful. the pools were clean and the children felt safe around them although the tiles can get very slippy! The Thomson team on site were the best we have experienced in over twenty holidays abroad and made everyone feel welcome and at ease and if you didn't want to get involved in the all day entertainment they left you alone to relax. the location was perfect for us and the walk into either America's or los cristianos was lovely. we never used the onsite supermarket as it was so expensive and the hyper trebol was only a ten min walk away. two places we loved to eat were the olive garden and balu restaurant and bar the prices were very reasonable and the staff were very good. we have already booked for june again next year kids cant wait!

Lovely resort, very clean and well maintained.Appartment spacious, clean and well equipped.Supermarket well stocked and great for fresh croissants every morning.Taxis cheap and prompt for getting to bus station and other resorts. Thomson reps helpful. Staff at resort very polite. A shop in costa adeje gave us some flowers and the jug I put them in was replaced with a vase by the cleaner. If you are eating out in los cristianos go to Chill Out. Would go again.

Getting to know your way round if you've never been can be quite trying at first especially as this hotel is just a little bit out of it but taxi's are cheap enough, 5euros anyhere between Los Cristianos and Las Americas. There is a supermarket on site which is handy but a little more expensive than the ones in town. We booked this holiday last minute and I was unsure of what to expect but for the price we paid it was excellent value for money. The pictures in the Thomson brochure do not do this hotel justice visit Villa Mandi's website for a better look. The cleaners come everyday, change your towels and your bedding and thoroughly clean the apartment. I would say this hotel is suitable for couples but mostly suited to families, the Thomson evening entertainment reflects this. The Thomson reps were great, always on site and happy to help with any issues. The food at the hotel is not great so we would recommend Central Zafari and surrounding areas for a great choice of resturants in a lovely setting. Las Americas is what it is great for a few drinks and there is loads of bars etc. Visit the Monkey Park it is AMAZING and only 10euros per adult. A great holiday!

We (me, my girlfriend and 3 kids aged 6,4 and 3) at Villa Mandi for a week at the end of August. The accommodation was great - we had a 2 bed apartment which was very spacious. The kids shared a room upstairs (together with bathroom), whilst downstairs we had a large bedroom, bathroom and good sized kitchen/lounge area which had patio doors out to a good size balcony - tons of space and much bigger than holiday apartments we have stayed in before. Despite the literature saying that the maids had the day off on Thursday, our apartment was thoroughly cleaned every day! The kitchen facilities were adequate at best - 2 rings (which did work well to be fair!) and a microwave, but no oven which was a bit of a shame for a self-catering facility. We cooked an easy chicken pasta dish one evening but you would struggle to do much more!
Although we were there during the last week of the UK school holidays, and the resort was still therefore pretty full, it was quiet during the evenings and neither the kids nor us were disturbed during the night!
The rest of the resort was maintained spotlessly - every morning the sunloungers were all stacked up whilst the areas around the pools were cleaned, and all the pathways and borders were immaculately maintained (they even use disinfectant on the pathways).
One of the few issues were that the areas round the swimming pools were very slippery - the kids all fell over several times even when they were walking around.
The evening entertainment for the kids was great, and all 3 thoroughly enjoyed it. We did not use the kids club in the day, but from what we heard it was very good.
Location-wise, the Villa Mandi is slightly off the beaten track but we had a car (we had booked flights and accommodation separately, so had airport transfers to deal with, and we had also booked to go to Loro Parque in the north of the island, so made good use of it). This allowed easy access to Los Cristianos/Las Americas in the evening as well as to the beach - too far to walk with young kids. We would recommend anyone getting a car - we hired a Citroen Xsara Picasso for £135 through Auto Europe. There was plenty of on-street parking just outside the resort.
The rest of the facilities were good. I see people moaning about the price of items in the local supermarket and yes it was more expensive than other supermarkets, but it is on your doorstep! And if you have a car then you can go and get stuff elsewhere!
Overall, a great place to stay and we would thoroughly recommend it!

My husband and I stayed at the Villa Mandi Hotel between 28/08/10 and 04/09/10, we had a lovely holiday the staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you, it was a family club extra, but select and felt like you were staying in a large Villa, we were on self catering board but the hotel food was very resonable and good value, so we had our breakfast every day, and five nights evening meal at the Villa.
It is a hotel geared very much to families and the entertainment reflects this, however it is excellent and we both enjoyed it very much, the families we spoke to were very pleased with all the facilities for children, the childrens entertainers, the football academy, and stage school.
Well done Thomson your reps were super, and could not have been more helpful.

If you are looking for a hotel that is in a central location then don't bother to read on. If you can get past that then the Villa Mandi is a lovely clean, exceptionally maintained hotel. It has the feel of a small spanish village with cobbled 'streets' and well designed planting. This is a Thomson Family Club Extra hotel so has all the kids clubs, a creche and a great baby room for getting little ones out of the sun and somewhere to have a bit of time out and watch cbeebies!! The creche staff were fab did a great job of looking after our son.
We had a two bedroom apartment which was on two levels and had plenty of space. The room was pretty basic, the towels were pretty small and the beds a bit hard but not the end of the world.
We were half board and the food although basic was tasty and more importantly the children found something each night they would eat. There was also a selection of plastic cutlery, plates and bowls.
The reps at this hotel really work hard to make sure that everyone is enjoying themselves. As the hotel is reasonably small they get to know the kids and kids love being spoken to by the reps and Thomson the dog of course! Each night they have a crazy disco for the kids which mine loved, even though one can only just walk. The thing that lets it down is the adult evening entertainment or 'acts' they were pretty poor. Being so far out you expect good entertainment, but it was the bog standard flamenco, a comedy act telling jokes from the 80's, and a dodgy acrobatic couple. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and will probabally go back one day.

We stayed between 8th & 23rd August - 2 Adults and 1 Child (8 Yrs) - Thomson Holidays

An Apartment holiday was a first for me in over 20 years, but having read the reviews on here I decided that we would give it a go.

This resort could be so, so much better. It has the potential to be a winderful little place due to its location and value.

*Check In*

Swift check in by night porter as reception closes at 10pm. 20 mins transfer from airport.

Disappointed that although arriving at 11pm no food or snacks were available.

We were allocated room 241 which is located on the ground floor at the top corner road side of the resort.

Situated outside the bedroom are the resorts air conditioning units. These run pipes from outside the room directly under it. As a result the room has a very loud droaning sound all the time.

I immediately complained to reception and asked for a room change. The night porter was unable to help and asked that I return at 8am the following morning.

After a sleepless night I saw the manager who was very helpful and understanding but was unable to do anything till the following day due to full occupancy. He was as good as his word and after a second sleepless night we were allocated a much quieter pool view room.

My advice is if you are allocated 241 then immediately request a move before leaving reception, even email them prior to going to request that you are not given this room.

*Accomodation*

The rooms are tidy, maybe a little tired around the edges but adequate for what they are.

As previously mentioned don't expect anything special from the sofa bed, it is suitable for a youngster, but I wouldn't have wanted to sleep on it for a couple of weeks.

A safe is chargable but minimal cost, which is no real issue.

English channels likewise, unless you want cnbc or Disney. But this is not an issue as who really wants to come to Tenerife and watch Corrie or Eastenders! (Actually scrub that remark, I did see several people watching Eastenders and the X-Factor)

The onsite supermarket is ideal for newspapers and the fresh croissants, but a 5 minute walk takes you to a larger cash & carry type shop. Beer, water and sodas are considerably cheaper than in house.
***SUNBEDS***

With staying here in the height of the school holidays, we expected it to be busy. What shocked us is the way people queued for sun beds. It was so funny and yes in the end we joined to hilarity.
All the beds are stacked on an evening and between 8.15 & 8.30 they are unstacked by staff.
Now around this time & earlier everybody hangs around, towels in hand; standing in the spot where they want their beds.....
As the last bed is laid out, the staff member says morning and gives a thumbs up, then everyone gets their towels on the beds. Whatever you do don't put you towel out early, sit on a sunbed or move an umbrella as it will be removed.
Please understand, this is 95% British hotel so no blaming any other nationalities..

There were days when people did come down around 10am and there were no beds available.. Hence why everyone joins the fun.

Also note, the two pools are small and sunbed space is minimal along with only 35 umbrellas. You are always sat within a couple of inches of the person next to you and a couple of feet front and behind.

**BLOODY MUSIC**

One other thing to be aware of is the music... All day round the pool the music is played very loud, if like me you have an mp3 player expect to have it up at max, or buy some noise cancelling earphones!

It is almost imposible at times to hold a conversation with the person next to you without shouting!!

To be honest I found it very annoying and it spoilt my poolside relaxation.

**Food**

Food... We only had breakfast for the first week in the restaurant, 7e and 3.5 for kids. It was poor to average at best, not great value for money. We then took to buying fresh pastries and juice from the local supermarket.

On an evening we headed into town, following advice from Tripadvisor ate at recommended restaurants. On average for 4 adults and 3 kids we were spending between 80 & 120 euros an evening. We generally ate at the "Safari Shopping Centre", all the restaurants were excellent and food was faultless.

The walk into town is plesant and relaxing 20 mins with 3 kids, easy. I cannot personally undertstand anyone who has an issue with the distance. It broke the evening up and started the evening in the right way. Taxi's there or back were only 5 euros maximum.

**Staff**

Friendly, helpful, no problem at all. Respond to issues quickly and efficiently. Scottish lass behind the bar was good fun and made a quiet evening entertaining.

**Entertainment**

Dear oh dear oh dear... Nuff said!  All bars stop serving at midnight as well.

Kids enjoyed it though started to get bored after the first week. Pool tables and table tennis plus mini golf.
Though if your left handed expect to pay more for a club rental!!
Lots of machines that eat euros for the return of tattoos and stickers and other rubbish.

**FOOTBALL**

The new astro turf pitch is excellent. But it is not open to the public as such, the Reebok football school knows how to fleece its customers!
We pay here in Wakefield, £40 for 4 full days at the local soccer academy during school holidays. Here they charge what I view as an obscene 3 sessions at 2 hours each session £70... The kids love it, but too expensive in my view... It is just a shame that the pitch is not open in between sessions to allow the kids or adults to knock a ball around.

Conclusion.

An average budget family resort. Poolside loud and overcrowded. Food poor. Rooms clean and spacious but a litle tired. Pools small and limited. Staff friendly and helpful. Entertainment, poor. Location, quiet but towns easily accesible. Limited facilities to occupy children after dark.

Won't be returning as better quality out there.

Though if you had chance to go on a last minute deal it would be very good value.

Having read the review from "pullsomestrings" below, I struggled to add anything he or she commented upon.
